... To Blackwell. Had a great run when you first took over and to the play off final.

And helping send the pigs down!

He did well after the Robson debacle.
He should have gone after the PO final defeat IMO!

not long Blackwell the sunday league season kicks off in September, there maybe a job there for you :D

And helping send the pigs down!

...saved us from a relegation battle in his first season, took us to Wembley in his second. Managed under a constantly tumbling budget and with the burden of inherited players on big contracts.

It's sad he's left just as the club is finally stabilising, but in many ways you might say he's served his purpose now. I really don't think any manager should be sacked after three games having been backed in the summer, thus I feel some sympathy for the man.

So for everything other than the style of football, cheers to Mr Blackwell and cheerio.

Should have stuck to his guns after the playoff final IMO.

Thanks for going now and giving us a chance to still do something this season.

Overall I'm pleased to see him go but lots to thank him for. I think the main mistakes, the appointment of Robson and the needless extension of KBs contract, have been made at boardroom level.

Been lots of clamour for number 2s to take over at the Lane - will Speed (and it will be him (or Phil Brown)) fare any better than KB here or Stuart McCall at Bratfud?

Brilliant to hear people around me today shouting "How come they've always got a player in space for a pass?", very similar voices to those who were shouting "Why do we always knock it long Warnock you wanker?"

have to agree with the first bit wholeheartedly... to be fair to the people in the last paragraph we DID usually do that ;-)

i'm still not renewing. it will take a miracle worker to form a decent side with some of the dross we have got. plus there were free tickets galore today. i'm sure that will be repeated.

STs are still on sale. If you didn't renew because of KB, the excuse has gone now........

Indeed. Even Micalijo, who seems to have some sort of pathalogical issue with Blackwell, renewed his season ticket. Fair play.

So those who didn't and cited the manager as the reason need to show their colours.

Agree with many comments, came in and saved us after Robson. Pushed us to the play-offs the next season and should have gone after the final. He would have left with his head held high. Unfortunately, last season wrecked his chances of this, poor football and poor signings, yes tough times but ultimately he picks the team.

They are shifting the goalposts already - see Stafford's post above.

But as you say, fair play to Micalijo, at least he puts his money where his mouth is.

I'm sure Micalijo would be joining us but, for the record, he's drinking heavily at a wedding in Warrington today.

He asked me to pass the following message on - "Blackie, Thanks for your work both as our manager and also in disproving the theory that you have to be 6 foot 2 plus to be a great 'keeper. If you ever need a hug, you know where I am. Love you x Mic"

Why aren't all his posts that funny? :D

Because he isn't usually drinking heavily in Warrington?

I'd assumed we wouldn't hear from him for days after today's news anyway. He will be furiously wanking for the forseeable future, and will need to get rid of the resulting RSI before he can use a keyboard again.

This to me is the final act of the Robson debacle. Blackwell came in at a time when we needed a change due to the worse and most unpopular management appointment in the history of the club. The fact he was a Blade made him even more popular especially when he rescued us from potential relegation. Lets not forget he was one match from winning promotion, however I agree that he should have resigned when we didn't make it as to be honest it was never going to have a happy ending with the loss of parachute money etc.

The next appointment, without sounding too dramatic, is the most important appointment for a very long time.
