Saturday 29th August. Swindon Town 0 Sheffield United 2
http://www.sufc.co.uk/fixtures-results/match-report/index.aspx?matchid=3832909
<< The Blades made it four wins on the bounce in Sky Bet League One with a thoroughly professional display against Swindon Town >>
This was the last time that we looked like getting promotion.
Nigel Adkins was a confident manager, playing his preferred attacking style of football.
We had come through pre-season unbeaten in six matches.
We had put the shock opening day defeat to Gillingham behind us and were powering up the table.
The Blades Team that day:-
__________Howard
Freeman Collins Edgar McCeveley
JCR___Basham__Reed__ Adams
_______Sharp Sammon
With the exception of Freeman, all those players are currently fit and available to him.
It's an attacking 4-4-2 line up with the traditional big man/poacher partnership up front.
Two skilful and fairly pacey, attacking wide players.
Two hard working and mobile central midfielders.
A decent amount of height in the side with 5 six-footers but not sacrificing all creativity to compensate.
If Adkins is to keep his job into next season, he has to go back to basics and regain our trust.
He has to back himself and his preferred methods. Attack, create, excite, score and win.
I'm not saying that he has to pick exactly the same team as Long for one doesn't deserve to be dropped.
But the basic attack-minded template is there and it was getting him consistently, good results early on.
I would like to see him go with:-
______________Long______________
Brayford__Baptiste__Edgar__McCeveley
JCR_______Basham__Reed____Adams
__________Sharp__Sammon_________
Or at very least back his attacking instincts. Pick one formation and stick with it!
