Honestly though, still proud as a high school student at Hope Valley College to be selected to play aginst Man U U-18's in Youth Cup at OLd Trafford in front of 10,000 at 15 years old even though we lost 4-1.....

I'm 72 and that night as a high schooler on a schoolboy contract is still the night I cherish the most in my GK career although I played center forward that night and assisted on Mikey Speight's goal to give us a 1-0 ht lead... and then got creamed in the 2nd half. Tom McAllister was in goal that night.

Before the game I shook hands with Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best.

As you could maybe imagine, I was the talking point of the high school and it was amazing to see how I suddenly became the focal point of admiration from the girls!!! lol...

Speight used his hand to stop a goalbound shot by Francis Lee in the 3-3 draw, he got booked and was never an emergency keeper for us.





Woody's stints as an emergency keeper- 81 minutes v Leeds (h) in Nov 1967 (won 1-0), 15 minutes v Newcastle (h) (League Cup) in Sept 1969 (won 2-0), 4 minutes at Orient in Aug 1970 (lost 3-1), 25 mins at Leds in Nov 1972 (lost 2-1), 31 mins v Man City (h) in Oct 1973 (lost 2-1). Five stints as an emergency keeper totalling 156 minutes and conceded just one goal which was an own goal by Billy Dearden in the Man City match,

Have got an updated list of 180+ goalkeepers now to share. Will have missed a few including a lot of U21s but Clarebrough/Kirkham’s book has helped with filling in a lot of the blanks especially during both world wars. Will post on this thread when I’ve tidied the list up…

Do I get in for being the Internet Blades 'keeper for a while? I once scored a penalty as well, denying a certain Blade from the Borough/London Bridge area a hattrick, making me the only United goalie to appear on the scoresheet (I believe). Oh, and making me a glory-hunting non-team-player who has left Rob in a massive grump for around 20 years so far.
