Substitutions

Yep, very odd.

Carruthers actually gave us impetus. But Duffy and Bash going off (neither looked tired) were turning points.

Wilder knows best and all that but still...

Stupid subs, especially Caruthers who was absolutely useless (unless Bash was injured).

I can see why he brought Donaldson on. Keep two upfront. pose a threat to them and give our defence an outball.

Surely taking Duffy off was more to keep him fresh and not get potentially injured and both Fleck and Coutts are out now?

Should have took Sharp off first for Brooks. He's the gaffer though, I'm not so...

Suicidal to replace Bash with Carruthers when down to 10 men. Brooks was awesome at the Sty but done nothing since. Needed to stay solid and try to nick it but those subs were bonkers.

To be fair though he could have made an excellent substitution that massively changed the game in our favour, but suppose the opposition score off a strikers backside against the run of play and it's no, no, it must have been that awful substitution.

I think brooks needs a rest for a few weeks , he’s not pulling any trees up for me .

Yeah but he didn’t - he made stupid substitutions.

Carruthers one for me was abit silly. I would have chucked CCV on.
Carruthers plays like Joe Cole after he'd left Chelsea, attempts some nice tricks but only occasionally it comes off. Defensively he struggles to get anywhere near to recovering the ball once he's lost it.

Wilder just threw attacking players on the pitch with no obvious plan like Hodgson used to do for England, so Donaldson ended up lumbering around at right back-ish, Brooks tried one run that didn't work so gave up trying, and Carruthers just had one chance to put a cross in but wasn't quick enough.

Taking Duffy and Basham off was complete madness, especially as we weren't committing anyone forward, if we were going to sit back, better to have the right players for the job.

If he'd thrown those players on and gone for the win, then nobody would be complaining, throwing those players on and sitting back in our own half was stupid. Fleck cost us the chance to win, Wilder's idiotic subs probaly cost us the point.

At 10 men, Duffy drops back into deeper role. Makes sense. But suddenly there’s a gap between the midfield and the strikers and we start giving the ball away. Brooks is a good shout to fill that hole but as a replacement for Billy, not Duffy.

Brooks also neshed out of one tackle. Really weak.

Wilder was trying to be a smart ass tonight and it backfired. We were on for a point if nothing else.

There is a time and place to throw the kitchen sink, that wasn't tonight.

This is Wilder and why he’s so highly thought of by us.

Yes, he’s cavalier but I’d rather that be our hall mark.

Duffy struggles to last 90 mins. How much more with a man less?

I would have taken Sharp off ten minutes earlier. Unlucky to hit the woodwork twice but was on the periphery for long periods. We clearly need another option to help out Leon. A fit Ched may have been useful tonight.

Carruthers was the main one of contention. I thought he would go Carruthers for Lundstram.

I don’t recall anyone having an issue though with taking a defender off and bringing on a forward player at Hillsborough!

Did donaldson actually touch the ball

Starting to worry that Wilder is begining to believe in his own publicity, I think tonight’s substitutions where playing to the cameras a bit, a case of “look how positive I am, an attacking manager in all situations”

Bristol had little quality tonight, if we had tightened midfield up after the red card we would ha e had a comfortable and valuable point.

Instead we went reckless gung ho for the second time in the last three home games and again threw away the chance of getting something from a difficult situation.

I could understand the first two subs, but we needed Basham's experience for the closing minutes

Yes but we weren't down to 10 men at Hillsborough. I love Wilder and the way we play but that was frustrating tonight, we needed to see it out, a point would've been a good result in the circumstances.

Ten minutes before he was subbed I said to my son "Bash is injured". He could be a doubt for next week

The bloke next to me said he thought Basham had signalled to the bench that he'd done his groin and needed to come off.

Think if he's injured along with Fleck being suspended we might continue to struggle for results in the next few games. I've little doubt we'll pick up again soon and I'm still confident of the top 6.
