Can anyone help me out with missing goalkeepers from the list below?

I’m trying to create a full list of all goalkeepers that have been on the books at United. The years and other info shown below has mainly come from Wikipedia so might not be 100% accurate... if you can help at all please do give me a shout :)

And in case you were wondering why I’ve done this I’m just interested in SUFC history and goalkeepers... I also clearly have too much time on my hands during the off-season!

Lee Baxter, Bob Widdowson, Arblaster, Fred Smith... I'm on my hols at the moment, so don't have usual sources of info to hand. Silent Blade will no doubt be along soon to fill in gaps.
Edit - seen Baxter on your list. I clearly try to wipe him from my memory.

Is this a Fred Smith that was a goalkeeper? Or was he an outfield player that went in net like Jagielka, Hutchison, Pemberton, Stancliffe and Woodward?

Can see two SUFC outfield players named Fred Smith on Wikipedia - which one has played in net?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Smith_(footballer,_born_February_1926)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Smith_(footballer,_born_May_1926)

Also did Brian Arblaster make a competitive appearance for us?

Thanks for the additions so far! :)

Almost certain Fred Smith was a bona fide goalie

We didnt have a Fred Smith playing in goal for us. Looked like someone got Fred White and Jack"Smiler" Smith mixed up. Arblaster never made our 1st team.

Stuart Young 4 games in 1951-52 and Max Ashmore 1 game in 1957-58

Re- Fred Smith: memo to self - don't post on factual threads when on holiday and after a few drinks. :( Fred White lived a few doors away from us, until his death a few years ago; I envied him his big goalkeeping hands.

Harry Wilkes 13 games in 1933-34 and 1934-35
Mick McCarthy can be seen in you tube (Sheffield United players at training in summer 1934- will post the link later) 9 games in 1934
George Turnbull 1 game in 1927
Albert Robinson 4 games in 1927
Ted Hufton 15 games 1912-15
Mark Mellors 1 game in 1908
Albert "Tal" Lewis 15 games 1902-04
Billy Biggar 14 games 1900-02
Albert Bradshaw 5 games 1896-99
George Waller 6 games 1892-93

Cheers! Not doubting these at all but would be interested to know the sources you draw these players from :)

Not sure about this and Silent no doubt can put me right but (remembering from my childhood) didn't Tony Currie go in the net for a defeat to Newcastle, seem to remember him saving a Tommy Craig penalty but a friend at the time said a 2 year old babby could save them. Long time ago I could've got confused.

True... but it was when he was playing for Leeds

Jack Smith was our keeper when I first started watching the Blades and a good one , too. Very commanding in the air with big hands and a great physical presence.

Fred White was his understudy and I saw him play a few times and got to know him much later through business - he was a sales rep for a brick company . He was one of the most charming and amiable men I ever met and a fanatical Blade to boot.

For many years after retiring, he had a season ticket in the South Stand and I often met and chatted to him.

The last time we met he was well into his 80's but still bright , alert and passionate about the Blades and yes, as Hodgie says, he had huge hands.

I don't see Arthur Wharton on your list. He only made 1 appearance in the football league for us, in 1894-5, but that was a significant game as he was the first black player to play in the football league.

A few more for you: all outfield players who took a turn in goal as the keeper was injured or had been sent off:

Alan Young vs Millwall in 1982-3
Glenn Cockerill vs Luton in 1985-6 (league cup)
Roger Nilsen vs Norwich in 1996-7
Shaun Derry vs Portsmouth in 1997-8

Plus Danny Wainwright, who was a youth team keeper I think, was the unused sub keeper in the 2-0 home win over Southampton in 1992-3. He never made a competitive first team appearance.

finally, I am pretty sure that Matt Dickins never played a competitive game although he's not marked as such on your list.
