He's tenure is a period none of us will ever forget. We had such a great run playing the most exciting football I've seen in my lifetime. Obviously the last year has been been fairly awful and it would seem that he's not prepared to fall into the United World structure.

I suspect this will either go well or very badly. The latter is more likely.

Not all on the Prince IMO. He’s given Chris money, albeit not a huge wage budget, and signings haven’t worked out. No doubt injuries and the lack of fans have played a huge part in our season but ultimately we just haven’t been good enough. He clearly isn’t open to the idea of a DoF, something pretty much all other clubs have, and he’s gone. Sad day but we move on.

Unreal times and he genuinely made us a mainstream club across the world.

I PRAY for a Norwich type situation next season but it stinks of Huddersfield and Stoke. I don't even think that's being cynical, atm it feels like we're in the middle of a Huddersfield Mk II cycle.

You could argue he is lucky the prince has been patient with him as other clubs would have sacked him before Xmas.

But why wait till we are relegated and then sack him? Makes no sense. He's got to have walked.

I'm gutted, but, I had a feeling this was coming after the press conference he gave after the last match, I don't know who's instigated this but to do it now doesn't seem as though it's the prince, you either get rid at Christmas or you carry on into next season. Maybe Chris thought that even though he was pissed off he could turn it around, it just feels odd.

The best thing about the past 5 years hasn’t been the results. He’s brought the fans and players together like nobody else in my lifetime. I hope we don’t lose our identity again.

For us oldies, nothing in the modern game is as good as the good old days. Except that the Wilder years have probably been the best since I started at the Lane in 1953. Promotion; established in Championship; promotion; 9th in Premier League. All this on little money, re-building the club from a low ebb, playing exciting football, and creating a great unity with players, fans, staff, etc. One bad season in the bizarre circumstances of a pandemic is not enough to counterbalance 4 great seasons. I had thought the Wilder/Knill era was going to last long enough for them to create a great legacy; there is a danger now that they will have created only great memories.
As ever, we will support whoever comes in; they have one tough act to follow. This is a sad and worrying day.

Wow! Didn’t see this coming at this present time. Thank you Chris Wilder indeed! In my short history of posts, I have consistently maintained the stance that this season is a one off without the fans in grounds. Yes, the outcome of an incredibly poor season is a reality in terms of relegation, but making critical decisions at this time when the environment is so false seems foolish.

If there is a quality manager coming in immediately with 10 games to assess the squad and they are fully backed to have a terrific pre-season, then there might be some, just a little mitigation. But honestly, if you now take a look at the bookies list of possibilities and put the name Chris Wilder with them who would you choose?

What the board do now is critical to the long term future of this club. If they are capable of finding a manager or developing an infrastructure to better getting League One footballers playing such beautiful and effective football that it takes the fans on a magnificent journey to even dream of European football then I will concede that this was a correct outcome. Sadly I don’t think they are.

it does not matter that the scenario could be that Chris has walked either. This is not the time for making critical devisions, if there was a disagreement, the board should have compromised to give him next year in the Championship.

Yes of course, I will still be supporting my beloved Blades. So beloved that I remember being nearly in tears watching them win in the last few minutes at Leeds (David Brookes goal IIRC) so wonderful was the football we played. Thank you Chris!
