There is a lot of discussion about team personnel and attributes, but for me the biggest difference from the start of this season compared to last season is tempo.
We just don't seem to be at it.
Is it a deliberate tactical decision or just fatigue, laziness, ambivalence setting in?

We were a hard pressing team, outworking our opponents and this made up for inferior quality - if we can't replace this then we are already a good few points down from last season.

So for me, never mind the players or tactics - it's the application that may have a greater influence.

If you feel comfortable you relax - sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
Chris and Alan certainly need to address the application.

There's been an odd lack of desire and determination thus far. Like we're doing a job and trying to do it well but if it's not going for us then it's just a job.

I thought Fulham signed Tempo from Sporting Lisbon and immediately sent him to Kaiserslautern on a season long loan

I don't know what the reason is, but agree that our urgency, tempo, pressing (however you want to describe it) is missing.

Is morale low, are we unfit, is it the heat? I really don't know why.

But our tempo and pressing game is an important element in how we play. And it seems to have gone AWOL.

No team with Evans and Lundstram in central midfield and Clarke and McGoldrick up front is going to be energetic.

Duffy, Fleck, Jack and Coutts decide the tempo.
Duffy is on the bench, Fleck is less Influential on the left, Coutts is missing (though in defence of him Lundstram really tried to build up tempo when he first came in to cover for Paul) and Jack is out of form and losing confidence, with a wingback in front of him with a similar problem.

The loss of Coutts was key. With the Holy Trinity in midfield, we moved the ball at a rapid pace. Lundstram slows that down. This gives teams a chance to reset constantly.

Listening to cw the other day and he was on about what the opposition has to offer, maybe that's what's happening, last season it seemed let the opposition worry about us and let's go for it. Maybe that's where our tempo has gone.

Agree.

Although the be fair Swansea also played with a slow tempo on Saturday.
The match reminded me of a pre-season friendly. The Swansea match was a bit like watching an average Spanish La Liga game.
Some neat build up play, shot passes keeping possession but no urgency from either team.

Maybe it was the hot weather that made both teams look lethargic.

At times last season we played like headless chickens and I think he’s trying to address this but we’ve gone too far the other way.

I agree that since losing Coutts we haven't moved the ball as quickly or effectively. However, last season we still pressed the opposition when we were out of possession But that is only part of the problem. This season we don't seem to be doing that.

Sold it to Norwich for an undisclosed fee.

I read heard in an interview that this season CW had decided to use the press just at certain points rather than constantly like during the last 2 seasons.

In my view this doesn't suit us and a Swansea post match tactical analyst posted that they thought it was handing them an advantage.
