Why sack Wilder now when the season can’t be saved? He is the surest option to get us promoted again when we go down. IMO there’s no point throwing away the hard work over the past 4 years and it might take us a couple of times to stick in the prem. just my thoughts.

What would your 10 year strategy be?

I agree its too late for anyone else to save us.

I hope you are right.
But how confident can we be that CW can simply put this God awful season behind him and carry on as so many believe he can and have a great and successful season next year. All
He must end up battered and bruised with his self confidence fucked. How can he shrug it all off.
His failings are there for everyone to see.

I think we’re already 4/5 years into the strategy which started when wilder came in. We’ve stopped selling our best players, recruited well for promotion (badly for survival I admit). I think it’s working as we’ve had a great amount of success.

Concern now is Wilder will walk while the squad and morale is a mess. He has too much self respect to carry on so badly for the remainder of the season.

Sometimes players and managers need a fresh start.

I’d love Wilder to re-energise this team and finish on a high going into next season, but he looks completely deflated and so do the players
Agree the longer this goes on the more it starts to impact next season

The most sensible post on this board for months.

It has always been my belief that CWAK are here for the long haul. We need to be establishing a club (and the emphasis on 'club') rather than just a team that will be far better in the next 6 years than many of us on here have ever experienced.

'Sometimes managers need a fresh start'. This is something we've been living with for decades.

For once let's hold our nerve and do something different.

The general thinking this season has been "Don't sack Wilder - he's the best man to get us promoted from the Championship".
This was my feeling for a time, but I have to admit my faith in CW has been sorely tested in recent weeks.
If the losing streak continues to the end of the season there is every chance we'll exit the Championship by the trap door and end up in Division 1 again.
We need a miracle...

Fine in principle, but doing 'something different' is looking like relegation on a single digit points tally, something that has never happened before and which will hang over the players, manager and club for, well, forever really. The long term damage to reputations and future careers can't be understated and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these lads never want to step foot onto a football pitch again by the end of the season.

There's a few things we need to do which will take some time.

- We need to pay off the mortgage on the ground etc. I believe the parachute payments are reserved for this, which means we'll need to do some good wheeler-dealing in the recruitment department after we're relegated to remain competitive/push for promotion. Once that's paid off we'll be somewhat less shackled financially

- Speaking of wheeler-dealing, Wilder will have some big decisions to make regarding some of the lads who have now been here a while and have been found wanting at the top level this year. Decisions on the likes of Stevens, Sharp, Basham and Fleck. I loathe to mention Bash because he's been one of the few who will come out of this season with some credibility, but he's not getting any younger and we don't have anyone pushing for his place at present. If his legs start to go midway through the season, we need to be prepared for it.

- We need to get a good understanding of the lay of the land regarding player recruitment in a post-Brexit landscape. We will obviously want to recruit from abroad at times as we have done already, but this is about to become a lot more difficult if you're not signing big names and top talents. This will be where 'United World' comes in, as I believe it'll be easier to shift players between sister clubs than to sign them outright from the continent. Beerschot are well-placed in this regard, but what are the plans for Al-Hilal United and Kerala United?

- We need to work towards a Cat. 1 academy, as Wilder has pointed out before. Again, takes time and a lot of investment. There might be a decision to be made as to whether we push for this and spend less on player recruitment, or focus on improving the first team whilst putting the academy on the back-burner. Fully depends on what sort of budget we're looking at.

- GET FANS BACK IN. It can't be overstated how badly we've suffered from not having us lot in the ground. In a way, I sort of hope we're not allowed back in for the remainder of this season as it could well be a very toxic atmosphere and it won't stand us in good stead for next season Accept what's happened, move on, start the next season with a clean slate and some new faces. It's mental to think that there'll be players who will have been here a year who we've never seen play in the flesh. This is obviously more short-term in the sense that it'll happen within the next year, but the boost to the coffers will be needed over time.

- We need to accept that the Kop pillars are likely to be there for quite a while longer 😂 In fact, considering all the challenges outlined above, I think all stadium improvements need fucking off for the foreseeable. They're not important for now.

- After a few years, wherever we find ourselves, the Prince needs to have a hard look at whether he's got the dosh to seriously take us forward. We've spent a fair bit of money for us, but we don't have the deep pockets required to build some proper squad depth. Jack O'Connell is a prime example here. The drop in quality between him and Jack Robinson is huge. You need that backing to build a squad where if someone ends up injured, you've got at least one decent replacement in each department. Keeping good players happy is a very hard thing to do, but I'm sure being well-paid helps a bit (the 'wage structure' may also need looking at).

Wilder isn't Wilder anymore, the one we have now is a different bloke.

It can't be explained any other way.

Yep, his mindset is completely different.
He's gone from "come and have a go" to "we can't go toe to toe in this league".

It's like having Nigel Clough again. The fact that he hasn't got a single attacking midfielder in the squad says it all.

Agree 100%, but your theory doesn't fit the agendas of a vocal minority on social media.

If the same vocal minority had it's way when Nigel Clough returned to BL then he would have been met with a lynching party. Except the greater silent majority gave him generous applause.

Is he un-sackable? No - but he and his team is good enough to be allowed a 2nd crack. Burnley did it and to a Hull did it too and may still be in this league had Allam not wanted to rename the club Hull Tigers.
