At least there’s one decent away day next season!

Any others on your away day favourites list next season?

If so, who and why?

Whatever I can tickets for is usually my favourite away day. But Sunderland in the Donaldson brace season was fun, not gonna lie

Good trip is to Derby, who we have now lost to L1, because of the great pubs in the centre. But the best is any match in Brum. The best pub in the world is The Wellington on Bennetts Hill. Ideal day - train to get there for 11:00, then 3 hours supping before walking to St Andrews, train to Albion, or taxi to Villa Park. Hopefully a victory, then another couple of hours in the Wellington before getting the train home, then time for one in the Sheffield Taps before last local train home.
Have to disagree on Sunderland being a good trip. Pubs are pretty shite there...........

It seems a shame to let 90 minutes of football spoil the day out...............;)

The Wellington is a cracking pub, far, far better than The Briar Rose 👍

God, I sound like a pig fan when we went up.

It is weird how you acclimatise to a standard of football.

When we played in league 1 I thought the standard was low but OK to watch.
Then during the early games in the Championship the standard seemed so much higher.
I still remember our first home game against Brentford and being so impressed with them....far better than any league 1 team.
In conclusion....I was surprised that there was such a massive difference in quality between league 1 and the Championship.

A few years later we've now had 2 seasons in the Premier League
I remember our first home match against Huddersfield last season and being surprised at how poor they were.
In conclusion...after playing in the Premier league the standard in the Championship seems really poor.

I've got no issue with Sunderland but biased commentators like Michael Gray are bound to say that about their own club. They've got a big ground but as far as "deserving" to be in the top flight or whatever is concerned, I'd have to disagree.

When they were a top flight club, they were nothing more than either Crystal Palace floaters who never troubled any cup finals or seemed to have an absolute nightmare. They've been somewhere between average and dogshit ever since Phillips and Quinn both left.

I think Derby is pretty average for pubs, so is Birmingham (dont think Ive been in the Wellington)
Best pub Ive been in for quite a few seasons is The Head of Steam in Huddersfield 12/14 real ales on cant go wrong if they lose to Forest Im on a mission to try them all next season. The Uttoxeter micro brewery was also excellent on the way to Stoke
The Brunswick, The Alexander, both within 5 mins walk of Derby station. The Flowerpot 10 mins further.
Head of Steam in Hudders is OK, but Kings Head (outside station to the left) has better ale. And fantastic hot pork pies...
BTW - a group of us got chucked out of the Head of Steam a couple of years ago in December for singing Christmas Carols whilst halfway through the Stalybridge to Leeds ale trail by train. All of us over 60 years old. Fuckin badge of honour or what.......? Rock and Roll!!

Although (broadly) agreeing with the thrust of your post, & not wanting to defend the shithole in which I reside:
in the last 50 years they’ve been in 6 cup finals ( excluding Play Offs) c/f our 0
Admittedly 2 were vanwindscreenpainterdecoratorpizza ‘trophy’ affairs but we didn’t even get close to that during our participation

Ive been in those two they are ok but find a lot of pubs in Derby have the Home fan only regime although you can get in if youre lucky

I was in the Head of Steam before and after our recent game at Huddersfield and would suggest with 12 real ales on it would be hard to find a better selection anywhere near a football ground I sampled four of the ales they had on and they were all perfect and I couldnt fault them not tried the Kings Head but after drinking on the HOS I dont think the selection / quality of ales could be bettered. But Iam willing to try

I disagree. I found League 1 unbearably bad once the novelty factor wore off. Lower attendances, flat atmospheres, very few away fans and really hopeless footballers labouring away without ever impressing. It was awful to watch. By season 4 / 5 it was getting to be a bit of a chore to watch.

Ah, OK, have led a shetered life!!!!

In this type of establishment, a lass in a bikini will go round the pub every 15 minutes or so demanding you put a pound in a pint pot, or you are asked to leave. Your (and everyone else's) prize for putting a quid in, is that she'll then get up on stage, do a dance and get her tits out.

Rather Wycombe have come up.

Sunderland will strengthen and be a promotion challenger within 2 years.
