Sunday Times - Another pundit tips us for relegation

Why are people getting annoyed at pundits tipping us for relegation? We got promoted from the championship and have bought mostly championship tested players, of course they are. We ARE going to be in a relegation scrap, anyone thinking otherwise is deluded.
Well I AM DELUDED then. What now? ;)

If we're scrapping for 17th is that technically a relegation or survival scrap? I'm picking 16th by the way, minimum, and think we may do better.

Also, are they delusions of grandeur or inferiority?:)

There’s so much snobbery and ignorance here in the premier league it’s unreal. To them, the new season of the premier league is like the new season of love island. Who’s the biggest celebrity? Who’s the most well known?

I’m in a group chat with two of my mates, a Man Utd fan and a Liverpool fan. The Man Utd fan is absolutely delighted today with signing maguire. A player i suggested they sign 5 years ago and he literally laughed in my face. It’s like a threshold of column inches, once a player has got a certain amount of column inches, they become a good player. They operate with a transfer policy which is completely seduced by the media. They’re not football fans as far as I’m concerned. The Liverpool fan has just been chewing my ear off about how he wishes they could sign Maddison from Leicester. I suggested him to them when he was tearing the championship apart and I could tell he just wasn’t listening. It’s not fashionable enough.

They’ve been telling me we are going to finish bottom with a record low points because they haven’t heard of our signings and they aren’t ‘premier league quality’. Ignorance is bliss.

Where do they think all these players come from? They don’t grow out of the ground, the vast majority are from the football league and we’ve just hoovered up the best talent from the best division in the football league. I’m so glad that wilder, knill and Mitchell aren’t as ignorant, naive and stupid as my premier league supporting friends.

I’m scared of Man City home and away, Liverpool at Anfield and spurs at their new ground, the rest are mediocre. Anyone saying anything different just reminds me of the pig talk when we got into the championship. This is a set of winners. They win football games. No team in the country has won more games of football than this lot in the last 3 years. Teams like Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham etc have completely forgotten how to win games and it shows. No identity, shooting from the hip transfer policy and a revolving door. We’re better than them, and the whole footballing world is soon going to realise just how good some of these players are. Have fucking faith.

I wished we’d all stop getting so pissy about being tipped to go down, seriously what did we all expect?

We’ve just gone up, we don’t have a huge budget (even though we’ve smashed it compared what most expected) and most of these pundits don’t know much outside of the bubble that is the premier league.

Sit back, ignore, let’s see what happens and enjoy every minute of it.

I can remember us beating arsenal last time round ,man yoo a few times before that and I've seen us beat Liverpool Chelsea ( 4-2 ) and spurs 6-0
So you're absolutely right brother
Fuck me another deluded Blade just like me:D.

I stood in stunned silence on John St terraces when we had a free shot at goal from the spot and we phooked it up and the reality 4th Division footbal hit home. It's almost like it happened again last season:eek: for some here you'd be forgiven for thinking.

We appear as a team utterly fearless. Chris certainly is. So why would any fans not be. If they looked shit scared then I might have cause to be.

Is it a Sheffield thing perhaps? I do think there's an inherent negative streak running through some.

It's hardly surprising, anyone would tip a newly promoted side to be relegated, just on past history alone - though why so many people seem to think Villa will do so well I can't say.

At the bookies we're favourites to be relegated with practically all of them, in fact I can't find one where we aren't favourites.

And this is A VERY GOOD THING.

And above all, it doesn't fecking matter.

Just a reminder. We've only once gone straight back down and you could argue a mixture of the Hulse injury, Warnock's ultra defensiveness away and bloody Tevezgate all contributed and in the end it was only by one fucking goal!

I was annoyed by these things at first, I thought we had gained more respect from what most of the TV pundits said last season.

But now I don’t care what any of them say, what will be will be.

Didn’t the bookies also have us nailed on for a quick return to League 1 a couple of seasons ago?

It's still going to be very tough to avoid relegation this season, but I think we will do it. There's no big 6 this season - it's just the big 2 really. So that means the bottom teams are quite capable of picking up unexpected points (as us, Newcastle, Southampton, Palace have already shown). I think 38 or maybe even 39 points will be required to avoid the drop.

Southampton is a huge game for us. Win that and we go into the game at Everton with a spring in our step.
