Team for next sunday

Gotta be honest I don't have a bloody clue what team he'll pick, or what team I'd pick, defence aside. I'm taking that as a reflection of our relative abundance of riches, so I'm comfortable with it.

And that Mark, seems to be the most sensible approach to this thread's question.

He’s not getting any younger, is he? Are you saying that if he’s ‘got the legs’ he starts every game? If so, I disagree. I see him as a very important impact sub, in the same manner as Kevin Phillips and even Trevor Francis in their latter years.

The crucial difference is that I don’t put a premium on a player because of where they come from or which team they support. That’s Sunday League thinking, but in S2 I’m used to that.

Neither am I, I’m putting it in a player that scored 24 goals last year, and scored within 6 minutes of his PL return. If at his age, he starts to run out of steam (such as Duffy did) then we have the strength and depth to replace him. But to write him off as a super-sub is premature. He came on, played well, and scored. He keeps the shirt in my view.

Glenn Murray is playing well and scoring goals for Brighton and is 3 years older than Sharp. We invest a lot in sport science and nutrition these days, Sharp clearly looks after himself, and I think could easily perform well for another 3-4 years conceivably.

He certainly scored. As for playing well apart from that, both the other subs were more impressive. I demand they start the next game. It really matters to me, far more than the result.

But I still think it's a little early to be starting like that & I'm not sure whether Freeman is a viable alternative for Fleck yet.

You might be correct. But can Freeman put in a defensive shift, cover Stevens when he bombs up, keep possession etc... Fleck does a lot of neat & tidy jobs & his output is still excellent (11 assists last season?).

I think Freeman might possess the necessary qualities, but think it will take time.

I haven’t got a clue as to what team I’d put out on Sunday?. After watching MOTD I know we need to attack them from the start and not let puncheon or zaha dictate the game!!. Wilder will already be thinking the same thing so I’ll leave it up to him.
The whole team were outstanding yesterday I M H O.
I’m really looking forward to taking my seat on the kop next Sunday

Macburnie in for Mcgoldrick is the only change I see CW contemplating for next week.

I’d like Freeman in but Lunny did well yesterday and CW clearly has him down as a key man this season.

The only reasons I think he may consider McBurnie is he’s the record signing and he is probably more clinical with the chances than Mcgoldrick

Its no coincidence that the 3 players who were subbed were the ones considered high on the list to eventually make way for the new signings. Analysing the game in the cold light of dawn we were losing until the subs and retrieved the situation in the limited time that was remaining. The obvious starting XI should therefore include the replacements we brought on as their impact on the game was fucking obvious for all to see.

He can't go with Lundstram at home to Palace after spending all that money on attackers. Will be interesting to see how he gets him on the bench though.

And if Wilder does as you suggest , then I believe we would have the perfect line up for this game .

Agree with this. Though I'm not against Robinson playing in the no 10 role. Him and Freeman will push each other when the former isn't playing up front.

Wilder has given himself options bad he'd be silly not to use them.

I didn't used to be a fan of horses for coarses but as a non-established PL team, we need to optimize what we have and you'd mark Palace at home down as one of those you need to go for it more and be on the front foot and clinical.

Yesterday was about being compact and providing movement up front so the ball wasn't just coming straight back.

It may even be that Morrison comes into the squad in lieu of Lundstram and that Lundstram goes back into the XI next away game.

If that is Chris's approach then I am fine with that.

He set up three goal scoring opportunities. More than any other player on the pitch.

And played the ball sideways and backwards more than any player on the pitch , thus putting a halt to our forward momentum .

And let players close to him receive the ball then , rather than closing them down , back pedalled away giving them all the time and space in the world whilst waving his arms and pointing a la Jamie Hoyland .

He's always had the ability , given time and space , to deliver a decent ball over the top but other than that I saw nothing yesterday to convince me that he is any better as a player than he has been for the last two seasons , when he was deemed not good enough to hold down a place in the Championship .

I'd go with the same but would have no problem with Freeman coming in as Number 10. Watching the pre season games the one player who finds the space in between the lines like Duffy used to do is Robinson and seems a more natural fit for this role. His goal scoring ability is the added bonus.
