Henderson
Baldock Basham Egan O’Connell Stevens

Fleck Evans
Duffy
McGoldrick Sharp

The good thing is all the teams posted look ok and so does the bench, the difference in the choices of player are very close so it really is a personal preference, for my two penneth I would always want Duffy to start, when we were at our best last season he (and fleck/coutts) were in the starting 11, it's going to be hot on Saturday so lets bring Woodburn on for Duffy later on and let him loose against a hopefully tiring defence , and possibly the new lad from City as a wing back? Whatever it does look promising

This is the main thing for me. Our bench was shocking last season apart from Brooks in terms of making a difference. Now we've got options (before any injuries and suspensions obvs)

We just need another striker over the line and then I think we're set.

Preferably:
Young
Pace
Black
STARVING

- - - - - - - - - - - - - Henderson

- - - - - - -Basham - - Egan - - O'Connell

Baldock - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stevens

- - - - - - - - - - Evans - - - - - - - Fleck

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Duffy

- - - - - - - - -McGoldrick - - - - -Clarke

Subs: Moore, Stearman, Freeman, Leonard, Lundstram, Woodburn, Sharp

That's what I'd go with. But I think Wilder will go with Lundstram instead of Duffy, like against Inter. Having McGoldrick up front more allows for that midfield setup because he'll often drop deeper into the Duffy area to link the play.

This should undoubtedly be the team. I think we'll easily boss Swansea in midfield. Playing 3 CMs instead of an AM will stop them doing anything but we'll struggle to create. We need to go for them.

Oh it'd definitely be odd mate, no two ways about that...

Four pages and not a single suggestion that we should play with a back four , like the vast majority of all those crap teams across the whole of Europe who won their domestic competitions and the winners of the European Championship and the World Cup.

......................Henderson....................
Basham. Stearman. Egan. O' Connell
...... Freeman. Fleck. Brian ...........
....................Duffy ...................
...........Clarke.......Sharp...........
with Woodburn and McGoldric replacing Duffy and Sharp when we're already 2-0 up .

Cue the cries of " but Bash and JOC aren't full backs, they're centre backs", nonchalantly overlooking the fact that they play the majority of most games in the full back positions whilst our dynamic wing backs go 'bombing forward'
usually to no effect whatsoever.

You wouldn’t be nonchalantly overlooking the fact that Bash is a dodgy defender who routinely loses his man, gets turned inside out by any player with a trick and gives away daft free-kicks on the edge of the box with alarming regularity?

No I wouldn't, nor am I overlooking the fact that he was rated on here as being our best defender in a significant number of games . Or the fact that CW has described him as " his rock "

Must be a fool , that Wilder .

Thought we'd stopped trying to pug square pegs in round holes!?

What's this Bryan lad done to justify jumping straight into centre mid?

Freeman Centre Mid?

Be putting Billy in goal next.

Moore
Basham Egan O’Connell
Freeman Stevens
Evans
Lundstram Fleck
Woodburn

Clarke

Woodburn as a striker off Clarke but dropping in when defending.

Lundstram and Fleck box to box.

Maybe a bit defensive without 2 out an out strikers but quality in midfield and able to make plenty of chances.

Bench: Henderson, Stearman, Baldock, Bryan, Duffy, McGoldrick, Sharp

You mean like playing dodgy full backs as wingers / dodgy fullbacks ?

I didn't have either Bryan or Freeman at centre mid , I have Fleck there .

The former says he really likes playing there , but maybe he doesn't know a square peg from a round one .

I’m sure posted already but I’d go:

Henderson
Basham Egan O’Connell
Freeman Evans Fleck Stevens
Duffy
Sharp Clarke

Subs: Moore, Baldock, Stearman, Leonard, Lundstram, Woodburn, McGoldrick

Front three a bit interchangeable but something doesn’t sit right not giving Billy first knock or starting with Duffy.

2-1, late sensational winner by Woodburn.

I’d then bring in Strarman for Basham, Woodburn for Sharp and possibly Lundstram for Duffy for Boro away.

So what positions are bryan and freeman playing then in your diagram? Midfield Assisters?

Our best back 4 would be...

Baldock Egan O'Connell Stevens

No way can you play O'Connell, one of our best players, out of position. LCB is perfect for him.

Of course the one defender in our squad who does not 'routinely lose his man' is the best reader of the game we have had for many years. He is not the most mobile but knows this and plays accordingly. He has stepped up to La Liga for the first time in his career, but still does not look out of place.

His name is of course Jake Wright, or the far more hilarious 'Shakey Jakey' and of course you don't like him etiher.

Taking out the muck an nettles / gerit forrard / S2 hoofer / kick it high, kick it hard, kick it long players, I assume you'd only be happy with a back 3 of Beckenbauer, Moore and Baresi.

Sadly they are all retired or dead, so you will have to put up with the hard working and able lads we have, and stop whining.

Sure I heard CW say we aren't going to change the way we play,so can't see us playing a 4 unless we have to change during the game..which has happened on occasions last season.
I think we'll see...
Henderson
Bash,Egan,O'Connell
Baldock,Evans,Fleck,Enda
Duffy
Clarke,McGoldrick

Good shout. That would be my line up as well, with the kid from Man City on the bench maybe.

This, but get Duffs on for Evans for the triangle of Dooooooom!

I think it's just a question of terminology.

I a midfield line up which I would describe as right mid , centre mid and left mid . I suspect that your terminology would differ from that .

I have to admit that choosing Bryan is a bit of a hunch based on certain things I've picked up but my instinct tells me he could be very effective there .

All a matter of opinion of course , but personally , I don't rate Baldock's defensive qualities as being any higher than fair to moderate and the same goes for Stevens .

O'Connell is described in Wikapedia as a ' Left centre back and full back ' . I believe he has all the attributes to make an outstanding job of the latter and become even more highly rated than he is now .

Can't wait for the first game of the season at Bramhall Lane. I think Sheffield should line up like this:

- - - - - - - - - - - - Moar

- - - - - - -Bashem - - Eagen - - Brian

Bolduck - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stephens

- - - - - - -- - Lundstrom- - - - - - - Evens

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - MacGoldrick

- - - - - - - - -Sharpe- - ------- - -Clark
