Baffled me that it took so long for him to be rumbled. He owed an awful lot to Maguire and Collins as a CB partnership protecting him.

Ultimately comes down to the manager though and for the last 3 years, the managers have been absolute clowns.

I agree with that,but the club employ specialist coaches. A blind man on a galloping horse could see Long lacked communication skills,positional sense,command of his area and organising his defence. It was a disgrace that
Adkins as a former keeper couldn`t see the obvious need for a replacement,but as pointed out above,coaching staff heads should roll over Long.

In my case, I only wanted Long back in because Howard was even worse, and I think Long was an improvement on old chocolate hands.

Unfortunately, it was a bit like saying Sammon was an improvement on Higdon, when neither were good enough.

Seen the highlights, if we had Long or Howard in goal we lose 3-1 simple as that. Not one to go mad on one day but I really do hope that we've seen so far is going to continue and it turns out we've got a decent Keeper finally.

Even worse Adkins started with Long and dropped him immediately as he realised he cost us the game at Gillingham and simply wasn't competent , to then drop Howard and play him for half a season was rank bad management.

I believe you have to question our Goalkeeping Coach Darren Ward -He has overseen George Longs' career to date firstly at the Academy for one year and the last four years plus as Chief Goalkeeper Coach !
Not sure what goes on at the training ground but Long has been making the same mistakes over and over again despite 100+ senior appearances

You can talk about the coaching staff as much as you like (and there may be some merit in it) but the truth is he is a very poor goalkeeper, lacking all the basic essentials of the trade. He's going nowhere in football but down.

I think it goes deeper than GK coaching SBT. One thing that got on my tits was fans in the ground saying "he's only young". Boiled my piss that. He had enough competitive games under his belt to at least get the very basics right.

We have a great history of keepers in my lifetime including Hodgy, Hope (in the promotion season '71) Tracey, Kelly Rees, and to a lesser extent Kenny so we are not that used to sub standard keepers -but unfortunately I fear George Long has much to do to even make it as a regular in a a Division Four team !
