That Blades moment?

What are your special Blades moments?

Let's not all pick the obvious ones, someone of my age has many of those.

The more treasured in some ways are the unexpected or different.

Some of mine are.....

Watching the Blades train on the Ball Inn ground as a youngster......having a cup of tea with the players......remember Len Badger and Geoff Salmons as being so friendly.

Seeing Reg Brealey landing his helicopter on the Ball Inn......I thought it was a new beginning!

Watching TC blowing kisses to the crowd and then pissing on the opposition.

Working on Cec Coldwell's car and having a really good chat with him in the 70's.

Foxy as a mascot at the Lane.

My allotment greenhouse windows being smashed with the Blades training and refusing a free ticket for the cost of the glass.......I had a season ticket!

That cup match against Arsenal.......what a day!

Night matches used to have a great feel about them.

I think night matches are special, the TC moment of course, but my best blades moment happened at the other side of Sheffield on a wet night when we won 3-1(I think, memory is an age related problem). I was on the front row behind the goal and got absolutly saturated.

Father died last year, september 20th, after he had been told he had cancer not even 6 weeks before. Before they (doctors) told him I visited him in june 2007, and we looked at the new Championshipschedule, cause I wanted to take him with me to Bramall Lane as a birthdaygift, he became 70 years. As a thank you for all the matches he visited with me when I was a kid, growing up in the Hague, two teams at that time, ADO and Holland Sport. He took me to both clubs, many times. In 1971 that two clubs came together and became FC Den Haag. (now ADO Den Haag)
Well, we planned to visit a match in november 2007, Burnley at home. My father knew the name Burnley from the sixties... , so I arranged everything for that visit. Father died, and I did visit Bramall Lane for that match, alone...
When I heard the Greasy Chips Butty song started I cryed and cryed, and although it was not a good match, 0-0 and Robson was still there it was a very emotional visit for me.......

Probably staying at the Reading holiday inn for the away game there and finding out we were staying in the same hotel as the players were.
My dad sat and propped the bar up with Warnock, Blackwell and Robinson for ages the night before the game. We won 2-0 that season..think it was 2002/2003.
The following season we stayed there again and yep, the players were there again too. Great way to get autographs although the first time we had already got tickets and they offered us free tickets in the away end but we'd already paid for tickets ourselves. Could have saved quite a bit had we not!

Apart from the above, winning 4-0 at Elland Road after so much crap off the Leeds fans in previous years was great.

Meeting mates on Wembley Way before the Palace play-off match, greeting each other like long lost brothers, even though we'd seen each other in the pub the night before.

Seeing a young kid on holiday in a Blades shirt and giving him a full volume "na na na na he's a Blade and he's a Blade" and then worrying that he was going to explode with joy. "Dad, they're Blades too!"

The first time Small SV sang "Wednesday are rubbish" down the phone to her piggy Grandad.

Yelling abuse from a speeding car at anyone in a pig shirt. Not very mature, but good fun. Serves them right for wearing rags.

Going to an away match, having a bloody good day out, and us losing.

Seeing TC in the Lane car park. It's not a rare sight, but hey, it's TC.

Refusing point-blank to drink a brew from a piggy mug. I'd rather die of thirst.

Gary Hamsons goal against Liverpool was the sweetest for me. Watching wave after wave of Liverpool attacks. Mind you TC brought us all down to earth playing a blinder for Leeds as they crushed us 4-0 in the next round..

Sleeping rough in the car park to ensure we got tickets for Anfield in 2003 has to encapsulate what watching the Blades is to me.

Bloody stupid. Freezing cold. Surrounded by pissed people. We lost the game anyway.

Wouldn't change it for the world
