Style of play

They don't have a style of play, it doesn't exist.
And in the last 40 years there have been more games when we walk out of the stadium without a fucking clue about what they were trying to do than when there was any real pattern. Whether we tried to play hoof or decent football, played against Liverpool or Macclesfield Town, it made no difference, most games involving us have no familiar pattern that shows anything has been worked on.

And whilst ever the club constantly succeeds in signing it's seventh choice of player because he's the cheapest option and has that tragic ability for a footballer "VERSATILITY" ie, shit at everything, there will never be a style of play.
Why do we need a fixed “style of play” ?
Different opponents will necessitate different styles. What works in the Championship probably would not in the PL
Get decent players and they can adapt.

Yes they do, but there is still A style of play, whatever that style of play is.
You look at United and wonder WTF

You think a player being versatile and able to play in multiple different systems, roles and styles is a bad thing? The best players in the world are the ones who can do that and remain effective

Some do, but not the sort we sign

Creating or adopting a certain style of play can bring its own problems.
This can narrow the field when looking at the transfer market and cause restrictions for squad selection.
As said already players need to be versatile and have the ability to adapt to what the role demands for any given situation.

I want to see us change our style.

Back 4 with possession is what is needed now.

But to do this you need to sign players that can do it. We seem to struggle in the signing players part.

Whatever formation we play I want us to be energetic, pressing high and attacking at pace. I’ve been bored to death at the Euros with sides who get in and around the box and are too afraid to either cross or have a shot, instead they pass it all the way back to the keeper and then they end up losing possession a couple of passes thereafter.

You can pass it around all you want, if you’re not having a shot at goal, you’re not going to win.

I don't think we have ever been energetic, pressing high, attacking at pace under Wilder, more like tippy tappy, possession based pass to death until a gap opened up,this was when we were at our best,at our worst in the PL,we couldn't keep the ball, string two or three passes together trying to play out,and coughed up when pressed.

No goalie or 2 goalies?
A different way of looking at it

There’s lots of stuff on YouTube about Bologna’s philosophy…

And we need something new, something modern, something radical to make any kind of progress imho
