Sty Experience

I didn't go on Sunday (I try to avoid the area, let alone the 'stadium'), but it seems the police allowed a scenario where it was almost open season on Blades - young, old, male, female, the pigs don't mind.

I went to both the lane and to the Sty this season (my first trip to the Sty for a derby)

Bramall Lane
At the lane before the game, it was clear from the way that it was Policed that the intention of the Police was to protect the Away supporters. After all they are the minority, so steel fences were erected and the Away fans were coralled into Bramall lane, only one way in all other routes in (4-5 side roads were blocked off). Fair enough. I've seen trouble around London Road and Bramall lane in the past, so this seemed logical.

It was logical provided that the Wednesday fans stayed on the designated path, the police made if difficult and a ball ache to approach the ground from any other direction.

So policing around the Blades end of the ground was lower key and it seemed that they didn't have the response teams ready for any pre match trouble on the Blades approaches to the ground. As a result decent Blades fans ended up sitting ducks for the Wednesday fans waltzing through.

The Sty
As we drove to park at my mates we came round past Hillsborough corner which was pack with piggies. We then came down the hill before the game, crossed the tram lines and over the bridge and walked to the ground (don't know any of the st names). There were Police vans and police lined up outside the food stalls/ pork sandwich shops on our way to the ground. Blades and Pigs were able to mix freely and although there were obvious small groups of pigs and Blades milling outside the ground, it was fairly decent and I even bumped into a few pigs I know and had a bit of good natured banter (enjoy your cup final, I've brought my paint brushes, where do I get disinfected after the game etc). A few Blades were singing outside the ground, but no sign of trouble. It was how a pre match should be.

After the game, the steel fence was there, but not being used. It was a heavy police presence as I said, but I saw no trouble, relatively speaking we were out fairly swiftly and perhaps because of where we parked, we saw no trouble.

Conclusion
All in all. It seemed that the two games were miles apart in terms of policing. At the lane they seemed to want fans entirely segregated, no mixing at all, but it didn't work because their focus was on protecting the away fans in the designated path. Away fans at the sty weren't offered this level of protection. If it had kicked off then it could've turned nasty.

One thing I hadn't realised until now was that we could've taken the tram to the game. Never realised it went so close to their ground.

Maybe the result had something to do with the deployment (or not) of the metal fences.
If we had pasted them by 4 or 5 then I think the whole atmosphere would have been completely different and the challenge to the SY Plod altogether different.
There would have been many more incidents of violence after the game.

When I go back there (Swillsborough) on my very infrequent visits to that part of the city it feels like it is in a time warp or something. Not altered since the 80's it seems
OK the tram is modern but the place seems to have stagnated.

If we had won the game I think there would have been a lot more stories on here about Blades fans getting set upon.

There's always been a lot more trouble at the Bramall lane fixture if i remember rightly in the past.

Probably cos the vermin stay around the city centre for longer, seduced by the bright lights and the chance to drink some diamond light (cos Waddle made a song about it)

I guess because its the middle of town makes it worse Highbury.

I think if we'd beaten them, then yeah they may have deployed the Steel fences, not sure how long it takes to deploy them though, if we'd scored two late goals they may not have been ready, I thought the idea was to get these things up at Half time.

Forgot to mention, but we could see that someone let off a flare / smoke bomb at the back of the North Stand at kick off... trouble was that all it did was smoke out the group around them. Muppets

like me i reckon the SYP thought seeing as they'd 'won' there wouldn't be any need. retards

My Hillsborough Experience

Got a lift to Hillsborough with my two Wednesday fan mates.
Had a few drinks with them in the Wetherspoons at Hillsborough surrounded by more Wednesday fans.
Kept myself to myself and tried to avoid talking about the match too loudly in terms of "us" and "them".
Didn't wear colours and just ignored the Wednesday chants (they really do still love Megson!)
Wednesday fans en-masse in Wetherspoons are much the same as United fans en-masse in The Scholar.

Walked down Penistone road to the ground and didn't see any trouble.
Met my United mate outside the away end to give him is ticket.
Enjoyed the first half, the second half not so much.
After the match we walked backed to his car near Owlerton and didn't see any trouble.

There are a few Wednesday idiots who cause trouble and a few United idiots who are just as bad.
Maybe we were just fortunate not to have a run-in with idiots from either side.
It's a pity that anybody who just wants to see the match has to do so in the knowledge they could get threatened or attacked.
It's a shame that more people aren't able to meet up with their Wednesday supporting family and friends for a friendly pre-match drink and banter.
Talking about ALL Wednesday fans as if they are ALL wild animals and scumbags is part of the problem and perpetuates it.

Middlewood Road was inadequately policed past Hillsborough Corner before the game which mean't that any blades would have been totally battered especially when you see retards bombarding trams and the police doing nothing other than saying move on your way. After the game there were more police but they weren't arresting any of the brain dead idiots (saw one father and his teenage daughter both giving large to a blades waiting for the tram - they are just and embodiment of their manager) who ere bouncing round just more of move on your way. I suppose if they arrested all the knobs and they got banning orders the crowds would not be as massive !

>Are you saying all SYP are wendies?
Nooo.. they as in.. you know.. 'them lot'.. oh its a wind up.. sorry fell for it ;)

yep very inadequately, me and my mate got set on by about 15 of the piggy scum just there, 15 on 2! they do like a fair fight dont they

The Titanic was brand new with loads of people on board and it sank. Just because it has a few thousand more fans in than normal it doesn't change the fact that it is a shit hole and they've let the rust develop to disguise the shit.
