Guys,

I'd just like to thank you very much for letting Dave Kitson go at the end of last season. He is probably the best player in L2 and is the main reason why we sit top of the pile. He isn't playing up front but more as a centre midfield whose creativity is different class. His running and tackling is first class as well, which is surprising as I am sure you guys painted him as some kind of a lazy lump.

Anyway your loss is our gain, have al look at his assists yesterday.

Would you guys have him back out of interest? And are you surprised by his form in this new midfield role?

Yep, surprised and no wouldn't want him back. Legs gone and I can only presume it's the drop in level that's suited him.

midfield? i'm amazed. he was a dirty cheating git by the end of his time at blades, shows how bad league 2 is if he's doing that well, but we'll know for certain when we get relegated. as for kitson, fairplay to him.

Nope, he looked utterly spent from February onwards.

He had plenty of quality but you say his running is "first class"? When he played for us he'd drop into midfield looking for the ball and get stranded there as he couldn't rejoin the attack. It was painful to watch.

But then again SUFC have developed a knack for making players look like mince.

Time up is called on us all. Kitson enjoyed his time at the top table and good luck to him by dropping a level or two It is unfortunate that the Blades are now picking up the crumbs, rather than helping the teams that once they would never have met, and who their supporters had never heard of, except as non league non entities,
It illustrates how far we have fallen. Good luck to Oxford.

I have no axe to grind with Kitson. He came in, did a decent enough job and towards the end struggled because the service to him was shite. At the time I was just fed up of us signing past-it has been's to display some sort of ambition so was happy when he left. Would I have him back now? In a heartbeat, i'd pick him every time ahead of King and Porter. But would I go onto the Portsmouth unofficial fans forum spunking in my pants about how amazing he is? Probably not...

If he is playing in central midfield and (according to oxfordunited) his running and tackling is first class, his legs clearly have not gone. You cannot put it down to the 'drop in level' There is little difference in class between the third and fourth division (apart from a handful of sides) and no difference in the pace at which the game is played.

As we have played three fourth division sides in cup competitions this season and failed to beat any of them, I would say the standard at that level is pretty similar to that in the third division.

Accepted that if his running and tackling are really first class, that his legs haven't gone. I'm just struggling with the reality that his running and tackling are really first class. I'd more imagine that he's playing a Cowans / McCall role when their legs had gone.

Either way, given the lack of effort and niggliness that took over his game at the back end of the season, I wouldn't want him back - but only in the same way that I wished we could release just about all of the current squad.

I didn't mind Kitson when he was here and true he did get tired towards the end of the season. Still scored goals and more than anyone else managed to get within the team. Also I didn't mind him giving the Yeovil lad what was coming to him in the Play-Off matches either. Not that I condone that sort of behavior really but some of their players were being dirty bastards over both games.

Was decent for us at the start, but ended up being more of a burden for us. If you watch our second leg playoff you would see why.
He might still turn sour for you.

Kitson did well to get as many goals as he did for us because as said above he was past it and his overall match fitness for 90 minutes was to be desired. There was no getting forward and getting back again it was one or the other and the rest of the team had to adapt to compensate for this.

It is no hidden fact that Kitson still has that bit of class about him albeit in spells. The bloke was a cracking footballer and I would have loved him at the lane in his prime however we got him at the wrong end of his career.

So yeah I wish him all the luck with you lot but I am not losing the slightest bit of sleep about letting him go. I don't believe in carrying passengers on the football pitch and I don't agree with getting players to change their overall styles of play to allow a player to have a breather or two in a game.

I'll pick 5 words out of your post that sums Kitson up perfect, really.

Dave Kitson Best League Two

Dave Kitson Best League Two

That might imply him to be the best player in League Two though which I doubt he is now therefore 4 words sum him up.

Dave Kitson League Two

In fact Jordan Chappell is at Torquay is he not and he's scored 5 goals so far and rumour is he is s**t hot for them so i'm more gutted about losing him than Kitson!

Perhaps this transformation isn't that surprising, given he was continually dropping back into midfield to collect the ball. It was actually one of the things that was beginning to get annoying towards the end - I remember one instance at Stevenage where he was practically in the left back area he'd dropped back so far, and as he was the lone striker there was as a result nobody up front for large periods of the half.

I doubt he's an attractive option to bring back tbh. Unless he's adapted further into a left-back - we've got at least 8 positions left in the team not occupied by a left-back at present.
