On a more positive note we've seen some cracking players here over the years:

Maguire. Outstanding for us, now playing in the Prem and deserves to be at a bigger/better club than Hull.
As much as i love a lot of the other players, i can't see them going as high as that. Murphy is another contender for me, though.

Harry Maguire. Well on his trajectory to be joining one of the elite clubs and becoming part of the England squad.

The "leadboots" thing (confined to a tiny minority and to pigs) was always idiotic.

The exact same as me pal.

Isn't it lovely to be spoilt for choice :) if I could select more than one I'd select all of them xd including Maguire (+ those who played in the championship) this could also be a poll on which was the best signing for us during our league one stay (which masks the disasters somewhat!)

Too many ifs and buts with ched, Macca let me down leaving, Maguire didn't turn his back on us but it's got to be one of the hero's from this season.
I've gone Fleck but it's basically joint with Billy.

Billy for me . Two seasons , fifty goals . Captain in his most prolific season and a true leader in easily our best year in league one . Not bad for a fat lad who I thought it was a mistake handing the captaincy too

Depends if you're going on overall impact or ability.

I'll try and combine the two and have a go at putting them in order:

1. Maguire
2. Evans
3. Fleck
4. Sharp
5. Lowton
6. Murphy
7. McDonald
8. Coady
9. Quinn
10. Williamson

Depends on the definition of best. Best for SUFC, Sharp by a country mile.

But the player who looked to be most over-equipped for the league, I have to say Ched. Ricky's list pretty similar to mine, but I think Ched seemed to have no weaknesses whilst Maguire always had the concern over his mobility.

Tough one this. Although the last 3 - 4 years we have been gash, we have had some good individuals. This season and last, Sharpy has been outstanding but, purely for having the bollocks to get himself off the transfer list and also weigh in with 11(?) goals (sorry Couttsy you just missed out on this), it has to be Freeman for me although the whole list warrants the title.

Incredibly difficult decision, but went with Maguire because of what he's gone on to achieve, and will no doubt progress further...

Easy decision but not on the list.

6 years of shit, unbelievable level of loyalty shown even to those that were not worthy of it, only one winner.

1st place by a country mile - the 20k die hard.

Maguire for me. Still love watching him and cannot wait to see where his career takes him. A truly quality player and one I'm proud has played for our great club. Closely followed by Billy, his contribution these last two years will never be forgotten.

Gone for Evans.

When you hear people commenting he was at times, better than Deane at this level then that is something.

Like him or loathe him, when Madine is buying a ticket on a free night to observe Evans play, that shows how outstanding he was at that time.

The "leadboots" thing (confined to a tiny minority and to pigs) was always idiotic.

I always thought it was something people said in an attempt to justify the sale, which arguably cost us promotion in 2014-5.

I voted Sharp over Maguire, but it's close.

In terms of raw optimism and excitement when he got the ball, it has to be Evans. He was unstoppable.

I have no problems with your prognosis, as forums are invariably about opinions, but the question was:

For pure footballing ability alone, I picked Coutts. Terrific brain, suoerrb control and a wonderful range of passing,

For actual importance to the club it has to be Sharp. As Tyler says, his contribution last season saved us from relegation and he has been immense this season.

For pure moments of enjoyment, very honourable mentions have to go to Evans, Harrry, Murphy and Fleck.

Even Adams would have to get a nod for the brace against Spurs, albeit he was brain dead and we are well shot of him.

So Sharp, Fleck, Maguire and Evans dominate the polls on here. I do find it amazing that Coutts gets 7 despite being awful for most of his time here, yet Lowton Brayford Coady and Basham don't get a single one XD

Sharp contributed the most during our time here, Evans was the best player to watch, Maguire was the best player ability wise and Fleck is a mixture of all three.

He wasn't 'awful' under Clough and Adkins and was obviously a good footballer. Initially he was a bit nesh following his serious injury, probably unfit and consistently played out of position by Adkins.

The other 4 were all very good, but when you only have one vote, none of them did quite enough.

Agree with Sharp, personally I'd say a mazy Murphy run and shot was the best thing to watch and I'd say Coutts is a better footballer than Harry. That is not a dig at Harry, who was technically excellent, I just think Coutts just about has it all.

Torn between McDonald, Murphy, Maguire and Fleck, was also very tempted by Matty Phillips just because he was clearly a cut above anything we've had since

Maguire for ability. Sharp for the impact he had.

I voted Maguire because I assumed the poll is about ability.

Simple, Bill Sharp, shine in a very below average side assembled buy Madkins and shine in a very very good Side assembled by Chris Wilder.

he took a pay cut to be with his beloved blades, and got what he deserved with the Captains armband and being able to lit the league one trophy as captain and as a blade.

Between Evans and Maguire for me. Maguire was excellent for a long period getting gradually better throughout until, by the summer of 2014, he just looked far too good for league 1.

But Evans, in his one season, is probably the most dominant I've seen 1 player at any level.

I stand by my answer :)

Maguire spent longer with us in this league than Ched & Billy, and our defence became noticeably awful when he left. Instrumental player.
