That defending

We really missed our usual right wing backs today.

We were vulnerable down that flank, a bit like we were before Freeman came in for Brayford start of last season. Hoping him or Baldock's back soon.

The first goal is self explanatory. It happens to most defenders at some point in there careers. 2nd goal was down to a bit of luck and the space opening up after CCV slipped. It was costly yes but it’s harsh to hold him accountable. 3rd down to non existent tracking back and marking by Bash. I love Bash but we needed a quicker and more mobile player like Baldock at wing back tonight. I’m discounting the 4th and 5th goals as we were going he’ll for leather for it at the time. Credit the management. They did there utmost to get us back into the game. Wilder has said we might get the odd beating and today could have gone that way but never under estimate a Wilder side. The Fulham players were absolutely knackered energy wise at full time. Time to bounce back again Saturday
ebanks landell did the same thing at Fleetwood away last season, and he was older and had more experience than CCV it happens to everyone that lindelof CB who plays for man u did the same thing when they lost to Huddersfield

Coutts or no Coutts , their first two were gifts . After that the game was stretched and that's exactly what Fulham wanted .

Pick ourselves up , dust ourselves down , learn from it and move on .
Couldn't believe how casual CCV was in under hitting a pass back; still we continued passing back to Blackman Gerra Grip . CCV .

Lets take a chill pill peeps. Losing tonight doesn't mean the start of something bad. BUT lets be fair how many would take 36 pts at this stage of the season? I will have snatched that hand off.
Let's face it guys. We have been spoiled since Chris and Alan took over. If we all were to look back before game one of this season . I guarantee that no one would have foreseen our current league position . Safe before Christmas. I would have taken that.

We knew when we came up the sides in here have quality players. Fulham hadn't got their season going but they picked last night to find their mojo They have in Sessinon one of the deadliest strikers around. And our gung go style suited their quick breaks. We will lose games but we won't ever not be entertained so please let's not change our ethos. We will still win twice as many as we lose. Don't see many 9 goal games with 2 hat tricks these days was probably as good a game as we've seen in years

Yes, it's the striker Billy Sharps fault that we let 5 goals in tonight. Fuck all to do with the fact that Carter Vickers gift wrapped 2 of them and Basham was 7 miles away from his man for the 3rd.

Let's all fucking blame Billy Sharp, the forums favourite target.

Defend as a team, attack as a team.
Individual errors happen up top as well as at the back.
Nothing really came off for Sharp, he was poor, and spent most of the night under the total control of their centre halves. Deal with it. Doesn’t mean anyone hates him, that is what happened.

All goals are avoidable if you look hard enough, but players are human and make errors. First goes without saying, CCV tried to play the back pass early when in truth he had more time to make sure he got it right.
Second had some luck for them to fall where it did, and the lad did seem to then run through several players too easily before getting a good shot away.
Third Enda was done wide and couldn’t stop the cross, and the three centre halves didn’t pick up the men in the box and body positions meant they couldn’t spot the runners. Could also be an issue with communication. But as full back Bash isn’t at fault IMHO their runner didn’t come in from the flank he ran through the middle.
Fourth and fifth were on the break, and due in the main to who was left facing the one v ones. Lundstram is so immobile and slow.

So there we go, no direct fault of Billy for the goals but it can be argued he was as guilty as anyone for giving the ball away which in turn means we are then having to get the ball back. Clarke score three, and had a couple more efforts. I think Billy had one effort on goal which he didn’t connect with and was deflected over by a defender. Clarke at the moment is a much better striker than Sharp as he isn’t completely reliable on service. And while Coutts is out we lose control, control is what allows the roaming centre halves which in turn creates chances for over laps and delivery into the box. And that is where Sharps movement and finishing get involved.

Ah ok, so now you've (probably rightly) highlighted Billy Sharps performance last night in a thread about defending, did you also acknowledge his two goals on Friday? Just for the sake of balance like?

I didn’t see the game Friday, so can’t say how he played. But I’ve seen a well taken penalty and a very good run and finish from him...as well as a superb ball through from CCV, a great through ball from Fleck for the penalty and great cross from Fleck and Clarke finish for the third too.

back in the day we had the same arguments about Edwards.. 'does nowt but score'.. comical

Wow. The worst I’ve seen since the Southend debacle.

