The tackle on Baldock was shocking.

We got 6 yellows to their 2. We certainly weren’t that sort of team last night but the ref set himself up for it. It makes the decision not to book Viera earlier even more bizarre

I thought when he rugby tackled Brooks ‘that’s off’ then realised he didn’t book him for the nonsense in the corner.

They got off lightly at 2-1. It should have been about 3-1 or 4-1 at half time and they could have legitimately finished with 9 men.

Still agree with Wilder. Prefer full-blooded tackles to rolling around waving imaginary cards. Decent player, mind.

What's the rule on retrospective action?

As I understand, they can only take retrospective action if the ref hasn't seen it. If the ref books someone, this can't be upgraded to a red as the ref is adjudged to have dealt with it.

Basically, the panel back their officials to the hilt so referees don't have to get any better.

Personally loved Wilder's reaction and comments post game. Made little of the challenge when asked but rightly diplomatically brought up Saiz's diving and constantly waving his imaginary card at the ref.

There were two incidents towards the end of the first half, where O'Connell struggled to stay on his feet and then Baldock did exactly the same, they both stumbled on and they could easily have gone down and didn't.

That's the way I want my team to play and I also like Wilder being subtly critical of the diving and cheating that goes on. I wouldn't say that we're perfect, but I think we're far closer to the spirit of the game than most other teams and long may it continue.

Should have been down to 9. The chap that brought Brooks down twice, 2 clear yellows and that fucking tackle. You heard to noise on impact, thoughts it was a leg snapping. My old man says a lot of fouls wouldn't have been back in the 70s, but pretty sure that's a red even in the 70s. Probably getting a pat on the back from his Leeds scum players too. No retrospective action because he was booked. Disgraceful. I was screaming at the TV, which in itself is disgraceful and strange behaviour, but it was really that bad !

I was going to post this exact thing. Watching on tv your eyes followed the ball away from Baldock but you heard the crunch, heard the scream, and thought it was a career ender.

And yes I'm slightly hoarse today because I too went sliding (embarrassingly) on my knees in front the TV proper bellowing obscenities after that moment. I swear if someone had put in that tackle at Goodwin or the Pitz they'd have been given a shoeing from all sides regardless of the referee.

Ref was desperate to give them the benefit of the doubt on every single decision. Amazed they didn't get a penalty towards the end. Another wank refreeing performance to go with the Norwich game.

I know football memories can be short, and that the standard of reffing is low generally at the moment, but I think Duncan's performance in the Norwich game was among the very worst I've ever seen. He lost control after about 10 minutes, made terrible decisions throughout, and turned in a display that was simply chaotic in every respect. It's been a long time since I felt wound up by a visiting team as much I did by Norwich, but much of what they did that night was just taking advantage of the ref's all round hopelessness (and the cowardly, head-below-the-parapet attitude of his "assistants").

Last night I thought Duncan made plenty of poor decisions, including over THAT tackle, but relative to the Norwich game he looked like a bald Italian striding confidently to glory through a World Cup final. Maybe the doc at the ref's association finally got his drugs right.

You're very generous. I think the player lost his head and it wasn't just a timing issue. If he'd won the ball, then the follow through might still have snapped the Baldock's leg in two. Studs up, straight leg, full stretch, shin height and off the ground.

Credit to him for the apology but he needs to sort his head out before he cripples someone.

I thought this about last night (didn't see the norwich game), it started by giving us the free kick when Carter-Vickers messed up, the next decision went against us and I thought somebody's spoken to him through his headset and he's evened it up but he proceeded to get about 80% wrong after that. And I'm not saying I'm right because it was never dwelt on but the 2 offsides when we were in good positions, that was the lino's call but I really wasn't sure.

Says it all when the linesman doesn't have a word with the the ref. I think the refs for most of our matches this season have been piss poor.

In Europe, they have 'referees assistants' by the side of each goal to aid the ref. They could have twenty of these useless 'assistant' cunts and they'd all keep schtum as they're afraid of how the ref. would mark them.

Yes thought Wilders reply was spot on. I get fed up with managers constantly banging on about poor refereeing decisions and blaming those for the teams bad result (mentioning no names!!). It was so refreshing to hear a manager put it down to players being committed and playing in a derby match in front of 35,000. That said it was an appalling tackle and decision by the ref not to give a red card but everyone in the ground and watching it on TV knows the ref got it wrong and I would be very surprised if even the ref also doesn't know he got it wrong when he reflects. I think the managers get to do a report on the ref don't they and CW will have the opportunity to make the same point in his report. That is the correct way to do it not come out and whinge about it on TV.

I watched it in a bar in Ingoldmells. I thought there were some Leeds fans at the side of us because they cheered when Leeds scored.
I couldn't help it when that "tackle" went in and turned to them shouting "Dirty fucking bastard". They looked away and I thought to myself it was because they knew it was bad and were embarrassed.

Everyone one in the country watching that will tell you it should have been a red. The ref didn't give it, fair enough.
CW says it's a Yorkshire Derby, and it's a contact sport, and tackles will go flying in. Also making the point, that players trying to get other players booked/ sent off, is a lot worse in his eyes. Couldn't agree more, we want to see passion in games like last night. But the point I'm getting to, is, if that had been a United player, the useless prick of a ref would have shown the red card in a blink of an eye, no ifs or buts.
