Good Results for us

I think Leicester have drawn 1-1 with Ipswich (BBC Sport seems to be a bit confused on the matter) and Cardiff & Blackpool both drew too which is probably the best result we could have hoped for.

We look good to pounce on the play off pack. Interesting to see how Middlesborough do against us on Saturday, like us, despite a very poor run of results they are still in touch, although I'd much rather be facing a Strachen Boro team than a Southgate Boro team (genuine leadership etc).

We ain't been great this season, far from it but when I look at the teams above us, there have been times when every single one of them has looked and played very ordinary.

If we can have a decent transfer window, and stay clear of injuries to key players i fully expect us to finish in the top 6.

I watched the game at Leicester on the tv today. Both teams awful-Ipswich went 1-0 up after 20 seconds (own goal) and never pushed on from there-seemed to want to defend for the whole game after that.
Leicester-lots of hoof ball, had a few good spells where they put Ipswich under pressure but the final ball was awful and their corners were even worse!
Ipswich won't go down but don't think they are going to push on for a top half finish.

In looking at the BBC results service, my attention was drawn to the story about Cardiff City under the heading of 'American billionaires eye takeover of Cardiff City'.

The story starts...

"Cardiff City are in talks with American billionaire investors about a possible £40m takeover of the financially-stricken Championship club. It is claimed talks have been going on since the summer and a deal could be done by the end of February. Representatives of the investors were at Saturday's 1-1 draw with Blackpool. "

Good positive stuff, but then it continues...

"The Bluebirds face a second winding up order on 10 February if an unpaid £2.7m tax bill to Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs is not paid by then. But sources at the club insist that promised new investment to help pay off the tax bill is separate to this development.

Chairman Peter Ridsdale said last week that there was "no immediate threat to the club" over the unpaid tax bill. [Duncs comment: Anyone who considers a HMRC Winding up petition to be "no immediate threat" has got a screw loose.]

"We have every confidence that all monies owing to HMRC will have been repaid by the end of January," he added. Cardiff have already escaped one winding up order on 16 December after agreeing a payment plan with HMRC. But they were hit with a new petition just seven days later after they missed a payment."

Further down, it says

"With the Bluebirds struggling for cash, but in contention for promotion to the Premier League, the Bluebirds sold more than 10,000 season tickets as expectant fans reacted to Ridsdale's promise that the investment would pay for new players in January. His transfer kitty was inflated by an estimated £3m thanks to their season ticket initiative which the club promised would see supporters gain a full refund on their 2010/11 passes should Cardiff win top-flight promotion. "

So instead of paying off the PAYE, they spunked the extra £3m on players. Ridsdale doesn't appear to have learned much from his experience at Leeds, does he? Still imagine how great it will be when American Investors appear just in time to save the day, unless they spend their money on Wednesday instead, of course...
