Reed has good technical ability and composure and is developing better defensive ability but still lacks technical consistency and needs to carry the ball forward when he has the chance, in addition to developing physically. If he gets enough game time he'll become a good player, like Long seems to be doing.

and we've got our 100% record to keep up against them. At least they ended a mini winless run last night against the might cods so that's one less thing to worry about.

--------------------Long
-------Basham Edgar McEverley
Brayford ----------------------- Done
------ Reed Coutts Cuvellier
----------- Sharp Adams
Looks alright to me with what we have available.
Width, plenty of energy and if the real Coutts turns up who knows

Have I missed something? Why is Hammond not in the team all of a sudden, I thought he has been playing reasonably well in recent weeks. Seems quite harsh to drop him just because we won a game. Perhaps Barney can explain what's going on here.

I agree with you completely, however isn't he suspended?

Suspended

Do a little research. He never played for England under 17's, just the under 18's and under 19's. How many times did you play for England at youth level? Clearly you were a much better prospect at 18 years of age.

He doesn’t claim to be better than Reed, just better than Calvert Lewin.

Barney I don't see how you can rule a 18 year old lad out by saying he is not good enough he is 18? And representing England? He has shown he has good skills and can pick a good pass out the Lad is still only young and will only grow with experience. I understand he is not the best finisher of the ball as he has shown the best example was donny where adams laid the ball off to reed instead of having a shot him self and Reed failed to score. But I am sure that will come in experience as well. Reed could grow into a good player and we will only know by letting him have a good run in games. For you to rule him out at 1 I years of age is ridiculous.
Has baxter been supplying you with what ever he is on?

Plenty had Long down for the bin as well despite his age and a few have written off DCL after his struggle at Bury. Adams has also had a lot of critics. Often, those who are so scathing about these kids are those call for us to “play the kids”. I think there needs to be an acceptance that there will be poor games and mistakes when playing teenagers. The important thing is that they learn from each and become better players. Because I don’t think we will make the playoffs anyway, I’m happy for us to be starting Reed and Adams (and maybe Wallace, even McGahey?) and be giving DCL (and maybe even DdG) some game time from the bench with a view to developing them further for next season when I hope we will have a smaller but better squad with these kids playing their part. I accept there will be some poor performances as a result.

Ps, has anyone else noticed a trend with young Reedy that he seems to perform quite well on Saturday afternoon games but seems to have stinkers on Tuesday nights (especially away from home)? Past his bedtime maybe?

You say you've seen him show ample signs of the attributes I've listed, I'll call you a liar.

Taking responsibility

Forward passes

Technique

Vision

I have seen all of those attributes in his game. What he lacks is pace, power, height etc. which will make it more difficult for him but he clearly has some of the attributes and has time on his side to develop some more like finishing, composure in the final third, decision making, strength etc. . The problem we have is that none of our midfield come close to having all the attributes of a good midfielder.

Clearly the coaching staff at BL and England have also seen something in him to make him our youngest ever player and to earn him England youth caps. He has shortcomings that may prevent him from making it but surely it’s worth giving potential every chance to succeed.

My team for Saturday would be:

--------------------------Long

-------------Collins----Edgar---McEveley

Brayford---------------Reed---------------Woolford

-------------------Basham---Flynn

-------------------Sharp---Adams

Subs:

Howard

K. Wallace

Coutts

Cuvelier

DCL

JCR

Done

Try to stay as close to the winning team as possible just replacing Hammond. Tempting to bring Coutts in for a straight swap but what sways it for me is Rochdale’s zonal marking and vulnerability on set pieces. It was something Adkins honed in on at the lane with Collins getting the winner from a set piece and think it’s something we could exploit again. Having Collins in the team gives us a better chance of exploiting that. However, going forward, something I’d like to see tried with a view to next season is:

-----------------------------Long

-------------McGahey—Edgar—Wallace

Brayford------------------Reed--------------------Done

-----------------------Coutts---Basham

-----------------------Sharp---Adams

More of that side is likely to be here next season. If McGahey is out of contract and going to be released then maybe drop Bash back and bring Hammond in.

