SUFC retained list.....

If he's been kept around as backup for centre half and left back and he knows this is the case, then I can live with that.

Why no mention of Neil Collins? (Because his contract doesn't expire until the end of June?)

It's a list of players who won't be offered new deals. I expect contracts cancelled by mutual consent for the likes of Collins, JCR, etc and others put up for sale.

He's (McEv) not good enough even as League 1 back up, think it would be better to try someone else. Kieron Wallace offers even less so two mistakes in the transfer market already. Mediocrity all round and more quality not quantity. Painful when he should be clearing the decks.

But if he buggers off abroad to his rumoured destination Juventus then there's no development fee, is that right?
That might be right for a move to Europe but they would still put the offer on the table otherwise he could move to another English club for free.

McEveley is a decent back up centre half and left back which I suspect is what he'll be used as. If we were to let him go and then our first choice centre halves got injured (highly likely given the names of our rumoured targets) we'd have little to no cover and Clough would be called from a pig to a dog.

Apparently Collins' expires 2015 with the option to extend. The option to extend is with the player not the club?

But what with Brayford now out half of the season, Freeman will slot in at right back I would assume with Flynn an able deputy should he be needed leaving no cover at left back which Mceverley can provide aswell as cover at centre half should we need that too for whatever reason. He's worth keeping around one more year. I don't rate him highly enough to be a starter in a side challening for promotion but as backup, he'll do fine. In my opinion anyhow.

Keiron Wallace, when he was brought in wasn't he earmarked as one for the future? Clough may have dropped a bollock thrusting him into the 1st team picture so soon after his arrival, as he seems to have been written off by some. From what I've seen of him so far he's certainly not good enough to be in contention but he has time on his side to show some improvement so I'll reserve judgement on him for the time being.

I'm quite gutted about Steve Davies, he's showed signs that he could do a job for us next season

He's under contract at Blackpool so this is just the end of his loan with us. I can see a series of bids going Blackpool's way over the summer.

The Higginbotham clause. Hopefully we've not put that in anyone else's contract because it's ridiculous.

Collins will leave on a free but I would imagine that we will end up paying him a fair amount of money to go.

A lot of people out there obviously struggling to understand that the retained list only details those whose contracts have expired.

I've seen ridiculous comments demanding that Coutts, Higdon, Alcock, JCR & Cuverlier are released - a rough estimate but given that Coutts in on a 3 year contract it would cost >£2m to do that.

I wonder if Collins racked-up enough appearances to trigger another year. He'll be out on loan soon enough even if he has although it is bound to cost the club.

I must admit surprise that new deals have been offered to McEverley and partiularly Long though.

People also struggling to comprehend why clubs don't keep loan players over the summer period and therefore be liable for paying thier wages. I'd be surprised if Davies (S) doesn't return before the start of next season.

I'm sure the champions league finalists can't wait to sign a lad who's pushing 20 and scored 0 goals in a loan spell in League 2!

I'm only going off the reports on the internet and such. His agent deserves a massive high five from Diego mind if he can get him a move to Juve!

I get the feeling we'll see him return if Clough's fails again in getting Chris O'Grady to sign permanently. I hope that is Clough' transfer plans for the striker position anyways.

I for one hope S Davies isn't what Clough thinks is the answer, great to see him on the bench to offer something different but if we go for CoG and fail then i hope someone of equal quality will be signed instead. 14 appearances and 3 goals ratio just won't be enough, if we play say 55/56 games next season more than a 12 goal a season man is needed.

If it was me doing the transfer dealings I'd have O'Grady lined up as the primary target if that failed then Luciano Becchio perhaps? The big issue there would be would he be willing to drop a division, who knows? If all fails then bring back Steven Davies. I like Davies just not sure if i like him enough to trust him to spearhead us for an automatic promotion spot next season

Thought his contract was up this summer at Blackpool?

I think Blackpool have an option to renew.

Edit:

Link below suggests if such an option exists they are very unlikely to take it up. But we might still be waiting for his contract to officially run out there before offering him one, if indeed we are interested. I think he would be an asset to the squad, given how difficult we found it to find strikers last summer. He is a good option as a target man and links up well with others, even if his conversion rate must improve. There of course might still be discussions RE Clough before any contract offers for players are tabled.

I very much doubt Blackpool will renew given their relegation, resulting reduced budget and Davies' contract terms.

COG may be #1 target but I suspect Davies may come too esp if they try to move Higdon on. He just won't come yet - no point paying his wages over the summer.
