I’m glad again, less chance of injury. Just a shame that Fleck and McBurnie will be subjected to shite 4-5-1 negativism for the jocks with McBurnie stuck up front and the ball hoofed to him for 90 mins, then told he’s shit by a load of sweaties.

I don't want them to play necessarily, or become regulars (injuries and interest) but JOC and Bash to be honest too, deserve at least the call to sit on the bench and watch England play Iceland or whoever.

There is literally 0 justification for Tyrone Mings continuously being picked for England.

Gareth Southgate is an absolute waste of time as England manager. In fact it just goes to show how bad England have been in the past that someone who just about met expectations at the last World Cup - based on the run of games we had - is being hailed as a national hero.

Southgate is a poor manager. Any manager from League One would have got England to the semi final with the run we had and he shouldn't be England manager at all based on what he's done prior to this job. Nothing in his record suggests he is capable of running the national team other than the fact he's a nice FA man.

That said I think he did show promise early on when he brought through the younger players and we have tried to be entertaining. The problem, as always with England managers, is he now has his favourites. He has picked poor players like Keane, Dier and Mings simply because he's worked with them before. He's obviously not picking players on form anymore and has gone the same way as all England managers do. Gary Neville said when he was assistant to Hodgson that they would rather pick players they knew and who had been in the squad before rather than players in form. It fails every time and there is simply no logical reason to pick the defenders he has when there are so many available who have had miles better seasons.

JOC, Dunk, Tarkowski and Coady will never get a proper chance unless they move to a bigger club. It's wrong but that's how these small minded managers see things. They truly believe you have to be playing at a big club to have success with England despite the fact this approach has literally never worked.

Whilst I agree, those players you mentioned should be in line for call ups, I don’t think it’s anything to do with the clubs they play for. There are players from Burnley, Villa, Southampton and Henderson’s call up is based on performances for us.

For whatever reason he just doesn’t rate certain players, that’s his opinion and if he’s wrong he’ll lose his job.

On the subject of the World Cup, yes it was a decent draw and path to the semi final for us, but come on, give a bit of credit where it’s due. We had some woeful performances under Sven and Capello at tournaments, Hodgson lost to Iceland and McClaren failed to qualify with a very strong squad. Managers with far better CVs who couldn’t get the best out of England teams.

Even if it’s an “easy” match, we’ve seen time and time again that it doesn’t always turn out to be the case with England. It’s ridiculous to claim we can chuck anyone into the England manager job and they’ll make a semi final with a decent draw.

I'd say Villa are a big club despite how bad they were last season. Pope has to be in there as the only other real alternative is Ramsdale. Fair point with Southampton though. Maybe he picks their players because they sound like his own name ;)

As for the World Cup, we won 3 games and lost 3 games. The 3 wins were against Tunisia, Panama and Sweden. It was a freak occurrence that we ended up in the Semi Final after that run. No team before has ever got so far with such a mediocre record and against poor teams. I would fully expect the majority of professional managers to win those 3 games with the players available to them. You talk about Hodgson , Capello and McClaren but only Hodgson out of those 3 lost to what would be classed as a true minnow and the likes of Tunisia and Panama are a level below even Iceland.

This was when he was actually playing three at the back.... got to a world cup semi. Then for some reason he changes this to 4 at the back and 2 defensive midfielders.

No hint of Dawson or/and Wildsmith getting called up?
I was under the impression that SWFC had the two best goalkeepers in the fine city of Sheffield,
aren't that mob a set of deluded fantasists?

He was racially abused in Bulgaria though. If we drop him, the racists win.....

I actually thought he was solid in both games for us, and compared to what we already have in the team a potentially good shout, his performances in the PL were good up to that point too, however he had a pretty sharp drop off in the 2nd half of the season and absolutely doesn't warrant this call up

Whilst I'm having a rant.....

What is this obsession all of a sudden with "ball-playing defenders"? Call me old fashioned but the number 1 attribute that a defender should have is the ability to defend the goal. Out of that squad today there is probably only maguire who's best attribute is defending. The rest are either attack minded full backs or "ball-playing defenders". Now being able to pass a ball 5 yards out of defence to a midfielder is not classed as a ball player in my book but that's why the likes of dier, mings and keane are allegedly picked for.

And just to debunk the myth even further.

Accurate passes in 2019/20 season

JOC - 1145 (58th in the league)

Mings - 1081 (68th)

They said similar shite when comparing Pickford and Deano

"Pickford is better for the England squad because he's better with his feet and Southgate wants to play out from the back"

Like with you, call me old fashioned but personally I prefer having a keeper that's first and foremost preventing goals, not trying to create them

Still can't wrap my head around no JOC call up, I think Bash should have been considered too.

Let's have a look at English CBs

Liverpool - Gomez (picked)
Man City - no-one
Chelsea - no-one
Manchester United - Maguire (convict, dropped)
Leicester - no-one
Tottenham - Eric Dier (picked, dogshit)
Wolves - Coady
Arsenal - Holding (made of biscuits)
Us - Bash, JOC

And on order of goals conceded it's

Liverpool
Man City
Man Utd
Us

So that should make JOC and Bash 3rd and 4th in line based on form, and with Maguire in disgrace, 2nd and 3rd in line. And they still can't get a call up.

Absolute fucking con.

Exactly as expected from Fraudgate. Poxing his way to a WC Semi is going to be as good as it gets under his spineless management.

Baffling picks - but expected.

They are not managers now for England they are just little arse kissers who pick who the big clubs tell them to, how does Dier get in squad he'll never be a footballer while ever he's got a hole in his arse.

Surely a Blades England 11 could beat Iceland by more than a 90th min pen...

Ramsdale, JRob, JOC, Jags, Bash, Baldock, Osborn, Lunny, Freeman, Sharp, Antwoine?

The current world champions only managed a 1-0 penalty win away at Iceland, but clearly England are far better than France?

I'd be amazed if they were the best keepers in their household

Pissing myself how wank Eric Dier has been playing left-side of the back three. Even them in the Sky studio are talking about it. Southgate needs to be sacked on the spot if he genuinely thinks Dier better for that role than JOC.

Thought this was gunna be the Jack Robinson appreciation thread after he saved today
