As Blades we have to accept that the good times only last for 4-5 seasons maximum

1971/75. 1990 / 94. 2016 / 2020.

Prince understands that and decided he can't go against history.
 
To some this is a disaster to others it
going to be a new chapter.

I just hope we get a progressive manager who gets some exciting attacking players in.
We have the defence and maybe attack we just need quality midfield and we will smash it.
 
Need to get the new man in asap so he can start building that relationship with the likes of Egan, O'Connell etc get them on board and give them reason to believe in staying. If we wait til end of season their agents will be finding moves for them from now.

Eddie Howe for me. The rest of the favourites list makes me feel very depressed.
 
I was looking forward to Wilder giving it another go in the Championship next season, I think he’s been a superb manager and overseen some of the best football we’ve played since I first went over 50 years ago. I cannot deny that this season he has lost his way and when under pressure, we’ve seen another side to his personality, which has appeared stubborn and petulant at times, but nevertheless I would have kept him for another go, I think he’d earned that much for the three previous seasons.

But, in my mind, it doesn’t make any sense for the board to have sacked him now, we‘re cut adrift at they bottom of the League and they will have to pay him a substantial severance package if that is the case. I think it more likely that Wilder has resigned and if thats true, he will have another job lined up and will be announced within a fortnight. Behind all of his, supporter, ball boy, player, sat up there, been away to Rochdale on a Tuesday night, flannel, his number one priority is Chris Wilder and I just don't buy into this ‘done the right thing, honourable man’ narrative. Personally, I honestly don't blame him, but that doesn’t mean the board are to blame, Football is a ruthless profession and he’s worked harder than most to get where he is and he’s entitled to grasp any opportunity he can whilst his stock is still high. For that reason, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in the dugout at Celtic Park before next weekend and to be joined by John Lundstram in the summer (Who everyone thinks is a mercenary)

Past experience makes me tremor when I imagine who will be the next appointment, but the current board are an unknown in that department and I think the supporters should be behind them, instead of going along with the tired old diatribe of automatically blaming them, before anyone knows anything of the circumstances? To their credit they kept faith with Wilder, despite this seasons performances, I think they’ve earned the supporters backing, for now at least?

For us oldies, nothing in the modern game is as good as the good old days. Except that the Wilder years have probably been the best since I started at the Lane in 1953. Promotion; established in Championship; promotion; 9th in Premier League. All this on little money, re-building the club from a low ebb, playing exciting football, and creating a great unity with players, fans, staff, etc. One bad season in the bizarre circumstances of a pandemic is not enough to counterbalance 4 great seasons. I had thought the Wilder/Knill era was going to last long enough for them to create a great legacy; there is a danger now that they will have created only great memories.
As ever, we will support whoever comes in; they have one tough act to follow. This is a sad and worrying day.

Potentially a Wilderless wilderness for god knows how long again........ hopefully not.
I really don't know who I'd like to come in who I think could get us challenging.

Think this is the time where we should listen to the old timers. They all say about best years for decades etc. That's not just rose tinted glasses that's just them knowing from following is for so long how rare it is to have what we had last 4 seasons. More than likely these years will be the best most of us ever see. We've chucked it away after the most unusual season ever.
 
It’s been one hell of a journey and I’m gutted it’s ended the way it has.
A year ago I was saying he would leave us as an established club in the Prem, with improved facilities across the board.

Covid, injuries, poor signings and his refusal to change anything this season has cost him. If he was the same manager than got us here - fired up, full of optimism and belief that we belonged here and was playing attractive attacking football I would still have been behind him. I think it’s the right time for him to leave, it should have been sooner when we had a chance of survival IMO. I’ll get shot down for that by some on here, but that’s my opinion on it.

Thanks for the good times and memories - too many to mention.
 
Thank you Chris for all you have achieved.I am very saddened by your departure.
For the sake of the club I only hope Eddie Howe is the new manager,like Chris a principled man.

The on field success and the way we played not only pulled the crowds in, but put huge smiles on people’s faces. Kids all over Sheffield supporting the Blades and another opportunity be permanent top dogs in the city. And yet again it all comes crashing down around us. Get fucking cricket back, give us a chance.
 
"Thank you" doesn't even come close. He transformed the club from top to bottom and turned it's fortunes 180˚.

It's a shame that things have ended like this, and whilst has to hold his hands up for some of it this season, it's also been a perfect storm of other factors.

Still, me and my young un will be talking about the highs of 4 glorious seasons for much much longer than we will about what has gone wrong recently.

Time for the next chapter (sadly) and for the Prince to step up. This is a huge moment for him, and his future relationship with the fanbase.

Wilder is forged forever in all of our hearts. And for those of us who were there to see it in the flesh, we'll never forget this..............







 
I'd always wondered how I'd feel if this ever happened and now I know. I feel empty and a bit lost and a bit angry. It just seems that as soon as something good starts to happen, we always seem to have the finger on that self destruct button. I don't know the whys or the whats about how this has all panned out this morning but whatever has happened, Chris Wilder and Alan Knill have given me the best time I've ever had as a Blade. I thought nothing was ever going to surpass 89-90 under Bassett because that was such a great season,but they have given me much more than that, much much more and I'll be eternally grateful to them for giving us that pride in the club I think we'd lost under the previous regimes.
So I wish them both all the luck in the world because they gave us an hell of a ride and it was nice while it lasted.

Wish I could be there at the next home game to belt out “There’s only one chrissy wilder” with the rest of the kop in the direction of the directors boxes.

Didn't know it was Knilly's but yes, he did. Also tried to get it on top of the Genting casino too. Much to the annoyance of the management in there. It took a few attempts, with supporters passing it back to him, but he nailed it eventually. 😂
 
I'm really amazed that people are saying send for Warnock, yes he took us up but the following season was just his personal ride to glory, in addition he was never out of the offices of the game for bringing game into disrepute. In addition I've still not found out who nicked his eyebrows.

He opened his mouth and his brains fell out, I don't remember exact words but when we lost 3-0 at Chelsea his retort was do you mind I'm going to/or been to the theatre with my family to see a wonderful show. He also gave us the debacle that occurred at Villa Park when a point would have gone a long way to keeping us up, before we played Wigan.

Absolutely gutted
Everybody knows I can't bear to watch clueless hoofball but Wilder was never like this before.

This method of playing always signifies something is majorly wrong at the club, it happened under Wilson, good football first year, hoofball the second season when he wasn't backed.

Nigel Clough the same, good football first year, directionless hoof the second.

It always signifies that there is something more destructive going behind the scenes.

I can't even begin to wonder who we'll get next, I can't even hope for somebody because my hopes will be several places higher than this clubs.

What a bunch of fucking idiots
