--------------------Howard

Freeman---Edgar--Collins--Wallace

JCR--------Basham--Hammond--Scougall

--------------Sammon---Done

Changed a little since I've cooled off slightly from Tuesday and decided I'd give Freeman, Collins and Hammond another go. I think Sharp needs a rest and Done needs a chance up top with Sammon. Adams, Baxter, Reed etc. were so bad Tuesday they can't play the next game for me. Basham's energy is needed in midfield. back to the back 5 that got us on that decent little run at the start of the season. JCR is a must. Scougall and Done would give us a bit more energy with Basham, Hammond and Sammon to balance out their lack of physical presence.

I'm a fan of a 352 might work with the limitations within the squad?

Personally I think Freeman is lightweight, one of the weakest and poorest in a team of weak and poor players.
A real tosser and his mate on the left flank is devoid of any talent .
Surely young K Wallace got to go in Saturday

Id be bringing K Wallace back, taking a chance on Brayford and playing him. I'd be putting Edgar and Basham at centre back. I'd play Baxter in his natural position, I'd play JCR in his natural position (playing players in natural positions - who would have thought). Hammond would play but he would be told to f*cking up his game or go back to Leicester. I drop Sharp, and be looking to get Done or Sammon involved.

However, I wouldnt be surprised to see a right negative team selection - Hammond and Basham in the centre midfield and Baxter will be dropped for not being able to defend (who cares that he has carried us for the last five or six games with goals and assists). The undroppables will also be featuring.

You can perm the squad any way you want really and still not come up with a half decent goalkeeper, defence or midfield. I can also paint my barn door safe in the knowledge that Billy Sharp couldn't hit it from 3 yards away right now and Done looks a shadow of the player from last season.

The next 6 games (not counting the cup match) see us play only 2 teams below us (after Saturday Scunny could well be above us as well- its only a GD of 1 that puts us above them) so Saturday is even more important. Get beat by Barnsley and I can see us getting thumped by Coventry and Wigan, beaten by Bradford and Peterboro and possibly turned over by Scunny. Things can look a whole lot worse on January 2nd 2016 when the transfer window opens if those drawing a living out of SUFC don't get their fingers out.

I'd go for:
Long
Brayford Edgar McEverley Harris
JCR Coutts Hammond K.Wallace
Basham
Done
Subs: Howard, Freeman McGahey, Baxter, Reed, Sharp, Adams;

Obviously not sure on Brayford. But sounds like he could be in squad listening to Adkins interview. Reason why play Basham behind Done to win ball further up field and win headers. If he wins one he's done better than Sammon.

.......,,,,,,,,,.,Howard

Brayford. ...Edgar.... Basham... K. Wallace

JCR..... Coutts... Reed... Adams.

............... Baxter.

.................. Done.

Much as it is against my instincts to select Coutts he's better than Hammond, Reed was unlucky to pulled at half time as he was about the best of the midfield in my opinion. Adams, cos there is no one else. Sharp needs the kick up the Arse of beeing dropped, Sammon currently looks like someone who has won a pub raffle to be a footballer for a season.

Give Billy a rest,he can come off the bench if need be...I would have liked to fit Coutts in there but I think he'll play Hammond along with the 2 Centre Backs that came on v the Shrews, although wouldn't be surprised to see Brayford in the line up....Sammon?... a big lad up front to hold up the ball and get the midfield runners up in support, and Baxter to create and pick the passes to hurt them....Barnsley player to watch out for..Adam Hammill on the left wing.

1. Shut up shop immediately - we are conceding too many goals so we need to abandon the "set up to win every game philosophy" for a run of 6-10 games and concentrate on not conceding a goal.
Yes, that's back to Clough tactics - but it's the only way you build any confidence into a team that is clearly shot (yes, shot as well as shit) at the moment.
2. I'd set up with Done as the lone striker, the outlet, for him to chase the ball released into the channel and wait for support. Or if the ball is played over the top or slid in between centre back and full back - a lot of his goals for Rochdale were scored that way. This would mean dropping Sharp and keeping both he and Sammon on the bench for when Done was knackered - or we needed more of a direct approach late in a game.
3. I'd put as much pace and strength as I could muster in a midfield (Ha!) I'd only play one of either Coutts or Hammond in there - sub one of them for the other, if required.
4. I'd use Che on one of the wings (Right as a preference) - not centrally - he seems to play better when he can run forwards rather than with his back to goal attempting to tussle with a centre back and turning them - His control is not great when under pressure and playing on the wing will give him time to run onto stuff and generate the momentum that scares defenders.
K-Wall gets the left hand midfield berth as he can cover for Harris if he ventures forwards - especially when Harris takes the set pieces - and K Wall is much swifter than Baxter - who gets caught out of position too much, still.
5. We'd need somebody like Scougall to get up to support Done as much as he could - being the most forward of a 5 man midfield - once he is knackered then sub him with Baxter - or start Baxter and then sub him with Scogall
6. To counter the aerial threat we would have to stick with Edgar and Collins as the centre backs since we need the height - we would not be playing expansive football for a while so they would not be found out for pace as there would not be as much space in behind them.

Given what we have at the moment it would be something like

Howard
Freeman Edgar Collins Harris
Adams Basham Coutts Wallace (K)
Scougall (Baxter)
Done

Still shit - but may battle for a point and could nick one or two on the counter to snaffle all three.

Howard

Basham Baxter. K Wallace
JCR. Sammon Done

Subs; Howard, Freeman, Collins, Flynn, Adams, Sharp, Scougall

* Depending who's fit

I'd like to have had the chance to consider having McNulty, Calvert-Lewin, Kennedy and Alcock in the squad but there you go

If Brayford's not ready I'd play Freeman and tell him that for all his good points, if he doesn't get back and defend he can get a job as Santa in a grotto at Crystal Peaks

I would put Sharp and Done up front. Rest Adams, and Baxter, he looked tired. Oh and I'd play JCR. I'd bring Collins back in as he has had the kick up the arse he needed. Oh and Howard in goal as Long is shit 'apparently'! Brayford should be fit for some minutes also I reckon.

Personally I think Freeman is lightweight, one of the weakest and poorest in a team of weak and poor players.

He's not great by any means, mediocre at best. The worrying thing is that, despite that fact, dropping him is probably eighth priority on the list. I thought he'd play till Brayford was fit but now I'm worried he'll keep his place with JB in the centre of defence instead.

You're not far wrong there!
