While I thought their flying defender made a brilliant diving save with his head I have no sympathy for Bury at all. They made no attempt to win this game and therefore got what they deserved. Nothing!
Even when they had a corner in the second half they didn't push men into our box.
There non existent travelling fans and manager might like to dress it up as a battling performance of nine men against 11 and a biased referee but the reality was that they had no ambition other than to stop us playing.
I know this won't be the last team that try and do this this season but I suspect they will all get exactly the same from the game NOTHING

To be fair to them they had lost 8 matches in a row before last night and were away at the 2nd best team in the division. What do you expect them to do? If they had attacked they would have been beaten easily. As it turned out they ended up with nothing, but their tactics nearly worked for them.

Get used to it, teams parking the bus is going to be the norm at the Lane for the rest of the season.

I don't think teams will find it as easy to play like that against us with Duffy in the side, but I also think the key is down to us getting an early goal while they've still got 11 players on the pitch because it should draw teams out in theory.

We're not that good yet that teams will come to the Lane expecting to lose and just keep the score down are we?

Deliberately taking the late throw ins down the line so they never entered play and had to be retaken, was a new addition to the Time Waster's book of tricks.

They got EXACTLY what they deserved, SFA

If I were a bury or Shrewsbury fan, I would be fuming that their players go absolutely flying in in non dangerous areas getting stupid red cards and making their already difficult task even more difficult. I wouldn't be proud of our "battling performance" at all.

Parking the bus and defending a point is perfectly legitimate. Doing what Mellis did is absolutely not, and warranted a painful defeat.

At least their second red was picked up in a situation where the fella felt he had to make a challenge. If you watch Mellis he was aiming for the player. Awful stuff.

I have a degree of sympathy for the hardy bunch of Bury fans who had to come to a side in top form on a Tuesday night after being thrashed 3 consecutive times. Proper supporters.

The team itself? No chance, their negative approach and time-wasting antics got them all they deserved.

nope, no sympathy. i can acknowledge their efforts and some crackin last ditch leaps and tackles. i can also acknowledge their tactics at trying to frustrate us - which it did do - but just us fans. Our players, however, looked as disciplined as ever, even when things were not working out with every wave of attack. no flamboyancy, no tantrums or theatrics - despite a frustrated ground. just graft and keeping focussed. well earned lads!

I'm just glad we aren't the team going to somewhere to get a point.

These games highlight why it's not uncommon for teams near the top to slip up against teams at the bottom end. We have been devoid of creativity and invention for years, and well before we dropped down to this league. And when sides defend in numbers so deep, you have to have someone capable of beating a man and taking their players out of the game.

The little bit of quality we have shine through in the end, with a very good one-two and neat first time cross and finish. We upped the pace and moved the ball quickly around their box.
Hopefully that will be a lesson remembered when more sides turn up at the lane to park the bus. Just getting bodies forward and balls into their box isn't enough.

Nice to be seeing some well created goals though....I like goals like last nights more than the spectacular strikes from distance that succeed 1 in ten efforts.

No sympathy whatsoever. No one sympathised with us when we were shit, most laughed. So fuck 'em.

Indeed. Fair enough if you rag someone down as they're about to score (rule change notwithstanding) or handball it on the line, but there was no excuse for him getting that red on the halfway line.

Shame :)

Couldn’t agree more with the OP. One of the most satisfying sights in football is seeing a team who have timewasted and cheated their way through an entire game scurrying to take a kick off quickly after conceding a late goal. Timewasting is one of my biggest peeves in football and what frustrates me so much is that referees could stamp it out so easily by being firmer and brandishing a yellow card as soon as it begins. Since we’ve been in this league I’ve been so pissed off at getting to watch around 50 minutes of football per match due to the level of unpunished time-wasting that’s been going on.
