I've always felt British over and above being English. I've always taken as much interest in Wales, Scotland and NI, and even the Repub of Ireland, as I have in the England team.
Should I shift my primary allegiance to the land of leeks and daffodils, along with Mr Brooks?

I hate the word British. I'm English.

What the fuck have Scotland and Wales got to do with me?
There's thousands of Scottish and Welsh in our forces, thats enough for me to say I'm British, but I see your point.
I also think the Union flag is more respected than the St George Cross but thats another story.

Supported Uruguay since 1966 at every international tournament. No links with the country just fell in love with the strip. South Africa, great tournament, Forlan, Cavani, Suarez, Maxi Pereira, Godin, etc.

Qualified easily for Russia already

Genuinely couldn’t give a toss about England

Do whatever you fucking want but don't post in the wrong section*

*using "Mr Brooks" as an example does not make this Blades related.

I've always rooted for all the home nations, except when they play England (although I don't mind England chucking NI a few points if they can afford to in qualifying). I know quite a few Jocks and Welsh like to see us lose, but some of them are proud to be British and as my Grandad was from Northern Ireland I like to see them do well.

but you consider yourself french Cahill ?

The flag was a mistake, can’t shift it now, don’t understand how to do it ‘cos I’m thick at technology ( also a bit thick). I spend 4-6 months each year in France and embrace the language and culture but have supported Uruguay since I was a kid. Local French club is Toulouse, also reasonably close to Montpelier, been to both grounds

Just as I support the club that was nearest to where I grew up through thick, thin and a whole lifetime of shit - I think you should support the country where you're born and brought up.

Changing ships mid-race is a notion which should be saved for half/half scarf wearing charlatans!

Wouldn’t disagree with that, the booing of other countries national anthems, the chauvinism, nationalism and general fuckwittery of a lot of England supporters eg.England fans behaviour and riot at the game in Dublin several years ago, turns me right off. England fans behaviour in France at the previous tournament to the last one was a disgrace.

Always thought of myself as Moroccan. I was born in England but I'd qualify to play for them as I once had a wank on a plane whilst flying over there.

Steve, that would depend upon the date in question of said flight, I'm sorry mate, but FIFA no longer recognise the use of the "five knuckle shuffle" as proof of entitlement.

What the fuck have Manchester and London got to do with me?

I like Scotland and Wales - I think Manchester and London are shit.

I support England first, but then all the home nations - but I guess the strength of my support would be greatest for any team with a Blade in. I haven’t thought about that before - hasn’t really come up (!) but if Brooks was in a team against Southgate’s England my heart could only go one way - I bet we’re nearly all the same.

UPDATE: Just checked and the Moroccan's have confirmed that they will honour this and Steve can report for training next week.

If I supported the team nearest to where I grew up with I’d never have become a Unitedite. Luckily just at the point of getting into the game I was rushed up to Bramall Lane and the rest is history.

For which national team to follow, there was no family nudging on this towards a particular nation, so I chose to go with my dad’s family links to Wales over the country I was born in. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, and I don’t claim to be Welsh (British if asked).

I used to be supportive of all British teams. But I've seen too much of the "anybody but England" mentality from the Scots and the Welsh. They delight in seeing England fail - so f*ck 'em.

Used to get as passionate about England as the Blades until about 2007. The penalty shootout defeats hit me just as hard as United's play off failures. I could write an essay on why things changed but I genuinely don't think I'll even cheer when (if) England score at the next World Cup. In fact I would absolutely piss myself if they lost every game 6-0.

It's not something I'm proud about but it's just how I feel. In just 10 years I've gone from caring deeply about the national side to sort of hoping they didn't exist at all. I don't think I'm the only one

If Brooks lined up against England tomorrow I would love him to get a hat trick. If Fleck and Coutts were in the Scotland team and they were in the next World Cup I'd support Scotland I think. England mean so little to me as a national side. Imagine how beautiful it would be seeing Fleck bang a free kick in against Joe Hart! How could you not cheer that??

Saw them 'live' a few times in 1990, and to witness them first hand was like watching a group of master butchers.

Bang on mate. It sad but the English Footbsll Team is a banner for dick heads to go abroad and export the complete cuntery.

However, just like 6 years in League One, it's an affliction we have to live with...

After over 30 years of disappointment watching England I emigrated to Australia just as they were qualifying for their first world cup in over 30 years. I've had both British & Australian citizenship for years now & have to say my allegiance would be for Australia over England every time, even though I don't feel any more Australian than I do English.

I still watch England games at tournaments when on TV but there's very little emotion involved for me now. After the Iceland game last year it was nice to walk outside into the Australian sunshine, not feel annoyed in the slightest & no one I spoke to at work even knew about it. I do have more emotion about Australia games these days & have an important appointment with my couch to watch Honduras vs Aus. World cup qualifier at 7am this Saturday.

The same doesn't apply for club football though...I used to watch Melbourne Victory most weeks when I lived in Melbourne but being a Blade is something you're born with & they'll always be no.1

Agree, no sentiment here they hate us, I hate them.
Never forget mr (British twat) Murray cheering for the opposition against us, but happy to be British, fuck em

I found this dislike of the England football team extends beyond the British Isles. Most other football fans here in Aus. are from European migrant families...Greeks, Italians etc as well as British & the Australian TV commentators are always very eager to bag the English & praise the Europeans. Its strange...not sure why it is?
I've always had an interest in how the other British teams go & I also include New Zealand these days & am hoping they can qualify for the WC again if they can beat Peru next week.
