That's on Wilder

I thought that was the correct decision. Gilchrist was struggling and we needed to get big Harry on. Soutter and Cooper have got to start now.
I'm not in agreement about pushing him out to RB but agree with the rest. This is why we need a fully fledged RB in the squad

I'm not buying or selling about Wilder at this point, but I think any manager saying his team went off script (if he in fact has said this) is not a good look.

It doesn't matter whether you're managing a team of footballers, or a team of office workers, if you're the manager you need to manage.
When I was a manager (yes before i got very old and recently retired) my Team used to hate me, love me, couldn't give a shite about me and weren't bothered if I died in a ditch etc, but I'll tell you one thing they did as I encouraged them to do! Simples

More upset with the decision to take Ohare and Brooks off and fail to replace them with like for like in Brewster and Rak Sakyi. Bringing on two midfield players and dropping into a 4-5-1 with only Moore up front gave QPR even with 10 men the green light to push up on us. After we concede the second he makes the changes he should have made 5 minutes earlier.

We all know in the Championship we will face more of an aerial threat. If Souttar had started we wouldn't have conceded the first goal. I just can not understand why we persist with JLT marking their tallest player at set pieces. We did it last season and VVD went straight through him for Pool and scored at the Lane. It was an accident waiting to happen but we never addressed it until going 0-1 down when Moore started to pick Dunne up.

As others have said tactically still naive and slow to make changes after our usual no show for the first 15 minutes of the second half. The result highlights our weakness in dealing with set pieces and inconsistent performances over 90 minutes. The drop off in form of Souza and Hamer second half was significant. To-day showed we need to start Cooper and Souttar.

The worrying aspect was at 2-1 down the coaching staff panicked and on the field there was a distinct lack of leadership. Early days yet but we were out thought tactically by the opposition manager yet again. The sooner we address this the better we will be.

I think Roygbiv said it in the chat, but this Wilder is not the same one we used to have when the going was good.

I will use the bouncing day game. We were 2-0 up and they brought a goal back and the tide was going against us so he brings on Duffy and put Bash to the back. Yes they got the equaliser but we managed to get the momentum back.

Today we brought on Soutter for Gilchrist.

We then end up doing Peck and Slimane. I wouldn't bring on Slimane in this type of situation.

They equalise and we bring the palace lad on and Brewster. Feck knows who is playing where.

Moral of the story is the first substitution is the most important.

They came out second half and targeted Burrows and the casm between him and Robinson. Hamer was the worst player on the pitch second half so was a simple switch to shove McCallum on as cover....

If a pissed eejit in the John St Stand could see it, I'm at a loss as to why Wilder couldn't ...

The main problem with the defence is that all oppo teams have to do is get near to us and launch it into the box/6 yard area knowilng that we're not too good in the air. So they score direct from the cross or knockdowns.
Midfield retreats to try and protect the defence. - which gives away two thirds of the pitch at least and no matter who plays us they inevitably look good.
We need a big b*******d at CH.
Step forward Soutar.
Who makes way? Sadly, because I love his attitude, it has to be Robinson. No good enough in the air or in anticipation/positioning. I say sadly because he was the only one who actually seemed to care last year, no room for sentiment in football though.

PS Blaming Wilder is ridiculous - does anyone seriously think anyone else could have persuaded the new players we've got to sign....And he's probably a better manager than all the experts on this site...

Think you can blame Wilder when it's his fuck up without saying he needs to be sacked etc ...

In the same way Burrows and Gilchrist were awful today, but will come good.

Saying someone had a bad game doesn't mean you don't rate them, it just means they had a bad game!

I hope Wilder has learned from today. That second half was absolutely abysmal. Total and utter shit. Amateurish. 2-0 up at half time and Wilder obviously told the players to defend and see the game out - bearing in mind we have a notoriously terrible defence plus a league 2 standard goalkeeper in goal until this Cooper finally steps in.

Posh fans viewed Burrows as a pretty average defender but was shit hot in attacking positions.

Maybe put him at LW and Gus back into midfield?
Maybe play a proper lefty Infront of him (McCallum) and/or tell Robinson to cover him rather than leaving a massive gap... Second half i genuinely thought JLT was doing it on purpose

Reactions: SWB

We were dominated in midfield in the second half and needed some composure just to slow things down and take control of a game, which isn’t what any of our midfielders are particularly good at.

Both full backs struggled as well, we’ve signed two good LWB’s but have now gone to a 4 so that’s going to happen a few times this season.

Wilder needs to drop the obsession with having both a left and right footer at CB, please just play the best defenders which means dropping Robbo for Souttar. Robbo in a 2 with a non-defensive LB is just asking for trouble.

Subs were baffling though as usual and it was just desperate at the end, how on earth did Slimane end up at RB, Brewster as a 10 etc.

I agree with this, the peck & Slimane subs made no sense to me. The Rak Sakyi & Brewster subs were just to get as many attackers on the pitch as possible.

O’Hare stayed on too long, nobody was tracking down the left which doubled up Burrows. They bossed CM we needed another body in there.

Gilchrist was really poor, Burrows wasn’t much better. Hopefully they’re all just getting used to playing together

McCallum, Burrows, or Brooks could have all moved to LCM

We could have moved to a back 3 and had two defensive players covering that side

Either one of these moves should have got us over the line

Souttar should have come on regardless because one area they're strong is set pieces with 6 or 7 players over 6 foot

Yes they did. And it was very effective.

They were playing really well down our left all second half. It's staggering that Burrows stayed on the pitch. He was beaten 1v1 early on, and it just got worse after that, till eventually he missed a header that led to their second.

Sakyi should have come on before they equalised as well because a 3rd goal would have also arguably been useful for us

But, he's a new signing so we must go through the 'process' and only give him 10 mins to begin with, and keep Brooks at RW who again demonstrated how clueless he is in the final third

When will it be Hecky's turn again?
Never wanted Wilder back, but hoped to be proved wrong.
He's signed some very good players, now they need someone who knows how to manage them as a team.
(Was joking about Hecky by the way.)

I thought this season we were going to have players that 'run around a lot'.

Did the players not receive the memo / email / text (delete where applicable) ?

Ohhh here we go again. Of course he’s a better manager than anyone on here. So is Steve Evans and he’s a fat shithouse.

It’s a forum where people give opinions, right or wrong. Last time I checked we didn’t need our coaching badges

Straight from kick off, we attacked them and played on the front foot, quick interchange of passes and pressing high and they couldn’t handle it.
Then we go two up and start playing some negative, possession based Premier League style and slowed the tempo right down which, clearly suited QPR as they soaked up the pressure.

If, as Wilder claims, the players went off script, they did so after about 20 minutes in, which by my reckoning meant that he had 15 minutes of their undivided attention at half time, to fucking tell them to get back on script.

I’m sorry Chris, but the buck stops with you for this one. ☹️

Staying on is one thing, leaving him without cover was just suicidal. Stick McCallum on Infront of him or at least shift Brooks on to that side. Hamer and oHare offered him zero protection....
