I'll make a start:

Howard
Brayford, Basham, McEveley, Harris
Murphy

beyond that, who knows.

Given that we now have at least 18 players fighting for the remaining 12 spots (bearing in mind he has to pick defensive and keeper cover on the bench), if he goes with the new boys, I'm struggling to see how the likes of Davies, JCR and even Flynn, Baxter and Scoogs are going to fit in.

It's OK having basically 2 decent teams now and we will need to rotate with 2 games a week but there's going to be some old faithfuls such as those mentioned above who aren't going to make the matchday squad on Saturday.

My main worry is that Reed will get pushed aside because we have to build around him for this / next season IMO. Clough's job may be made a bit easier if we have a tough game tonight, extra time etc but he's given himself big headaches for the rest of the season by bringing in several players in similar positions.

Howard
Brayford Basham McCeveley Harris
JCR Reed Coutts Scougall Murphy
Done

Subs:- Turner, Kennedy, Flynn, Doyle, Baxter, Adams, McNulty

If there is one thing last Saturday proved to me it is that I am going to try to stop second guessing Nigel when it comes to team selections! I'm not even sure I can 100% say that will be our back four and 'keeper.

Agree with the sentiment though - a biq squad can be an advatage but he has a tough job of keeping some stability - I don't think we can make 10 changes every game and be successful.

Oh and my team would be

Howard, Brayford, McEverly, Basham, Harris, Flynn, Coutts, Reed, Scougall, Murphy, McNulty.
Bench: Turner, Done, Kennedy, JCR, Davies, Adams, Doyle

Talk about setting up to not win. I know it's only Gillingham but starting with 11 might help!!! :)

That's how good we are now - I want to give them a chance.

Amended as I missed Bash!

I'd play roughly the same team tonight but excluding cup-tied players.

Flynn for Brayford
Doyle for Coutts
McNulty for Done

Add Freeman, Davies, Holt and Higdon to the bench

Think Flynn is injured
Doyle for Reed

Howard
Beard mcEv Bash Harris
Reed Baxter coutts
Kwallace Done Che

Bench
Turner Kennedy murphy Doyle McNulty freeman

Think clough will use as much of his squad this week in both games.

Flynn will be rested for about two weeks after tonight ( according to clough after Saturday)

I find JCR exciting to watch, but Davies scores more goals, puts in a better final ball, has the deadball ability and links up well with the Beard. Finally, he can get "stuck -in" when we face dirty, cheating, street-wise, teams like Swindon.

I would bring JCR on to run at tired teams.

After watching tonight I would go with:
Howard
Brayford Kennedy McEverley Harris Flynn Coutts Doyle/Reed Done
Scougall
Murphy

Subs: Turner, Freeman, Basham, Reed/Doyle, Baxter, Campbell-Ryce, McNulty;

Howard
Brayford jmac bash Harris
Doyle
Flynn Baxter done
Murphy mcnulty

Goals goals goals

Che has done enough to deserve a start for me.

Above all we need a settled team, with at least nine getting picked on a regular basis

Agree Dkc. For the rest , perm any from 25 . Who knows . Lets hope Mr Clough does.o_O

One of the first names on my team sheet would be Kennedy. He has been outstanding and one of the few to attack the ball in defensive set pieces.

Worryingly none of our 4 new signings are what anybody would call good in the air. Done is 5'10". Brayford is average, Freeman not so good from memory. Coutts didn't show last Saturday.

Set pieces are a problem whichever team is picked and formation played.

Also, albeit based on one game, I thought Turner won more crosses than Howard ever has.

Listening to NC after the game, maybe the back 5 isn't as guaranteed as I thought.

As of today, I'd go for:

Howard
Brayford, Basham, Kennedy, Harris
Coutts, Doyle, Reed, Done
Murphy
McNulty

I'd like to fit Davies in, I think we miss his experience and ability from set pieces. whether he could play centrally for Doyle or maybe even on the left with Done and Murphy playing up top.

I think Baxter's time has probably come, undoubted ability but he just doesn't fit in. Scougs is probably also in danger.

If flynny is fit then I'd have him in for Adams. Not seen enough of Coutts yet to see if he could replace Doyle.

Would also keep inter-changing Done and Murphy

Almost the same as my team in the best XI thread but I'm leaning towards Kennedy to partner Basham following another penalty given away by McEveley (or "McPenalty" as moDtheGod described him last night)

Howard

Brayford Basham Kennedy Harris

Flynn* Reed Coutts** Baxter Murphy

Done

Subs: Turner, McPenalty, Davies*, Campbell-Ryce, Scougall, McNulty, Higdon

*assuming Flynn is fit. If not, Davies to right midfield with Doyle on the bench
**I think Clough will play Doyle from the start, particularly in an away game

I like the look of that. Wonder how that lot would have fared against Preston.

I would like to see Basham back in midfield with Coutts, especially away from home. Just add that little bit more physicality. But there aren't many options at back; McGahey not ready, and McEverley has looked unsteady at times.

With the three you have up top slug, which i like the look of,you could arguably have all 3 players having a free role aslong as the 3 behind are disciplined. Also,at the moment,i'd have Baxter in Doyles' role and Coutts in for Scoogs so we can get some attacking impetus into our game and push the whole side that bit further up the pitch.

I'd go for same team as that but start Coutts instead of Scougall.

Bench: Turner McEveley Davies Baxter Scougall McNulty Higdon

Yes i believe them 3 could comfortably move around and switch positions, causing the opposition serious problems and confusion!

My Team would be:

GK- Ian Turner-played well against Swindon, Mark isn't doing very well.
RB John Brayford (c) - key player, best player
CB Basham - Seems to be a key member of the defence
CB Kennedy- Mcevely needs a break
LB Harris - Either him or Freeman
Rm Murphy- Seems to do better playing on the right
Cm Baxter - plays better in a deeper role
Cm Reed - he is frankly better than Doyle
Lm Che Admas - needs a run of games
CAM - Scougall - I believe this is his best position
ST- Matt Done - I have a feeling he will start, also seemed to do well at Rochdale in the League. Additionally his height is desperately needed in attack because at the moment all crosses fail and we lose the ball from every goal kick.

Baxter is one of our best players, in the deeper role he picks out team mates and brings them into play, he is calm on the ball and rarely loses possession
