We'll have less excuses next week about being depleted.

The only decision to make for me is who plays in the middle of the back 3, which I could go either way with. No doubts in my mind whatsoever about the other 10 selections.

No he got a 3 game ban.

I'd go with that defence, although with Basham at the back, it leaves a slot in midfield. I'd just throw Slater in rather than playing Duffy or Carruthers deeper or using Lafferty there, he may be inexperienced and it might be the Bladey thing to do, but it's a round peg in a round hole.

There's an argument for leaving Sharp out, but I'm not sure Brooks' effort as a sub against Bristol City really gives him much claim to the shirt either.

3 game ban as far as I know? He will be missing until after Boxing Day (and Boxing Day may be a much tougher game than some people think)

Brain fart. 3 game ban isn't it. FFS, I was fancying our chances then for a minute. Carruthers in for Fleck then (and an excellent opportunity for him in that position).

Don't want to see Basham and Lundstram together in midfield again.

And another edit, Slater in for Carruthers on the bench. Unless we can clone Carruthers.

If I've fucked anything else up there I give up and that's me done.

Realistic

Moore
Stearman Wright O'Connell
Baldock Stevens
Basham Lundstram
Duffy
Brooks
Clarke

Mixing it up

Moore
CCV Stearman Wright O'Connell
Basham
Slater Lundstram
Duffy Brooks
Clarke

I’d Stearman has to play, and it looks like he will, I would switch to a back four. May even push JOC to left back as Stevens seems to have lost the plot recently.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilder mix it up a bit considering the circumstances.

Some player is Carruthers plays from the start and still has the energy for a place on the bench too

Quite happy to accept that - just get Stearman out of "controlling" the back 3.

This is more like a team that went to S6, only had 38% of possession but used that possession to great effect.

We need to be more solid, not lose but still have the ability to win a game of football.

Wouldn't mind this until Fleck becomes available again.

I'd be tempted to try something completely different, given the form of the wingbacks.

----------------Moore
CCV---Stearman---Wright----JoC
---------------Basham
--------Slater------Lundstram
----------Duffy--Brooks
--------------Clarke

Give both Brooks and Duffy free role and expect them to push up as wide attacking players when we have the ball to give us width. Drop back into midfield when defending. Break with pace. Lundstram to drop back when defence have the ball to collect and move us upfield.

Think we played 2 no 10's v Norwich when Ched played injured up top and it didn't really work - but away from home it's how a number set up. Hasn't CW said he is for now, wedded to the 3-5-2 type of formation though?

Just think we need to be solid and it reminds me of early last season when we were bottom - we just became solid and unbeatable, grew in confidence then opened up a bit.

Think I'd take the 1st option - it's got a solid core with the ability to break.

A bit of rotation is likely over Christmas, so we might go with Clarke and Sharp against Villa, Donaldson and Brooks against Sunderland and Clarke and whoever performed best against Bolton. Whichever of Wright or Stearman plays against Villa is unlikely to play all three games, and Duffy probably won't start all three even if he's fit given how Wilder usually uses him. Among all that hopefully the team stays as stable as possible, not Basham playing all three in different positions.

Not sure if a full debut for Slater would be wise. Been here with Reed getting too much to soon. Although having watched Slater for many years he would certainly not let himself down.

I'd play Slater ahead of Carruthers, although he's 18 years old, he always plays with energy, enthusiasm and determination, which might hopefully inspire his more senior colleagues to raise their game to similar levels.

Whilst, at the same time, providing Carruthers with the kick up the arse that he so clearly requires :)

Wright, JOC and Basham at the back, midfield we don't have much choice but would be good if Lundstram and Carruthers put a decent shift in. Up front I agree with Brooks and Clarke as we need to play on the counter more so Brooks is an outlet.

Moore

Baldock Lundstram Carruthers Lafferty
Duffy Brooks

With Duffy or Brooks slotting in to stiffen the midfield whenever necessary, while the other supports Leon.

I'd like to see how we do with a 4-5-1 formation

Moore

Baldock O'Connell Stearman Stevens

Lundstram Basham

Brooks Duffy Carruthers

Clarke

Might be quite negative but two deep midfielders takes the pressure off both Lundstram and Basham to be a Coutts or Fleck.

Three attacking midfielders to just free roam and Clarke be Clarke.

At this moment in time we need to do the basics and focus on getting a result. Once we're through this sticky period, then we can go back to full throttle.

Didn’t see it yesterday but it sounded like Bash and Lundstrum just didn’t work together.
