I was really optimistic when Nigel Adkins was appointed. I started to question my optimism when he made a glowing assessment of Jay McEveley and handed him the team captaincy. At that point I began to think that maybe Adkins was not the man for the job and unfortunately this proved to be the case. Indeed Adkins excelled his McEveley moment by his attempts to convince everyone of the contributions of Dean Hammond and awarding him a long expensive contract.
We're now starting to see articles suggesting Ivo Grbic may be getting a second chance if Michael Cooper moves on.
I think a lot of this is click bait journalism from the usual sources and can't see Cooperman moving to be a number 2 somewhere but as so often in the past the Leeds vultures are always circling.
I'm just hoping that we don't have an Ivo Grbic moment from Ruben Selles

If it does & Grbic costs us points with errors …..it will cost Selles his job.

My word, McEverley and Grbic in the same opening post - it's the stuff of nightmares!

As much as I agree with you about the Adkins optimism waning when McEverley was appointed captain - because I felt exactly the same - I'm still in utter shock and disbelief, that you made an opening post which mentions both McEverley(shudder) and Grbic(even shudderier), without putting a NSFW on it! 😱 Children access this site, you know, and I dread to think of the long term damage that could be inflicted on their psyche if they stumble across this thread and encounter - as I did, to my absolute horror and disbelief - those two names in the same post!

To any children reading this board, who might have stumbled across this thread in all innocence, as I did - run, run for your life, I say, and don't look back!
Just follow Kevin's example, below:

No way this is true.

I get that no one will sign him so let's try and make him feel valued whilst he is knocking around shire liffey, but if we sell Cooper (which would be madness) I would rather we gave the number 1 shirt to Faxon and just took a chance on him!

If Gbric stays that could mean that one of our other keepers is leaving I’m hoping it’s not Cooper

The article never said that Grbic might be given a chance if Cooper moves on. It said Selles is having a look at him in pre-season as all players have a clean slate. It merely implied that Selles may need ti decide between Davies and Grbic as back up for Cooper if we are keeping Faxon, as we currently have four goalkeepers.

There’s always a moment with United. I could list tens of them from the 60’s to today. Ghost goal, phantom whistler, penalty for “intent”, Warnock capitulation, Jags handball, Segers cheating, Simmonsen being signed and then the penalty, Evan’s having a night out, Brewster, Keiffer fucking Moore, Sales of Beattie, Fjortoft and Deane, season changing injuries to Coutts, Arblaster Souttar, O’Connel and that twat Widler signing Cannon. Tevez,Brooking, Don fucking Givens. 2 points deduction.

Feel free to add to the list

The Grbic chatter is just standard management speak.
Agree, Selles isn’t going say ‘never heard of him, but he’s shit’

Feel for the bloke, he came into the best league in the world, playing for the worse team in it, was playing within 24 hours cos Wilder had a fanny paddy with Wes and never recovered

The ironic cheers from his own fans when he actually completed a standard save can’t have helped 😂

That said, as a professional goalkeeper, he fuckin gash.

I remember feeling the same i was so upbeat 1st game of the season Gillingham away was on a day at the coast regular refresh on the sky sports app getting earache from the missus .. I knew after that 4-0 drubbing we were in trouble this was no one off. The post match interview was as shocking as the display... bad memories

What was just as bad was his internet persona on here. Mr Happy Clapper Personified.

I'm praying you don't work for the samaritans....🤣🤣

Adkins should have a statue in the carpark for getting rid of Neill Collins and Michael Doyle.

I would honestly just stay in the pub if grbic is ever in the starting 11. It would represent the start of a downward spiral and a bleak future if this is even being considered, worst keeper I’ve ever ever seen.

Worst keeper?

Olsen was pretty shabby, Simonsen a bomb scare and Davies isn't exactly Gordon Banks, but Dereck Richardson at the Pig in 79, tops them all. He forgot he was allowed to use his hands that day.

With an honourable nod to Lee Baxter.

And bringing in Martyn Woolford and Dean Hammond? Yeah think that’s a net negative there…

One of my earliest blades memories is of Richardson diving over the ball to concede against Rotherham. Even as a 6-7 year old I knew he was shit.

I think that's a bit unfair on Don Fucking Givens. Our designated penalty taker, John Matthews was hiding in a hole near the centre spot. He bottled it! At least Givens stood up to the plate.

And then took the weakest penalty in the annuls of football.

Yes, I was basically keeping it short. You are correct. My memory may also be wrong in that I thought Tony Kenworthy was originally designated but went off?

I think as I recall Kenworthy had been injured but Peters in his wisdom decided not to play him. I'm not sure but I think they didn't get on. I could be wrong.
Regardless, Kenworthy did have a good record when it came to penalties.