Bad bad BAD day at the office, embarrassing result and we’re back down to earth with a HUGE bang.

I’d hate to see us fade away after such an amazing start after losing Coutts. Time for the lads to step up to the plate starting on Saturday. Our season literally depends on it.

Today, that was shocking. Some of the mistakes I wouldn’t have expected to see from Jay McEveley.

Birmingham can’t come quick enough.

You posted this before the game was even done. Have a word with yourself.

Yes the defence had an off day, but Fulham sacred us to death with their pace and pressed like we pressed other teams.

Take the positives:
We have the leagues to scorer
We scored 4 against a good team (again)
We didn't;t go a whole game not having a shot on target.
Despite being told we would be relegated by xmas, we are 3rd!
We've shown before we bounce back (sorry) from defeats.

One last thing and happy to be called wrong in a few games time but give Lundstram a few games to settle into the role. He's not starting too many and last nights game was not easy for a midfielder. Coutts, he may not be but give him a chance, or he'll end up in a George Long scenario.

When we had already conceded 5 goals. It’s not like that was going to change is it?

And Lundstram is different to Coutts. They aren’t comparable. Lundstram tried too many champagne balls when Coutts just likes to keep it simple and keep possession. I like him but he’s gonna take a while to adjust. Big shoes to fill

Agree fully with your Lundstram view. Just seems a bit odd to post before the game is finished. Albeit the defence were all over the place.

It does if we want top 6, which is what we should be aiming for now yeah.

What an idiot you are,you are the clown who said we should sign Joe Mason aren't you,and that bar Billy non of our strikers are any good, eat humble Leon Clarke you fool

Quelle surprise - he's here, the oracle of football. The font of all knowledge.
And Joe Mason still would've been a good signing you 'clown'.

Oh, hang on, let me guess, you knew Leon Clarke was about to turn into peak Ronaldo overnight. What a load of bollocks.

I am prepared to give all our players a chance, unlike you who blows smoke up other teams players arses, like when you claimed Maddison the cheating Norwich scumbag controlled the game, until it was pointed out to you that we in fact had the majority of possession.

If Joe Mason was such a good signing, how many goals has he scored this season?

Maddison was fantastic. He has since continued to be such and has earned an England U21 call up. Cheating antics or not.

And Mason has only scored one or two, but how many did you expect him to score for burton? In our team hed be a lot more effective.

.

^^^^ this

Felt they deserved the win, played well stifled us and attacked with pace , yes we made bad mistakes and didn't get anything but we move on

Cw and AK mean we now enjoy our matches even when we loose IMO if that's possible !

Onwards to Saturday

Hats off to Leon , just a goal machine , !!

Great post especially your second sentence.

David Brooks has earned 2 full caps for Wales in the same time period played a pivotal role in the high pressure environment of a Derby, and scored the winner away at Leeds to take his team to the top of the league, the cheat, and you openly admit he is a cheat, plays for a mid table team, and you made the wild claims about Mason ,not me,perhaps you should have applied the more effective term to our strikers who do actually play in our team,Leon has made you look a right chump,

Ohh someone else thinks Billy has a bad game that's 2 of us lol
PS were talking about last night not Friday night , Friday night he had a good match but Tuesday night he didn't lol

And has anyone said anything about David Brooks NOT playing well? Failing to see your point.
Leon has made everyone look a chump by that ethos. Not just me.

If you want to trawl through my post you’ll find I was Leon’s biggest supporter last year. Boring.

If you were such a big supporter of Leon's,why did you make the claim about Joe Mason being better than all our other strikers bar Billy?because that includes Leon, does it not?

On that we can both agree, you are a bore,a world class always right, never wrong bore, but you ain't right in this Mason is better

We looked a bit of a shambles at the back. I mean their first goal, probably the best pass all season. Gotta pick your chin up after that. That Sessegnon is a class player, like *&%T off a shovel and took his goals well. Gotta take it on the chin and look forward to Brum this Saturday teatime who are in danger of dropping into the RZ. Should be a walk in the park. Onwards and upwards

Because Joe Mason was performing well at Championship level rather than league one.

There’s no one more boring than yourself. If I come second to you, I’ll be a happy man.
