Clough suggested yesterday that we may need a big striker for games like yesterday when we struggle to outpass teams. Higdon is out injured at the moment and hopefully we'll find someone with a bit better mobility. Does anyone have any suggestions of strong Premiership or Championship strikers who may be available on loan?

I fear the "strong" striker is a dying breed. With the continuing watering down of the contact side of the game (more noticeable in the top divisions) where even center-halves are more worried about their hair than diving in where they could get hurt, the day of the bustling center forward is over.

An Alan Shearer, someone with a nasty streak who can unsettle defenders just doesn't work any more. Higdon has that to a certain degree and look how he comes under scrutiny of the refs.

What I've seen of him this season , it would be Kevin Davies , mardy arse , refs friend , cheat , full of gamesmanship , and a shit house . Would also help the young uns in the battle . Just what we need.

Slightly off topic but "games like yesterday when we struggle to outpass teams"? Maybe I was at the wrong game but I didn't really notice us trying to outpass anyone. We were more direct yesterday than at any time since Blackwell left - certainly wasn't the pass and move approach of, say, the Tottenham game.

I think our main plan of scoring was to provide Murphy with a through ball like his second vs Swindon. But what happened was that we became too predictable, meaning long passes that were meant to be over the top, became easy headers for their centre halves.

Difficult to think of many in that mould. Even more difficult to think of any we could attract. Leon Clarke, Nick Blackman?

I thought pre-match yesterday, that it was a good opportunity to hurt them with the pace and direct running of Murphy and Che. Sadly, I don't think we saw more than perhaps one example of trying it.

Just a number of aimless hopeful balls, straight on the defenders head. I don't mind a few, trying to create something... but when it's clearly not working, you have to mix it up.

The ultimate annoyance is summed up by their first goal... Nobody wanted the ball, so it's a long kick from Howard, not towards our striker and the hope of a percentage ball, a defensive mistake or picking up the second ball from an uncomfortable defensive header, but to the opposite side of the pitch, allowing their man to play a long ball more accurately straight back up the field and almost instantly helped into the back of the net.

So let me get this straight.....

We are told that O'Grady is part of Brighton's plans and won't be coming back
We then sell Chris Porter having not agreed terms on another striker
We sign no strikers in the window
Then the manager identifies the need for a "strong" striker

Good planning

The key to that is gaining possession in areas where it can be attempted. Murphy is lethal either on the break or when he comes from deep into the space created by the main striker/s pushing on.

Given our status in this division, teams don't give us that sort of room (home or away), and we rely on games opening up in the final quarter to do it. It's been said many times before but we need a CoG style striker to give us a decent plan-A.

While that is crap planning I refuse to ever class getting rid of porter as a negative.

Dexter Blackstock and Grant Holt... maybe? Don't think we should sign anymore though, with the players we have we should be able to get an 11 out there that can create and score goals, providing the manager lets them play positively.

Connor Salmon , Noel Hunter both scoring important goals in the league above, we had car park protest s at the thought of signing them.

Christian nade. The fans in Scotland affectionately know him as "steakbake" due to his portly frame.

He might not play in the Premiership but he did score against Liverpool who are a Premier League team does that count? And he's strong.................

Someone like Sylvain Ebanks Blake would have been worth a try whilst he was available for free.

With us being where we are, we won't be signing the finished article, so we need to take a gamble on either someone with potential, or someone who's lost their way but has the ability.

Adebayor... Well, Spurs don't want him and he can't sign for a Premiership club on loan now so

The same Porter that has scored the same amount of goals on his own in the last 2 games as the entire Blade squad?
Well that's it then, get him back!!
Since the day he came to us he's scored 18 goals in 98 games.
You know people say you're only as good as your last game? They are only kiddin

An ITKer on Mad has said we've approached Blackpool about Steven Davies again. This would make sense if they plan to take Madine on loan.

I think he could do a good job for us but you'd worry about him being injury prone - we've been here before.

Meanwhile we desperately need a positive performance tomorrow night.
