Not having a go at the OP, but respectfully in my humble opinion I think it's time to move on and look forward.

Memories are great, but I don't want us to be like those other people in the city who go on about boxing day for decades to smother decades of underachievement.

If others get enjoyment out of it who am I to stop them of course

There are memories and then there is revenge. Was there for the original and to see anything about BOUNCING DAY day is more than a pleasure for me. Voted that as my best away day ever . If there's any more let's see them.

Winning a trophy or qualifying for Europe is what I would call a parade. For the same reason I was embarrassed that we had a parade after promotion from League 1.

Yes I understand that, today marks 4 years to the day since we won promotion at Northampton and I was there and no-one was celebrating more than me!

We should enjoy things when we can, though I find it a bit sad that we are forced to celebrate/commemorate things that should in theory be beneath/expected of us.

We are a yo yo club mainly between the top 2 divisions with obviously some L1 experience
I will celebrate any promotion (especially after six seasons in L1) and every victory over those scumbags from S6 and have fantastic memories from those special days. As Ive said it is what being a football fan is all about you have to experience the lows to fully enjoy the highs

I think we are a club that has historically underachieved for our size and stature and has not won a major trophy for almost 100 years. We are the largest football club in Europe to have never played in European football. We should aspire, and expect better.

I even posted here before that I actually preferred and enjoyed the promotion to League 1 more at the time, nevertheless that doesn't mean that we should have held a parade for it.

Newcastle aren't anything special, but they quite rightly expect not to be playing in the championship.

I watched the game at home on Sky with my grandson and a Wednesday fan.

We were pretty impressive and comfortable first half.
It looked like it was a heading for a deserved 2-0 half time lead but they pulled one back on the stroke of half time.

We were 2-1 up at half time but I felt really nervous because we played so well but still only had a narrow lead.
I also expected the half time team talk for Sheff Wed to be easy....and I expected them to be pumped up second half.

The second half did start with Sheff Wed fired up chasing the equaliser.....and as expected they scored to make it 2-2.
I’d have accepted a draw there and then....my Wednesday mate came to life and confidently bragged Wednesday would now go on to win.

My grandson and I was so down/ depressed....the TV cameras show all the Wednesday fans bouncing and gloating but ......the ball goes to Duffy.
He feints one way...then the other....then slams it into the roof of the net to score a brilant goal.

I was actually running around the room and was so pumped up with energy....I had to go outside and run up and down the street a bit.
It’s probably the most I’ve lost it for a single goal......it’s a good job I wasn’t at the match ha ha.

I enjoyed watching it thank you. I posted recently about the relatively smaller amount of good times vs the bad during a lifetime supporting a football club and why for most teams it was necessary to celebrate victories as much as possible. We aren’t Newcastle thankfully and if the City of Sheffield wants to celebrate in that way, that’s fine by me.

As the years go on, Newcastle look more and more like being a yo-yo club. There was a recent thread on ‘Where we Belong’. If we are classed in the same group as Brighton, Norwich, WBA, Burnley, Fulham, Watford, Boro, Bournemouth, then surely Newcastle have to be there as well.

I also loved the phone footage of the goals and couldn’t help thinking in a glass half empty moment if we will ever get such a spontaneous moment against them again due to the spectre of VAR

In a rubbish anomaly of a season this forum has been brilliant for me to follow and keep up to date with supporters views and humour. This OP cheered me up for a few minutes. That piece written recently about the greasy chip butty song being sung behind a face mask was pure genius, exactly the sort of thing to make small compensation for grounds being closed.

Yes I agree it is part of being a fan, I particularly enjoyed the other thread today reliving the Lee Evans goal which I had forgotten about for example. It's just I think this particular memory is posted very often, though as I quite clearly stated this is not a dig at the poster who posted it. For me the more it's posted the more it's a sad reminder that it'll be the best memory we will have in years to come, and the more we seem like the other team in Sheffield's fans who go on about boxing day, and the more it loses it's specialness.
