Good to see United being the most representative club academy on the Stadio Olympico pitch right now
And it's not even Cat 1!

EPPP started in 2012 and after that some clubs had Cat1And it's not even Cat 1!
3 players from our academy. Say whatever you like about our club but that is something we should be proud of:Good to see United being the most representative club academy on the Stadio Olympico pitch right now

I agree and it sounds there is more to come.Hope we can hang on to a few now'3 players from our academy. Say whatever you like about our club but that is something we should be proud of:
Two in the welsh brooks and RND. I don’t know about foreign sides but domestically I think man united and Swansea were at least up there with us.Was discussing this last night, 4 academy graduates in the England squad and one in the Welsh. Was trying to think of another club with more at the tournament.
On a side note can we go full Sheffield Utd way if we win it like the shammers do about 66![]()
Maybe, but surely the problem was more to do with a poorly run club, a poorly managed and the lack if the right investment in the first team.Bad selling regime , no point creating great players for other clubs to be successful with them !
Fair point but I wouldn't put Berge and Baldock ( yes they are good players ) , in the same bracket as Maguire , Walker , Jaggs etc I suppose were not a big club so the best players will leave , but instead of buying Berge and Ramsdale , just keep out academy stars and throw money at them to keep them ! I mean Ramsdale was our academy player and we paid 18 mill to get him backMaybe, but surely the problem was more to do with a poorly run club, a poorly managed and the lack if the right investment in the first team.
If the club had been far better run, particularly at the top none of the players might have felt the need to leave.
We were nowhere near good enough and nowhere near the premier league to be able to hold into some of the talent we had.
Things look much better now, far better than they have for a long time.
Just imagine if we keep Ramsdale, Berge and Bakdock. That would never have never been even likely a few years back.
If we had stood in their way the chances are that they wouldn't be in the England team at the Euros right now. It's happened as far as I can remember 1967 Mick Jones & Alan Birchenall 1967 £100,000 each, Deane & Fjortoft, Beattie, and we haven't even Got to those in the England team, but we couldn't stand in their way could we ?
The sweet spot for us as an upper championship/lower prem side is probably to hold on to them until they’re in their early 20’s.If we had stood in their way the chances are that they wouldn't be in the England team at the Euros right now.
Once you get a reputation for stopping players from bettering themselves you will soon find that good prospects don't want to come to your club, whereas if you have reputation for developing youngsters and letting them move on to fulfill their ambitions then they will be queueing to sign for you.
Whether we could have got more money for them is a different matter but we have to let them move on when the time is right for them.
It's hard balance to strike.
Berge is 23 and already has 24 international caps. He's probably ahead of any you mentioned when we sold them (plus DCL and Brooks).Fair point but I wouldn't put Berge and Baldock ( yes they are good players ) , in the same bracket as Maguire , Walker , Jaggs etc I suppose were not a big club so the best players will leave , but instead of buying Berge and Ramsdale , just keep out academy stars and throw money at them to keep them ! Completely agree that's the sweet spot for us, but how about them if they feel that we're stifling their career ambitions. The sweet spot for us as an upper championship/lower prem side is probably to hold on to them until they’re in their early 20’s.
That way for the exceptional prospect we’ll extract good value somewhere around 15-40 million depending on their position and experience whilst also having them make over 100 appearances for the blades whilst not hindering their chances of playing at the very top.
It will also likely mean that the good prospects like RND and Lowton will stay and go on play for a significant amount of time at the club helping us build a long term core of homegrown players. Unfortunately we didn’t have that luxury as a league one club but we should be able to do that now.
Maybe but players can very quickly be catapulted into the England reckoning like white and Phillips. If we were in the champ and then sold a top prospect at 21 they’d likely be in the England reckoning the summer that we sold them so it wouldn’t hold them back really. Ultimately if they signed a deal at 18 they’d still be under contract at 20/21 and if they didn’t want to sign a new one united would sell without standing in their way at all.Completely agree that's the sweet spot for us, but how about them if they feel that we're stifling their career ambitions.
If they're good enough they'll want to be close to full international squads by that age and that's never going to happen whilst we're not in the Premier League.
As I said, it's a very difficult balance to strike and if we get it wrong it could stifle a flow of young talent.
Four in the England squad is a great advert for our academy but the reality is that we sold them all as young players and that's what will attract the best future young players to us.
Brooks wasn't in our academy ? He came from Man City ! Plus Ronaldo Tevez weren't in the Man Utd Academy which is what this tread is about as for Pogba again didn't come from Man Utd academy and as far as i know still plays for Man Utd .Berge is 23 and already has 24 international caps. He's probably ahead of any you mentioned when we sold them (plus DCL and Brooks).
Man United sold Ronaldo, Pogba and Tevez. There's a club in South Barnsley that didn't sell![]()
Such a shame everyone of them was given away for peanuts
Think brooks joined us at 14/15 on scholarship terms so did join and then come through our academy. Don’t know where pogba came from initially but did play for man united’s academy in the FA youth cup final against us so will have joined them as a scholar as well.Brooks wasn't in our academy ? He came from Man City ! Plus Ronaldo Tevez weren't in the Man Utd Academy which is what this tread is about as for Pogba again didn't come from Man Utd academy and as far as i know still plays for Man Utd .
You're coming across like a Wendy nowBrooks wasn't in our academy ?
Pogba left Man U on a free and they bought him back for £90m.as for Pogba again didn't come from Man Utd academy and as far as i know still plays for Man Utd .
Yeah, Brooks was obviously Premier League ready at 14/15 years old. Our academy had nothing to do with developing him at all.Brooks wasn't in our academy ? He came from Man City ! Plus Ronaldo Tevez weren't in the Man Utd Academy which is what this tread is about as for Pogba again didn't come from Man Utd academy and as far as i know still plays for Man Utd .
Jebbison. After that there’s a few outside shouts in Maguire, dewhurst, Hackford and potentially the newly acquired peck.Who would you predict to be our next academy product in the England squad?
Gonna take a punt on Hackford, would also back Jebbo but he’s not strictly ours, we could have a good few turning out in the next 10yrs from the current youth crop!
