Godfrey, peck, soumare, burrows
Hamer
Campbell, Ings
You might be right. Good call. However....Selles probably won't see sense. Just hope whoever starts puts in a shift and we have got a system that the boys can play to. Holding my breath

That's my team but I dropped Peck for Matos.
And, thats only out of optimism and frustration. Id take last seasons Peck all day in your lineup.

Coops
Godfrey Tanganga Mcguiness Burrows

Chong Soumare Matos

Hamer

Ings Campbell

Ideally I would probably have Chong for Brooks but as he's coming back from international duty I'd start with Brooks.

This way we have a solid defence with a strong defensive midfielder and we get Gus giving us a threat but not unbalancing our midfield.

If we need more in midfield McGuinness or Mee could come out and add a another body in the middle.

I no longer suggest line ups where the formation differs from the manager's preference. But he's admitted it's something they consider now with the new signings. However, the above is a suggestion with the same formation, but a much stronger midfield.

I expect us to have less possession than normal tonight and we need a line up and shape that can deal with that.

COOPER
TANGANGA - McGUINNESS - MEE
GODFREY - PECK - MATOS - BURROWS
HAMER
INGS - CAMPBELL
That's the formation I'll be looking for. 3 at the back allows the middle 2/3 to be more forward minded and hopefully more creative.

No, he joined us two seasons later, the scorers were Woodward 4 (1pen), Reece, Dearden and Badger.
Well just shows the old memory box isn't what it was😁
Thanks for correcting me Silent.

How many have netted four in one game since I wonder🤔.

Gunna search both games on you tube.Particularly for Badger's goal. They were rare🙏

Keith Edwards did it twice in 1983-84 season and Leon Clarke did it against Hull in November 2017.

Only two of the 7 goals against Ipswich are in YouTube. Woody's 3rd and 4th . Start from 16 minutes 7 secs

Odds must have been pretty astronomical on neither of these sides having won a game yet.

Double pivot is a must for this game. If Selles still insists on Peck as the lone 6 with Hamer and O'Hare in front of him then he deserves to get sacked.

Would love to see a 4-2-2-2 because I believe this is a game where we'll more rely on counter attacking.

-------------- Cooper ----------------
Godfrey - Tanganga - Mee - Burrows
----------- Peck -- Soumare
----- O'Hare ----------- Hamer------
------ Cannon(Ings) - Campbell-----
I’ll be honest, how is 4-2-2-2 supposed to work?

On the face of it, we squeeze in O’Hare and Hamer together, which I like. I suppose it’s like 4-2-3-1 but it feels like you squeeze the field even more. In 3-5-2 you have that extra midfielder who can slide across so your wing backs are not so exposed.

I like 4-2-3-1 and Hamer and O’Hare together plus AN Other, which after this match, for me, would be Ogbene. I like 3-4-2-1 which allows O’Hare and Hamer or Ogbene and Hamer. I heard a few groan from his Ipswich days when Ogbene was used as a wong back.

It just feels with 4-2-2-2 that you lose a bit of cover either deeper, as you don’t have that extra defender or wider as you don’t have that extra midfield body.

Just curious how it doesn’t simply scream “attack me down the flanks”.

Yeah, good point about missing some cover on the flanks. Then again, Hamer (as well as JRS) didn't really offer a lot of defensive cover last season either.
I guess in theory the two defensive midfielders would have to cover more ground, but that might be asked too much of them when there's a lot of pressure.

My idea was that with this formation you would get the best out of Hamer especially, but O'Hare as well. Gives Hamer the opportunity to roam on the left and cut inside with Burrows overlapping.
The two strikers simply for more goal threat in the box.

3-5-2 would be an interesting alternative. We have the numbers in defence now for that.
