Just picked up on a news feed that was sent me earlier, apparently Weirs buddy up at Everton Alan Stubbs who is in charge of all things Under 21 is open to letting players join us on loan to gain experience.

From SkySports.com

"I think it's something that we will think about because it's a big club," Stubbs told Everton's official club website.

"Davey knows the young lads who could benefit the club and benefit him and, if that's the case, and we see if it's right for the player, then why not?

"It will be a great experience for them, but first and foremost we will look and see if it's the right move for the player, because that's what we always do.

"We never send lads out on loan and just leave them. We see if it's the right type of club, whether they play the right type of football, whether it will suit them and whether they will look after the player.

"There are quite a few things we look into before we let the young lads out on loan."

Would rather play our own youngsters or permanent signings;

I want the best players for the positions; I don't care where they're from.

Fair enough we've had some poor loans in the last couple of seasons, but we've had some crackers in the past and players being motivated or not says more about:
a) the player himself, and
b) the manager's ability to motivate,
than the loan system.

For every couple of shit loanees there's been a Gary Cahill, Billy Clarke or Matt Phillips.

Not remotely interested in loanees unless it's a genuine short-term emergency.

For me it kills the identity of the club, prevents continuity, and is anathema to proper medium/long term planning. Frankly, they can all ride out on the same horse that brought them here.

Quite impressed with the interviews given , they all seem grounded individuals who are looking to work hard. Lets hope that's the case.

Under 21s. And the under 21s that aren't good enough to get anywhere near the first team. So they will more than likely be about as much use as that bloke out The Green Mile we signed last year.

Everton have a decent youth setup and have a few players who are more than adequate enough to play "league one" football.

The added benefit that Weir has is that he has worked with these youngsters and he already knows who the capable ones are so he wouldn't be bringing players in blind.

Good quality loans have helped many teams get promoted - including the pigs when they pipped us. 2 or 3 of the right quality can improve a team massively and I'm all for it. What kills the identity of a club is players that aren't good enough and don't give a toss. Unfortunately in recent seasons several of our "own" players have fallen into that category.

That's true, but my thoughts are now influenced by how little we can afford to spend on such loans now. I just don't see the quality coming our way any longer.

I think the real thing to see in this link here is the potential for us to get some good, hungry, youth players. Who hopefully, if picked correctly will have the talent to do the business in league 1.

What is more concerning for me is the idea that we will now provide a feeder service of our best talent straight to Everton. This can only be a good thing in the short-term i.e. helping us to get out of this shit division ASAP. If we don't get out of this division sharpish we'll start to look more like Crewe.

i quite like Crewe actually .. they played us off the park.. ahem.. but yeah.. hopefully we won't become Evertons feeder club

I don't really know what feeder clubs do. They appear to do pretty much nothing. We've had a gazillion links with clubs that have resulted in almost bugger all happening.

If we have a player Everton want, let's be honest they're gonna get him. Basically right now, we're a feeder club to every team in the two divisions above us.

To be fair, Brandy did say he knocked back championship clubs to join the mega blades men.
