-------Alan Kelly

Bradshaw Jags McGraph Quinn

Gillespie Mccall Brown Whitehouse

Hello it's Kevin Blackwell.Just found this computer logged on in a hotel lobby so thought I'd give you my best ever United team.

GK ) Kevin Blackwell (I was registered as a player and should have played, everyone can see that except for that Fookin ref on tuesday)

RB) Lee Baxter,I feel bad for leaving this lad out so thought I'd put him in the team even if it was out of position.

LB ) Lee Hendrie, again out of position but I wanted to find a place for my favourite ever player (after me) to wear a united shirt.

CH ) Andy Taylor (need I say more)

CH ) Darius Henderson, This lad gives his all and will run his heart out for you right up until he gets sent off. He can play in any position as well a real squad player

M) Steve Ludlam

M) Stephen Quinn

M) Steve Ludlam

M) Stephen Quinn (as you can see I have packed my midfield with ball winning, jinky dribbling, drop a ball on a sixpence, box to box players)

CF ) Ched ( I can hit any wall from 10 yds) Evans

CF ) Chris Guthrie (now you can see why I had to put Darius in the defence it was the only way I could guarantee him a game)

Subs Lensy,Sitsy,Dazzy,Duncsy,Quinny,Cressy,Morgsy,Cotsy,Yeatsy and anyone else who's name I can alter to a nickname with a Y on the end. Except for Pinchy,Foxy and Linzy of course

Wayne Quinn never was a full back. He had less than a good season as a wing back, got found out when they went out of fashion, and retired from the pro game whilst still in his mid to late 20s. He wasn't a fraction of the left back that Naysmith is. But if you started watching in the early 90s I guess your choice is understandable.

For me, the choice there would be Ted Hemsley, but I'm an old git.

Pretty close to Mickel's with a couple of tweaks.

1 Alan Hodgkinson
2 Len Badger

8 Keith Edwards
9 Mick Jones
10 Tony Currie
11 Gil Reece

Subs

Controversial choices coming here: Again only picking players I've seen And bollox to this positional crap, it's 1-11

1. McAllister (but for Rodney Marsh would've become top keeper in the country)

2. Badger

3. Hemsley

4. Jagielka

5. Colquhoun (c)

6. Hockey

7. Woodward

8. Edwards

9. Deane

He was a left back. And a very good one, albeit for one season. We are talking about players, playing in a United shirt. Naysmith is solid and over his whole career has been a very good player. However, IMO, Quinn's season or so in the mid to late 90's was better than Naysmith's last season. If you base in on your interpreation (i.e. how good a player they were) then you'd have to consider people like David white, Don Hutchinson, Graeme Stuart, Keith Curle, Michael Vonk, Gordon Cowans, etc. These players might not necessarily have performed well in a United shirt.

I missed Roger Nilsen and Dean Saunders out of my team. Stick em on the bench for now.

Wim Jonk was a piggy

Agree with some of what you said here though.

Whoops meant to say Micheal Vonk!? Remember him? Big dutch centre half with funny nose. Decent centre half, but injury prone and a liability. Played well for City for years though.

Yeh I remember Michael Vonk. Didnt think of him at first. Yeh he was hard as nails wasnt he? Big bent nose and a head like a battering ram. As I recall he was one of our unfortunate casualties with injury though. In fact, didnt he have to retire at the lane cos he had a bad one?

I remember we got him and David White both from City around the same time.

Imposter! I'm the 'real' Kevin Blackwell

-------- Me (Blackwell)

Monty Henderson Davies Fortune Taylor

Stewart Walker Quinn Cresswell

---------- Halford

This squad is like having a 15 players as monty, Quinny, hendo and cressy put in so much effort it counts for 2 players!? in fact monty is a CM and he is playing righ back, so he could even make up 3 people!?

Go on then my attempt

An all-time 11, would probably have to include Gillespie (no, not Keeeeef!), Pace, Hagan and a few others. But as a young 'un I can't make that judgement, better wait for SF and Dingledog as they are real old codgers!

simon tracey ahead of allan kelly???
are you mad.

he was kelly's understudy and the only reason he played in the play off final is because of injury.

definaty think kelly gotta be no 1 with deane, whitehouse, jags and Mr Bassett as manager

Of the players I've seen in red and white, playing at their best, I'd go for:

Brown

Naughton Jagielka Colqhoun Nilsen

Whitehouse

Woodward Currie Sabella

Deane Agana

Brown ahead of Kelly?
Naughton ahead of Badger?
Whitehouse in the holding position?

Just to show how little I know I thought Curtis Woodhouse would play for England!

cant remember much of brown and wasnt rround when badger was.

as for england.
i could write a list.

as for england. i could write a list.

Players I thought would/might play for England at senior level but didn't;

Wayne Quinn (thought he had a good chance but lost his way)
Michael Tonge (thought he had a chance when he first came to prominence)
Lee Morris (looked a world beater before we sold him to Derby)
Kyle Naughton (might still, if he can get regular PL football)
Kyle Walker (absolute cert if he continues the way he is)

Apart from that (and I might be forgetting one or two) – I didn’t think anyone else would realistically. Even with my biggest red and white coloured specs on!

I think Kyle Naughton can become as good as Ashley Cole, but he simply must get regular Prem football and also become more muscular. At the moment he's a long shot.

Kyle Walker has the pace and power, but needs to develop a little more finesse. He must also improve his positioning and decision making. So to me he's an outside bet, but has more of a chance.

The other key to it is hunger. Earning so much so young having achieved so little simply has to take the edge off a player.

Im 33 first game in 84 season after promotion from the 4th division so my best team would be 1 Kelly 2 Naughton 3 Woodhouse 4 Jagielka 5 Morgan 6 Holdsworth 7 Morris (Colin) 8 Brown 9 Agana 10 Deane 11 Whitehouse Gk sub Kenny 14 Edwards 15 Bryson 16 Beattie 17 Booker Manager Bassett sorry if it looks a bit of a random order ive done it with my phone !

Tracey was a much better keeper than Kelly.
The thing that let Tracey down was when the backpass rule came in. Tracey was no footballer and couldn't alter his game. But purely as a keeper he was outstanding, I seem to remember he was on standby for England duty on a couple of occasions

Tracey was a much better keeper than Kelly.

It's an old argument, but I'd say Tracey at his very best was the better keeper, but his peak was shortlived. Kelly was consistently excellent, and occasionally brilliant, year on year.

But I should point out that I was only ickle at the time. I thought all our players were amazing.

:)

You asked fans for their best Blades X1. A fan responds to your wishes and then you criticise him! How could you do that?

Tracey was better than Kelly and with him in the team we have won more games than when Kelly was in goal (even in the top division)