You really are incessant about the "paying" thing aren't you? We all know you might pay a few quid every so often, you're keen to tell us of you're magnificently good deed at just about every opportunity you can. Any humble person might think about keeping it to themselves if and when they donate instead of shouting it down everyones throats wherever possible.

The "paying" thing you say? That's an unusual way of describing a donation.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have never, not once, declared on this board that I have made a donation. As you say, that would be a showy thing to do. You're assuming I have donated.

You on the other hand, have never, not once, declared on this board that you have made a donation, even when asked the simple question. You might be doing that out of humility. I'm assuming you haven't donated.

With players available, I'd start with;

-------------------------Long
-------------Edgar - Collins - McEveley
Brayford--------------------------------------Woolford
-----------------------Basham
--------------Coutts ----------- Reed
-------------------Sharp - Adams

I've had my run ins with him in the past but I'm going into bat a bit here for Barney.

I knew Hammond was coming up to ten bookings and a ban and I knew it was in the offing but I'll be honest, I wouldn't have realised he was banned after his booking Saturday until I read this - it was something that I think I read but had gone in one ear out the other - it's not like he's a key player we will desperately miss!

In terms of Reed - he may have represented England at Junior levels but how many players do that then end up playing semi pro or not at all - just because you are good in your peer group does not mean you can cut it in the game as that proves. Reid obviously has potential but some of his performances when he has played have been shocking - hence why he isn't in the team constantly.

Bit of friendly advice though Barn, even if you may not want it, if people pick you up on being wrong, probably best to just hold your hands up and laugh it off rather than going all defensive and counter punching with an attitude. I think it's that as much as anything that winds people right up. See your 'How dare you ban me' thread for a case in point.

I imagine it's more of a case of never admitting fault and always claiming to be right than anything else.

Alongside slagging off players he doesn't watch.

Could be wrong though...

Great thread.

My team for Saturday:

Hope*
Freeman Edgar Collins Harris
Baxter Hammond Dimalo Wallace (J)
Sharp (Obvs) McNulty

I'll let Mr Clough select his own subs.

* subjectv to late fitness test, if unfit then Budgie or Simmonsen

So

You haven't ever said you've donated.

I haven't ever said I've donated.

You're assuming I haven't donated. I'm assuming, because of the pestering, this is your way of letting everyone know of your magnificent deeds.

Shut up?

It will definitely be,

Long
Edgar Basham McEveley
Brayford Woolford
Flynn Coutts Reed
Adams Sharp

Same subs, maybe Collins replacing McGahey.

Making a donation isn't a magnificent deed ,its what normal people do to help facilitate something they are using.

As an aside ,I think everyone is putting a lot of faith in Cuvelier ,whats the difference between him and J Wallace ,for what its worth from what Ive seen ,Wallace is a better player. Maybe his friendship with Baxter is a factor with Wallace , but I really hope Cuvelier meets expectations.

No room again for Diego. What does the boy have to do?

He was all proud of himself such is his incessant need to bring up donations whenever he can.

You've scuppered his flow now.

Wasn't it more because you kept repeatedly telling the people who run this site how it should be run, what they should and shouldn't be doing and how terribly unfair they were being to you?

I think at this point someone stepped in and reminded you of how the site was run, and that it wasn't here to suit you, service you, work around you, or operate to your specific choosing.

Or was it a fair and correct observation? Are you actually aware of the specific situation and exactly what it is I was making the point about by the way? If yes, please proceed to tell. If not, maybe try not getting involved with things you know absolutely nothing about.

Your assumption is incorrect. I'm not trying to draw attention to anything I've done, I'm pointing out your unwillingness to accept any responsibility for the financial good health of the site. Chip in a few quid and I'll happily desist. As it stands, while you pontificate for free.......
