Offside rules were changed in 1925 and many defenders couldnt cope with the new rules

You havent removed the goals scored in the Cup. Dunne scored 41 league goals in 1930-31

Jimmy Dunne's goalscoring was ridiculous. All in the top flight as well.

Harry Johnson too, as an encore he went on to be the record scorer for a second club, Mansfield. I'm not sure if anyone else has managed that in English football.

Harry Johnson.
Remarkably he was a part time footballer, working at Hadfield Steel throughout his career.

You can also throw in that he fought in the First World War.

As good as Dunne and Johnson were, they were helped (Dunne more than Johnson) by the change in the offside law in 1925, which pushed up scoring considerably for 10 years or so. Many of the players who were record scorers for their clubs or who are in the top 10 to 20 of all time scored their goals in this period. Dixie Dean and George Camsell are two others to “benefit” from this.

If you take goals scored v average goals scored in the relevant season, those guys still look good, but players with great records outside that era - Jimmy Greaves, Alan Shearer, Steve Bloomer - really stand out. In fact I would say that the mantle of best top flight striker of all time belongs to one of those 3 or Dean.

Does Oli McBurnie hold the all time record for being a club’s top scorer with just 6 goals in a season ?

Does Oli McBurnie hold the all time record for being a club’s top scorer with just 6 goals in a season ?
McBurnie and Mousset were joint top scorers with 6 each.

In terms of total goals, this is the lowest. In terms of league goals, it is tied with David Kelly, who scored 6 in 2000-01 (Marcus Bent top scored in total goals for the season, but 3 of his 8 were in the League Cup)

George Camsell's grandnephew is a Blade and posts in here!

These numbers are all incorrect. They count cup goals as well as league goals. Dunne scored 41 league goals in 1931, not 50, and so on.

Edit- Silent beat me to it.

The following players were top league scorers but are not in the above list because the player listed outscored them in league and cup combined:

1982/3 - Colin Morris outscored King Keith 14 to 13. Edwards scored 10 cup goals (5 FA Cup and 5 League Cup). That was the only season in which he played more than a handful of games that Edwards was not top league scorer for us.
1986/7 - Peter Beagrie tied Steve Foley with 9 league goals
1996/7 Petr Kachouro tied Andy Walker with 12 league goals.
2000/1 - David Kelly outscored Marcus Bent 6 to 5. Bent got a hattrick in the league cup.
2014/15 - Jamie Murphy outscored Jose Baxter 11 to 10 in the league. Baxter scored two more cup goals

Another fun fact: Blake (1995-6), Deane (1997-8) Bent (2000-1) Beattie (2008-9) and Blackman (2012-13) all top scored despite being sold before February. The last 3 were sold in January, Blake in December, and Bent in November!

Top 10 seasons on % of points available gained: 2 of those 10 seasons are under Wilder, at a glance the only one of our managers to achieve that. He was here for less than 5 seasons. There is more to management than stats, but that is quite revealing.

Even without the numbers I think you could say we were a dominant team in both promotion seasons

I've always been fascinated with Bloomer. Has to be the least well known superstar footballer

I think there is a very good argument that Bloomer was the best player who played before the Great War. It's a shame he's not more widely known.

If you are interested in Bloomer, I cannot recommend The Ruhleben Football Association, by Paul Brown, highly enough. It focusses on Bloomer's internment in Germany during WW1 (he was coaching there when the War broke out) and also touches on his life generally. A terrific book.

FA Cup Win = 25
