They're usually right about taking money off mugs. Just look at some of the other 'contenders' - Jaap Stam, Mick McCarthy, Paul Cook, Phil Parkinson FFS. No wonder CW looks the best option but I'd imagine the Sunderland fans would be underwhelmed. They're suddenly minted and want a manager who is almost certain to get the Black Cats promoted next season and CW hasn't got the track record or experience of buying and handling big-money signings. Most of those on the list are fence-sitters. I'm surprised Tony Mowbray isn't in there, or Darren Ferguson. And where's Adolf Hitler? I'm sure some idiot would 'go for a punt'...

No ones had a winning bet on Adolf since I had a 641 up for him to manage Germany , Poland, Belgium and France at the same time......

I heard a worrying one yesterday...
Wilder to West Brom after the final game of the season
Gary Bower (yeah i had to google him too) being interviewed to replace him...

Not sure why but this ones touched a nerve. That would suggest that it's not do much the ownership issue not being resolved but that he knows he's not going to have a budget that he can move ahead with, whatever the outcome. I really hope this isn't the case.

As an educated guess, I'd say 'Next Sunderland manager' would've been priority number 352,648 in Skybet's trading department yesterday.

They will have the limits set so they can't get turned over, some junior trader keeping half an eye on the ticker with clear instructions of "Don't fuck this up" (even though the systems would make it hard to do so) and they're probably thinking "why do the marketing department make us do next manager markets?".

They certainly wouldn't be putting 8/13 up if there was anything concrete in it.

And there is the view of someone who knows the industry.

Sunderland have just released their latest financials. £165million is being written off for the take over but theu are still losing £750,000 a WEEK. Unable to play players because it costs too much. Debt may have gone but ongoing issues remain. Will Wilder really go to that?

Thats pretty much how i reacted. The source of where it originated worried me as well because he's a normally reliable fella.

Hope its just a load of shite

The biggest reason to worry is that out of United and Sunderland, I think that Sunderland are more likely to get back to the Premier League before United. If Wilder thinks the same, throw in a massive pay rise and he could be gone.

Hopefully that's just me being pessimistic!
Glossop N.E and Darwen are more likely to experience top flight football before us.

If he is as pissed off as he seems to be with the situation at BL, then Sunderland seems a strong possibility to me.

Given the right budget, he can get them straight back up. This will increase his stock more than a few years of struggling to make ends meet with us, during which time he will face increasing disappointment and frustration from our fickle fans, as we fail to get into the top 6 again and again perhaps losing to the pigs and dirties regularly along the way.

Add to this the likelihood of a good personal financial deal and a clear understanding, baked into his contract that he won’t be dicked around and interfered with by a DOF.

Such a sad state of affairs that such a wonderful, passionate 100% blade manager has been put in this position.

I’ve not renewed yet after many many years of holding a ST. And this debacle is why.

Be a poor show by Chinese Chris if he left after selling the club to Holmes and Leonard in January, maybe they would be his first signings at SAFC.

IF, he goes there and they aren't top three for Christmas he'll be out. Big payoff maybe but that really is a pressure job with the money they're saidcto be losing.

Yes can’t disagree.
It would be a gamble. But he doesn’t strike me as the sort to shirk a challenge through fear of failure.

"
Like a night out in Sunderland,
Like a glass of blue pop,
Come Chrissy Wilder,
And make Sunderland top

"

This on their forums. It's worse than I ever imagined.

Sorry, I've kept by powder dry mainly on this but IF (and its a big if) he goes to Sunderland he's not got the ambition I want from a Blades manager.

West Brom I'd get, any Prem job I'd get, hell, anyone with more than 3 quid and a packet of wotsits to spend in the transfer window in the CHAMPIONSHIP I'd get. But to drop to League One again? To a car crash of a club that needs a total rebuild? A risky poison chalice which could destroy your reputation in months like with Grayson and Coleman?

Makes absolutely no sense career wise and if he does that he'll have no well wishes from me. It'll show that he couldn't wait to get away. It'll show that he wasn't willing to carry on the fight. It'll show that he didn't believe in himself or his players to replicate this seasons showing. It'll show that he doesn't have the loyalty he screams for from his players, and that doesn't sit right with me.

Summed it up superbly there for me.

I reckon you could get a packet of Wotsits with the quid we got from the Prince! And people say he has contributed nothing!

What worries me is if he does go then there is NOBODY that can fill his boots. I strongly believe this and it would be a massive step backwards for the club :(

I've thought exactly that too. The best alternative I've come up with is Simon Grayson, who I reckon would leave Bradford for us. Then its take your pick from Warburton, Coleman and McCarthy, no doubt with a few worryingly crap names like Steve McClaren and Jaap Stam.

and to add, can you imagine the outburst? - FaceTwitter would explode with atomic proportions and the pressure for the board from the stands would be immense.

I could see the attendances dropping to below the average L1 days.

Have you ever seen a pig will a smug snout the width of Hyde Park Flats to Wadsley Bridge ? - You would!

Let's hope it's all rubbish and CW has bigger Cahoonas than most given him credit for.

I'm saying all this and I do fall on the Clapper brigade side !

How is staying United a good long term career move? A few more mid table seasons is hardly going to move his career forward.

If Sunderland's new owners are going to back him with more money than us over the next 2 or 3 years (not difficult), with Wilder at the helm they will easily over take us.

I'll just point out I've been to Wembley to watch Glossop in the past few years and I'd never have thought that growing up...

A move to Sunderland is not a good career move.

Not too dissimilar to the situation he inherited here. Bottom out, get the fans behind you and build from there. Then back in the Champ, they’d be a force to be reckoned with for sure. And with a few quid behind them, too.

I'm sure Grayson and Coleman thought the same. Now one's struggling at Bradford and the other will struggle to get a League One job.

Different board now though at Sunderland, not the clowns who have been in charge.

The people who’ve took over have only been used to small fry
Sunderland is a different proposition

You could well be right mate. I'm just guessing really, but surely they can't be any worse than the last lot?

And nobody knows them from Adam, it's not like they have a track record of sorting clubs out is it? Stuart Donald has never chaired a football league club. They could quite easily continue to tumble because there's no proof anyone knows what they're doing.

If Chris is willing to risk his reputation, leave 'his' club for a side like that, a league below - maybe he's not as much of a man or blade as I thought he was.
