That Gilchrist tackle.

Not seen it back but im sure hull had a similar tackle in the first half that could have been either way, but no mention of that.

The tackle was over the top of the ball stoods showing straight onto ankle of ours, could have been nasty.

I can only assume Gilchrists is been mention as he lunges full blooded and from further away.

It was a bad tackle and could have ended up worse, but it wasn't malicious.

Gilchrist wants to win, and maybe he wanted it a bit too much here so was a bit lucky to get away with one. But this game is at its best when we have a team who leave it all out there and put their bodies on the line.

Inevitably they will occasionally mistime tackles or get a rush of blood and make misjudgements, especially younger players.

It was a straight orange card for me... Didn't look like his feet were off the ground and fair play to their lad who didn't milk it. On the other hand, it was a poorly timed tackle with 'excessive force' (I think that's the term the rule book uses), so could have been a red (and could have hurt the lad).

On a related note, I think that challenge aside Gilchrist was excellent and has had a great start to life at the Lane. Impressed by his passing as well as defensive work. Just wish he'd backed himself to shoot after that lung busting run in the first half.

That doesn't make it right though, var ruins the game.
Yep, glad we don’t have it any more. I’d have had a mild moan about a red card but it could have gone either way. As a 6ft 5in slow running ex centre half it’s a shame to see but slide tackling is now a dying art.

Leading with your studs , whether or not close to the ground , risks a red.
You are out of control and dangerous.
None of our 4 yellow card tackles was necessary except perhaps Hamer's.
We have a thin squad which means discipline is important to avoid bans.

Yup, that Hull one would have been a red in the prem as he stood on his ankle and as with all things VAR it looks far worse in slow mo

Sits in the bucket “shouldn’t be a red but can be these days’

Don’t know if there was anything going off between them, but either way he shouldn’t have given ref a decision to make

Lesson learned hopefully as he’s some player

The tackle could be considered naughty but I prefer to focus on what a great game the lad had! We actually have 2 good fullbacks now and the best is unloaded Lowe and Bogle to boot to or rivals which in my mind weakens there teams, excellent business! UTB

I'd imagine most refs would have given him a red . All with the benefit of VAR
He / we got a fortune decision. It'll happen the other way round before the end of the season , someone will get away with one against us or one if ours will see red for much less.
That's football played by humans , reffed by humans .

God knows how some of you lot would have gone on watching the blood and thunder Bassett era, Gilchrist challenge was quite tame. Went for ball didnt get it, their man didn't make a meal of it and that's it.

Having a look at the tackle frame by frame I'm not sure that Gilchrist actually catches the Hull player with his boot whatsoever, as their player had both feet off the ground hurdling the challenge.

It was Gilchrists knee/body that actually takes him out.

Suppose it could have been a red for reckless force however after watching it multiple times I actually think yellow was probably correct.

It was impetuous and in another occasion or at an early stage of the game could have been more costly. That said I like Gilchrist .. good young defender who has played very well so far & is also up for the physical side of the game so certainly not gonna berate him . I think the manager & staff will have passed on good advice & he’ll be a bit wiser next time ⚔️

A tired decision fuelled by adrenaline - hadn't he just won a header/challenge beforehand so was following up. It was a red, but hopefully he learns from it , and luckily it hasn't cost us.

Thought him and Anel were MOTM contenders with Soutts a close third.

Had we been losing that would have been a red card. Their player would have been writhing around, holding his knee and screaming like a little girl. As it was they were losing, couldn't afford the wasted time so miracle of miracles, the lad got up relatively quickly and suffered no lasting injury. He completed the 90 minutes, no harm done.

Gilchrist had a really good game, and was guilty of no more than a mistimed tackle caused by tired legs. He cramped up straight away and was subbed because he was fucked, not to save him getting booked again. I've seen a few crying about him tackling like that in other threads, suggests to me that you've forgotten that football at this level is a contact sport. Premier League red card, Championship a yellow at worst. Really refreshing to see that, he's on loan from Chelsea but late in the game was fighting like fuck for the Blades. That'll do for me so rather than take snidy digs at the lad, be thankful that he didn't roll over like some of you fuckers would.

UTBFTP 👊👊👊
Pretty sure a little girl would have got up and carried on. Maybe he would have been writhing around more if he was a middle aged man.

I think it's interesting on the 'View from Hull', that no one has mentioned it. Can't have been that bad.😀

I thought it was reckless but i've watched it a few times and I don't think he makes contact with the "studs" it's his following thigh/back that knocks the player over.

The one on Blaster that was a stamp on the ankle probably hurt more.

It's one of those that could have been given if the game was more alive or more of a game where cards were given out like it was Christmas.

Out of the context of the game I could see it given. In context live I wasn't worried or thought he got away with one

I was surprised it wasn't a red tbh with today's refereeing, didn't seem that different to the Stephens RC for Soton this weekend.
