Zero points obviously. But as GreasyChipBeattie says, the ratings should be a lot higher. Even by watching Sky Sports and C5's shitty highlights, they only show 1 Bolton bit and that's the goal. Blades had 2 flashed across the goal line, Clarke should've scored with his header, Done should have too. Sharp also didn't look to be offside. If that goal had stood i'm pretty sure none of those ratings above would be below 6.

What rating would you give Mark Howard? Serious question.

You must have watched a different game to me as I thought Basham was Utd's best player yesterday, narrowly ahead of O'Connell and Wilson. Don't forget that he and Fleck were outnumbered in central midfield and for the most part it didn't show

Apart from a lively first 20 mins I thought Duffy was poor and was quite rightly taken off.

Whilst he's blameless for the goal, I thought Long was awful. He simply doesn't command his area, instill confidence with his defence and makes far too many wrong decisions.

Individual performances aside, the biggest problem yesterday was playing far too many direct balls up to Clarke, thereby bypassing Fleck and the two wide men, who was fouled almost every time and lacked support when he did win the first ball - exactly what Bolton would have wanted. Utd looked far more dangerous when they played through midfield but were let down by poor delivery into the box.

All in all, whilst the result was disappointing, I saw enough to give hope for the rest of the season and the addition of 3-4 new recruits will certainly aid this.

Most pleasing, and a step change from Adkins' post match assessments, was to that, with the exception of the GK issue, Wilder has identified the same problems. Let's hope that Long's limitations are realised very soon otherwise he'll cost the side plenty of goals and points.

6 had zero to do didn't need to make a save other than tip Done's effort. Pretty much the same for Long but watched him flapp at two routine crosses which on another day could have been costly.
P.s looking at highlights Clarke should have scored two.

No it isn't but I guess you read what you want from these things.

I look at the stats and they tell me we have the same problem we have had the past few seasons. No creativity. I'm also sensible enough to know it is one game and if we win the next one some people will be wanking into a cup. There will be a "where are the doom merchants now" thread. Somewhere in the middle of this lies the truth. Sticking your fingers in your ears and pretending there are no improvements needed doesn't change that.

I'd rather take the view that "a team that is a work in progress narrowly lost to a team that more likely than not is going to be in the top two at the end of the season".

Disappointed obviously, but I always try to see how things are going to shape after 8-10 games. We reset and move on.

We nearly did with those two low crosses before they scored and Howard has always been poor in dealing with low crosses. In the 2nd half Bolton defended deeper and the full backs got closer to Duffy and Done making it hard for us to put in a dangerous cross
