Who do you think will be the surprise package next season?

Will players like Alan Quinn or Leigh Bromby be the come back kings......or even The Horse?

Will Lucky get a run?

Will the new guys such as Fathi or Shelton step up......or Nade?

Or have we got any youngsters that will take the big leap?

Of course some of these may go in the next couple of weeks.

Robbo, up to now, has mentioned one or 2 have things to prove and he seems impressed with Shelton.

I reckon Li Tie may finally get his chance to shine.

Although i think Shelton will be the surprise next season with his pace.

I think either Shelton,Nade or maybe Fathi could be a surprise next year.

my money is on shelton super speed to bang over 10 in this campaign :D

im not going to say 20 though ;)

i think Shelton will do very well.

If you look at our strikers now i think it is hard to pick 2 because they all have the ability.
Also think Nade will prove to be a very valuable asset.

Sharp, Nade, Shelton, Stead, Hulse (if he doesn't go)...don't think i've forgotten any. Which 2 would you choose?

You've forgotten the Horse.

Its a very tough choice for me between Sharp, Hulse and an in form Stead for the first choice to be honest! Then we have options of differing specialisms for the rest...

Shelton is like shit off a shovel,
Nade is strong as owt and cheeky with the odd skills/flicks.

We certainly have plenty of good options, they all have their different advantages, where as in years before we had plenty of strikers, but they were similar/shite :)

Are you thinking we stick Webber on the left wing in CKR's spot?

A suprise package will probably turn up in a car in London at some time next season :)

Stats don't mean much in most cases...

But heres a quickly worked out (and therefore probably completely wrong) league goals per game ratio for all the strikers on our books...

Billy Sharp - 0.62

Luton Shelton - 0.39

Geoff Horsfield - 0.34

Rob Hulse - 0.34

Danny Webber - 0.26

Jon Stead - 0.22

Christian Nade - 0.11

and in comparison to some other popular transfers/rumours -

David Nugent - 0.28

Robert Earnshaw - 0.46

Darren Bent -0.41

Marlon Harewood - 0.30

I've been talking to the gaffer of my local Conference North team who is nicely connected with Sheffield football (albeit blue and white...) and the team team traditionally has a good bond with the Blades - Adam Burley and Ben Purkiss the most recent 'notables' and I asked him about bringing some of the young lads across to help them out.

James Ashmore was about to be released last season and had the chance to come to GTFC but has decided to stay at BDTBL under the new regime so I'm wondering if maybe he or Nicky Law would emerge this season? Both well thought of in the Academy. Dominic Roma, Ben Starosta all on the fringe but never quite there under NW. A season in the championship may well help them out.

Would love to see more Academy players coming through, as we know Ron and Kevin and the boys do an outstanding job.

Ben Starosta's mum posts occasionally posts on here (Bladesmum) :)

We went to quite a few of the academy and reserve B matches last season and we were impressed almost every time. There's some tidy football played by the Reserves under Ron and the kids under Scott Sellars.

It would be good to set up close links with a League One or Two side where we can send the lads to "toughen 'em up a bit" as they progress in terms of physical development.

Scott Sellars was in my Mum's first school class. :)

think ginger quinn will do well in championship aswell.

I agree, but not if he plays out left. Needs to be in the middle to show his quality.

Got a feeling with a new manager in charge and hopefully a more passing style of football, it will bring the best Tonge, both Quinns, Stead, Nade, Sharp etc.

Please god, no more hoofball.

i hope ryan creswell gets his chance he's from my school and he had a decent loan spell at halifax late on last season

i think there's a number of players who could 'shine' next season but especially shelton, nade, sharp, squinny and kilgallon.

i think we'll see more of bromby next season probably as CB and i also think that nicky law may come back into contention, but we'll no more after the first few games

it'll be hard to stick with 2 main strikers because all the strikers we have are good in there on way

i agree with whoever said it earlier about webber on the left, i remember him playing there when we went to southampton during this christmas period the season we got promoted and i was impressed with him, if i remember rightly i'm sure he set up the goal for towd neil

He scored from the left wing against cardiff as well. I dont know how that ball ended up in the back of the net. The keeper looked like he was doing a super hans

Cant see Cresswell getting a chance yet Mark. Think he will be off out on loan again to a bigger club before he gets the call.
