I support withdrawing Mousset, he was clearly spent, but by sending Billy on we immediately lost both the threat of a breakaway goal and an out-ball. Does Slav really rate Brewster so poorly that he can't send him on when we're 2-0 up and bossing the game?

We all know about Moose's fitness issues but Ndiaye is also slightly worrying, he can't seem to last 90 minutes unless he has to. And, whilst McBurnie continues to underperform, at least he kept their back-line busy, which wasn't the case when he went off, we just invited pressure on ourselves.

Thank goodness for human dynamo Ben Osborn, notwithstanding his limitations!

So much experience for paying off!! At 3-0 I thought we'd end up with 5 or 6 but we just handed the initiative to them. We just looked like we would concede with every attack for the last 15 minutes. McGoldrick and Sharp did nothing but our midfielders hardly helped.. Barnsley just started launching the ball forward and our midfield, what midfield I hear you say, just melted away. It was a terrible end to what could have been a four or five goal win. I though Fleck was very poor and almost non existent, Stevens seemed to be stood off his man a lot and allowed too many crosses in from that side. How he relied on JOC! I honestly thought it was prettyy hard to tell first half who was the worst team. The number of times players couldn't control the ball with their first touch, the number of bad choices in passing and giving the ball away made it a poor performance only glossed over by three good goals. The number of overhit balls down the outside into space was ridiculous and just gave the goalie chance to launch it downfield again. Until we can get some bite in midfield so the back line can be protected we will suffer the same agonies nearly every match. Anymore late goals and we are going to end up like Wednesday where it becomes a mental problem for the players.

Fleck and Norwood offered no cover for the defence whatsoever in those last 20 for the whole match

I think at 3-0 up Slav didnt expect the team to go backwards, which they did. We have such a limited fragile squad there is only so much you can do and Moose was clearly spent. Dare I say it put Burke up front at least he can run and..... he can run.

I know it’s just taken for granted that Mousset can only play part of a football match. I wonder if this is how it will be for his entire career - and if so, is there some way this fact can be reflected in the new contract we will presumably offer him later this year …

If he scores two goals an hour, he’ll do for me…

Sadly our biggest problems are Fleck, & to a slightly lesser extent Stevens & Norwood. They simply cannot get anywhere near the levels they were hitting pre covid, sad as it is to say. To be fair to Norwood despite his faults he is still the best of his type that we have, & when we are on the front foot & attacking the three of them can have good moments, but as soon as we are on the back foot they are no barrier for the defence at all. Especially Flecky, but how many times is the first thought of them to pass backwards, even when trying to advance. It should be a club fine to anyone who passes to Fleck when he is facing our goal, it really is shocking to see from a player who has given us so many highs, but there we are.
I am not going to insult any of them by bad mouthing & calling them stupid names just to try & illicit a laugh from readers, it is disrespectful & not my style, but constructive views on their strengths & weaknesses is fine, but for me while they cannot perform to their strengths they are holding back our development. When Slav can replace them with players he wants I think we will see much better performances.

Is Brewster becoming not just a waste of the fee and the wages, but also a waste of a space on the bench? As others on this forum have said, it seems that there is no circumstance where it's considered beneficial to bring him on- for all his faults I'd rather have had Burke as an option on the bench today than RB.

I'm not sure what some of you saw with McBurnie. I'm not the biggest fan but thought he did a decent job today considering he's not played recently.

As for taking him off first half, that would be far from wise. Mousset and Ndiaye had to come off so you're basically screwed if anyone else gets injured.

The problem with bringing Brewster on instead of Sharp or Didsy is that they’ve earned their right to play with their performances.
Apart from 10 mins as sub v Stoke, Didzy has been abysmal for a long time. Slows the game down, gives the ball away and one of the worst finishers I have ever seen. Did well for us in the more distant past but age has caught up with him and he’s not Championship level any more.

Bringing Basham on saved us the points today.

As others have said, Moose is made of biscuits and is in form, and on a yellow, obvious and necessary to take him off.

The problem is on the bench, Brewster, the only other option with pace is as attractive a proposition as a weeks holiday in Slough, so I can't really blame him for not putting him on tbh.

100% Jebbison back in January, Brewster somewhere else. Until then, what's Hackford up to?

Squad needs major surgery.
I had the misfortune to work in Slough for 11yrs, and your right but I do think that Brewster is a cut above that level

Yeah I don't mean send him to Burton, I'd be trying to get him a loan abroad, Bundesliga would be good.

SJ on how to improve

"It's not a question about one player, it's about team work, team personality and knowledge on how to read the game in different moments. We didn't read nothing, we were completely blind in the last 12 minutes. It's not acceptable."

He’s got to be fucking kidding.
It’s him that makes it all about individuals.
It’s he that has a set of players not playing as a team.
He talks about team and then about individuals not reading the game. Which one is it?
It is he that appears not to read a game (see OP on this thread)
It’s he that sets them up in a style that means they can’t adapt.

The buck stops with him.

Not sure where this goes if he is now starting to blame the players.
That old worn phrase of “he’s lost the dressing room”

Yo, Can of Fish
You fucking lemon.

Garbage. This is largely Wilder’s team of bottling has beens.

Erase what wilder did. That’s the spirit. Never happened. Never took us from 6 years of pure shit in league one to 9th in the prem. that last season defines his whole service.

He gave us some great times then absolutely fucked us up for years to come with the worst set of signings in the history of football, blamed everyone else and walked out of the back door. The fact that nobody has offered him a job since speaks volumes.

He’ll be back and he will be successful elsewhere. We reached the limits of our capability and financial reach before it imploded. Doesn’t erase what went on before.

Financial reach? He wasted a fucking fortune at a time when we were spending more than most. Here’s an idea. When he does eventually get a job at some desperate footballing shit hole, go and support them.

Of course that’s the way it works.

Remember Mousset was on a yellow better off than on a red
My comment was about the suggestion I follow whatever arse end team wilder ends up at, not moose on a yellow. He’d done his job by then

Mousset had to come off though, so it’s either Sharp or Brewster, the latter has no hold up play..

^^^^^This^^^^^^^

It's easy to criticise the subs, but as much as commentators and some of us might like to think that we have a wealth of attacking options, we actually don't have that many in form.

Mousset was blowing out of his arse, and had on a couple of occasions looked like he was cramping up, so he needed to be subbed before the inevitable injury happened. Brewster has a bit of pace but doesn't put in as much as Sharp, nor can he keep possession like Didsy.

As daft as it might sound, the best sub for Mousse today might have been Burke. They were pressing such a high line towards the end that he would have been through on goal every time we cleared the ball. Whether he could have avoided tripping over his own feet is another matter of course.

We didn’t need hold up play certainly we didn’t have any while we had the big lad with no socks on
What was working was pace and width

The problem with bringing Brewster on instead of Sharp or Didsy is that they’ve earned their right to play with their performances. Sorry to say but Brewster had to wait his time. He will get chances to play and he has to take them when they come, but Sharp/ Didsy haven’t really done anything wrong and they have both registered goals… Brewster hasn’t and he can’t retain the ball…
Isn’t 3-0 up that time though? If not when is?

what was Slav doing with the subs?! We were cutting them apart with pace, so brought on Sharp, McGoldrick and Basham!!!
I'm beginning to think that Slav is as stubborn as Wilder. Or maybe he just doesn't accept that the definition of madness is to continue doing the same thing and expect a different outcome.
