Don't care what everyone thinks about us looking "a bang average league 1 club", it all depends on how these guys gel and play together!

Who would've put liecester as champions last season!?
Why didn't Chelsea win it!?
It's all guess work, we just have to hope that Wilder guess's come good.
If not........We're fooked.

Personally think so, we've drastically improved from last season in nearly all positions

Ask the following questions regarding the best 11.

1. Has the defence, midfield and forwards been strengthened considerably since last season.

2. And has it been improved as above since the Bolton game?

To one.....Defence no better, no worse.
Midfield...no better, no worse
Forwards...a little better.

2. Defence....No.
Midfield...No
Forwards...a little better.

So for me, player wise/talent we are no better off IMHO. Whether the players have it in them to come together, and for Wilder to be more savvy tactically time will tell. But at this point I predict no better place in the table than last season sadly.
Is that because you know the new players well - or is it pure guesswork?

I think so

I think we can honestly say that for the first time apart from right back we have at least 2 specialist players in each position.

We now don't have to play Basham at centre back or a centre back at left back or a striker at left wing, etc...

Brilliant transfer window, team finally looks like a squad of real players, some young, so experienced perfect mix

One con is that with so much of a change it might take a while for them to work well together, fans have to be patient, give it till XMAS before we start becoming critical of players and manager.

This season we might not get promotion but the team is looking in good shape

Much better than past season, where transfer windows have slow and when it shuts, their is a long list of players where we just left it to late to get.

Wilder and his transfer team have done better than last year and seasons before, really exciting team.

Absolutely! Most exciting one for years :)

Ok so I just read what you put and can't 100% see how this is successful. We have needed to bring in 2 players on loan because of the shit we have brought in previously, so these will need replacing again because they are loans and not perminent. I don't see why if we sell players we can't replace by buying instead of loaning. I personally don't see these 3 additions making this into an exciting team all of a sudden, as up until now we have been extremely average.

Moan moan fuckin moan!

It's been successful in that we have cleared out loads of utter dross on massive wages. It's been successful in that the players we have brought in won't bleed us dry for years to come. There is no one in the squad now on wages so high that we have to pay them off. It's also a success in that we look to have a squad on paper no worse than last years despite saving loads on wages and bringing in decent transfer fees

It's been unsuccessful in that we are long, long way off being anything like a promotion side. We are still massively weak in midfield and have 4 centre halves who have never put in a full season of consistent performances at this level. We have sold arguably the only players we had who could attract a fee so there is no longer any chance to raise extra fees in January. The money we have raised from Adams and DCL is unlikely to be seen again so we will have to move players around again in January to add to the squad

It could have been worse but it's been a great insight into where we are. We are now a middling League One club . We do what clubs who have spent most of their existence at this level do. Have to wheel an deal and hope to come across the right formula. Looking at the squad we should have enough to avoid being in a relegation fight but not enough to challenge the best sides. Until something changes at board room level then this is where we are at. There is no point in pretending otherwise. The only chance we have is that Wilder can build a side in the way Bassett and Warnock did and get us up. It's highly unlikely to happen this season though

Do you think taking Brayford out with the ability we know he has is an improvement now we have Freeman there.
Adding the Ebanks lad over whom? Considerably better than What we had? Maybe The left back could be better than Hussey.
We have brought In players deemed not good enough for the clubs they are at, therefore they are L1 quality at best.
As we are in L1, do we look at them as being the difference to being an also ran to a contender? I'm afraid I don't.
Looking at them as players it's average. We need to hope the manager is able to make something from them to get us up.
Some might say playing above themselves and performing a miracle.

Just my opinion.

We'll see but on first glance not really..

Lots of players out.
Sold best 2 young players and not re-invested the money.
Bought cheap and loans, except for Moore. The signs aren't great.
It feels like a Nigel I window in many ways.

We're very thin on the ground by he has signed players who can adequately cover another position. No CM is ridiculous.

We prob ably have enough to scrabble to mid-table.

Let's see what Kev thinks

Thanks Roy. I have reviewed my expectations accordingly,

Well, forgive my negativity, but the squad looks like a bang average League 1 squad in nearly every position. There is no longer a single player in that side where you think 'God, we had better not sell him'.
We won't finish above half way because we are just plain all over the pitch.

This is the most accurate post on here all evening.

The squad looks average at best.

Yeah yeah brilliant. Selling a rising star for peanuts and getting a crock and a striker who will probably have to play out of position. Yeah yeah absolutely brilliant.

The board might yet surprise us. We've managed to push through the odd last gasp deal in the past...outwards.

It's petered out badly today. Very poor business at the tail end (even if we did do good business in earlier weeks - Duffy, O'Connell, Clarke, Moore).

And Wilder created a bit of a rod for his own back by raising expectations about what we were after (in terms of positions we were looking at) and in mentioning actual players we'd tried for but failed to get.

Just hope he doesn't come out with a stream of pathetic excuses about "how hard we tried", "how difficult it is" and "how unfair the wages were that players wanted". Not interested. He'll just have to work his magic on what we have got.

How can it be a moan, we are bringing in loan players and selling up young talent, signing journey men. Hardly impressive signings for a club in the relegation zone I division 3.

