Should have made changes 10 minutes into the 2nd half. You could see what they changed and it was working for them, Wilder did nothing. Just stood there watching it unfold and with game changers on the bench, he did fuck all.

Both goals were very avoidable, the second being an absolute gimme but it shouldn't have got to that. As soon as they started the press we panicked, we couldn't handle it so change the fucking set up. Bringing a defender on at home when we're hanging on against QPR was a cowardly move and for all his gob, he neshed making big changes early in the game and fucked us over.

We've got the players, fucking use them.

Couldn’t agree more. QPR changed it up and Wilder watched them do it. Kept the same players when we were crying out for a change.

This is where Wilder worries me. No plan B. They switched tactics and it killed us. Wilder had no answer.
 
Didn’t want him back, but he has won me round so far this season…… until 2nd half

Everyone could see it coming, changes should have been made after their 1st goal

He reminded me of Hecky, just fatter, stood there seemingly no idea how to change the course of the game despite having a bench that would walk into QPRs starting line up

As good as we were 1st half, we were wank 2nd, and he needs to sort it out or crowd will turn, we took it last season, won’t this
 
You say it was cowardly Maurice Maurice but I wasn't against bringing Souttar on. The same old failings when the ball goes into our box were there for all to see.

This year we won't be conceding 100 goals because the players we're up against don't have the same ability, but it's still going to cost us time and time again until Wilder gets a grip and can find or manage a defence that can actually deal with a cross.

Obviously we didn't merit a win from that game, it seemed too easy after a quarter of an hour and the slippers were out. Then, when you need it, you can't regain your level.

What this will do (well, should do) is change the starting line up.
 
What clown puts Anel at RB??? An what clown thinks he could be a RB?? Is wilder now taking advice from Jimmy talk bollox ramble an his favva?

I've got to say I don't think that was an enjoyable watch too slow build up play sideways backwards back again, QPR were the better side imo

Why do we have to defend wilder? I know some of you can't wait to jump on every mistake, but JRS could have easily won it for us late on too.
I completely agree with him taking Gilchrist off and putting Souttar an by the way.

I'll be honest and say that I really like Souttar and hope he becomes a first team regular. I get shoring the defence up as well as they had 3 strikers all over 6' tall.

What I didn't like was the way we couldn't handle the press, as soon as they got in our face we panicked. The defence couldn't get the ball out quick enough, the midfield disappeared and it was pretty obvious to a layman like me what would happen. We had players available who could and should have changed that, but the worrying thing for me is that this happens a lot on Wilders watch. He comes across as a bit of a bully, all in your face when it's working but when it doesn't, he's bereft of ideas.
 
Fine margins in all of this.

We deal with a ball at 2-1 and see the game out and everyone thinks it’s lucky win but one we can learn some lessons from and we move on Pleased with the first 25 mins of attacking play. Positive with a mostly new side and formation bedding in (with a top attacker and GK to come in)

We do need to learn to defend better though - we’ve been porous for far too long.

100% this, after 15 mins we'd hardly strung 2 passes together, it reminded me of Southgate how he left it, then went defensive then chucking a forward on in 89th minute, what was he thinking?? 🤔

It does feel a bit 'eggs in one basket' banking on Moore alone up top doesn't it when he's not got the best injury record. And the amount he won in the air today a strike partner would love playing alongside him wouldn't they?
 
Then 87 minutes and panic changes, no system, no one knew where they were playing.

That who game was down to poor game management. Could understand slowing it up until half time but then they came out, had worked out our system and weaknesses and chucked that big No3 up (like overlapping wing back) and we didn’t adjust.

Always been my criticism of Wilder, poor game management and zero tactical nouse. People won’t like me saying it but the likes of Bohl can adjust his average players to match and overrun the competition from a losing position.

Not won a league game at BDTBL in 2024.

My thoughts a bump back down to earth make us realize we won't walk this league. Correct the wrongs
 
I hope Wilder has learned from today. That second half was absolutely abysmal. Total and utter shit. Amateurish. 2-0 up at half time and Wilder obviously told the players to defend and see the game out - bearing in mind we have a notoriously terrible defence plus a league 2 standard goalkeeper in goal until this Cooper finally steps in.

I called this a mile off at HT. Said that Wilder needed to give the players a rocket at half time.

First 20 mins great, after that it felt like the lads checked out mentally and thought they had the beating of QPR.
 
The main problem with the defence is that all oppo teams have to do is get near to us and launch it into the box/6 yard area knowilng that we're not too good in the air. So they score direct from the cross or knockdowns.
Midfield retreats to try and protect the defence. - which gives away two thirds of the pitch at least and no matter who plays us they inevitably look good.
We need a big b*******d at CH.

Who makes way? Sadly, because I love his attitude, it has to be Robinson. No good enough in the air or in anticipation/positioning. I say sadly because he was the only one who actually seemed to care last year, no room for sentiment in football though.

PS Blaming Wilder is ridiculous - does anyone seriously think anyone else could have persuaded the new players we've got to sign....And he's probably a better manager than all the experts on this site...

I'm not buying or selling about Wilder at this point, but I think any manager saying his team went off script (if he in fact has said this) is not a good look.

It doesn't matter whether you're managing a team of footballers, or a team of office workers, if you're the manager you need to manage.

Not a bad suggestion. If we're unable to attack, sacrifice the width and at least keep more compact. It's actually something we could have tried even before making substitutions.

We played inferior teams all pre season, and looked good going forward. We may also have needed some practice in defending against a better team.
