I’ll be honest, how is 4-2-2-2 supposed to work?
On the face of it, we squeeze in O’Hare and Hamer together, which I like. I suppose it’s like 4-2-3-1 but it feels like you squeeze the field even more. In 3-5-2 you have that extra midfielder who can slide across so your wing backs are not so exposed.
I like 4-2-3-1 and Hamer and O’Hare together plus AN Other, which after this match, for me, would be Ogbene. I like 3-4-2-1 which allows O’Hare and Hamer or Ogbene and Hamer. I heard a few groan from his Ipswich days when Ogbene was used as a wong back.
It just feels with 4-2-2-2 that you lose a bit of cover either deeper, as you don’t have that extra defender or wider as you don’t have that extra midfield body.
Just curious how it doesn’t simply scream “attack me down the flanks”.