#gamechanging

DP, why not just wait and see how these players perform before writing them off? - same goes for every other negative nelly on here!
I am not comparing our squad to Leicester's squad but look how their 'bang average' looking squad got on last season.

Give them a break ffs.

If after several more games they are proven to be shite then fire away - but don't write them off before they've even pulled the shirt over their head.

Hopefully we surprise people and get ourselves on a run that gives the team confidence. We have a modest squad for this level though so we will have to play above ourselves . Can be done though

I think with all of Wilders teams, the team is always better than the sum of its parts. Look at Northampton as a prime example.

We have a small tight nit squad now and although we have had a slow start, there were signs against Oxford the this team can recover well. It was probably as important for Wilder not to change that over getting in a number of players. Chapman started showing his worth on Tuesday so all in all, we are quite strong.

Wilder said he wanted 5 last week and he got 3. Not bad on paper but I imagine the Wolves lad will have been his 4th or 5th choice for centre half.

It's strange how the midfield position seemed to be the last thing on his mind as the weeks went by. Coutts must have made him change his mind

I think that we may have got together half a dozen players who could be among the best in the division on their day in Fleck, Sharp, Lavery, Coutts, Moore and Duffy.

We've also got Chapman and Clarke who could both be very influential and Landell and Lafferty should strengthen the team defensively. Overall we've gotten rid of some real dross some on big wages and I think all things being equal we're as good as last season's team because the only player that we've sold who we'll actually miss from last season is maybe Adams.

My problem is the lack of depth in the squad now, especially as nothing can change now till January. If the likes of Fleck doesn't settle or Coutts reverts to type, we're basically stuffed in centre midfield, and who else can play Basham's roll?

I think with Fleck being his star signing, bigging up Basham all summer and an improvement out of Coutts, he thought adding another to the mix wasn't going to guarantee an improvement.

No. He didn't have the financial backing to do what he wanted. He didn't have the financial backing to gamble. He had to beg to sign anything and has had to make his own capital and wages by getting rid of what he can whether he wanted to or not. Just get used to it. We are no longer kings of this division in terms of financial pulling power for players. We are now operating (with CW consent) in a true 3rd tier position. We have to sell to fund what CW wants to do. McCabe and Prince will just cover the shortfall on operating costs.

It is all relative. If we had an owner with mega billions or still access to parachute payments we would splash the cash. We don't have either of those. The new mantra is that the club has to be self financing. However short sighted you and I may feel that is, that is the reality. Stuff like Morsy and Morgan signing was a load of bollocks.

What pisses me off is that he seems to have gone about stuff arse over tit and we have ended up with fuck all of what we really wanted or needed in terms of players but with a surplus in cash which we now can't use to finance what we need!

No goalscorer.

No solid, consistent all rounder.

No way should we be going without another midfielder. Simple as.

Lots of players, but mostly very questionable quality and we haven't got the balance right in terms of the positions they are in. 3 wingers we have signed ffs, including one 18 year old kid. 2 LB's. Those positions didn't need that many signings. That's at least 1 CM, and 1 proper goalscorer we could have got instead had we been sensible and only signed 2 wingers (at the most) and 1 good left back that we didn't have to replace almost immediately due to his lack of ability.

I would possibly argue that both Clarke and Sharp are proven goal scorers at this level, though I concede neither are in their prime. If I was clutching at straws I'd also argue that Done, when played up top, has had a good goal scoring record.

While not the best in the league, I would say that quite strong. I also think we have the wide positions & goalkeeper covered or at least improved.

I'm far more worried about the lack of bite in midfield, and the largely unproven defence. If I'm being picky I'd also say that Wilder may wish to play 4-2-3-1 and I can't think of anyone other than Scougall who can play the central AM.

Ultimately though I think we're all just waiting to see if the tactics and recruitment so far has been poor or whether our poor start has been down to a lack of cohesion or 'chemistry'.

One of the things I've come to deal with is that, as a League One team, and given my not giving enough of a fuck to pay attention to other teams at this level, almost everyone we bring in is a relative unknown to me. Ebanks-Ladell, for instance. All I know of him is Roy's view from thread and a Wolves mate who sings his praises. But really I can't get excited about that until I've seen him play half a dozen games and got to know him.

What I will say, trying to ignore the negativity that's overcome me with our poor start, is that Wilder's had a hell of a job to do this Summer. He's managed the clear out that Adkins couldn't and already made far more signings than this time last year. Player's have come in, several awful ones have left, money's been made out of a couple, and Saturday gave me some reason to be a bit more optimistic.

Am I expecting us to make a big push for the automatics? Not really. Do I think Wilder's put us in a better position with respect to the squad as a whole? Probably. I said after the Rochdale game that I expected us to be better than last season yet still well short of where we want to be. If the additions today take off, and we start to see more from the likes of Fleck, Duffy, and Clarke (all three of which I see as good signings), then I'll see this window as something of a success. Largely because I thought the squad that ended last year was absolutely disgraceful.

I know it was a mess of our own making (well, Clough's mostly), but we should at least acknowledge that Wilder had a huge task ahead of him when taking the reins.
