We've been brilliant at the back this season and it's served us really well.

We've played 29 and only conceded 25 goals. Only Liverpool have done better, which is phenomenal when you consider we're playing the same players who took us up.

However, things aren't so rosy upfront. We've only scored 30 goals in the Premier League. You have to go down to Palace for the next team who have scored less. And then Newcastle, Watford, Bournemouth and Norwich.

It's clearly an area Chris knows he needs to improve drastically, having already spent big on Moussett, McBurnie and Robinson.

Currently we have:

Sharp 3
McBurnie 4
Didsy 0
Mousset 5
Clarke
Zivkovic
Robinson (on loan?) 1
Smith

Next season, I'm guessing we'll still have:

Sharp
McBurnie
Didsy
Smith

I think he'll try and sell

Mousset
Robinson

and Clarke and Zivkovic will have left/returned to their parent club.

Clearly, we need to be better upfront. Sure, we're 6th (which is brilliant) but I doubt we'll be able to keep it up at the back as well next season. Plus, assuming Lunny is going (5 goals) and if Mousse goes (5 goals) we'll have lost over 3rd of out goals.

I don't think we'll have anywhere near as much money to spend next season (unless we sell) but yet again upfront is likely to be a priority. We'll likely need to bring in 2/3 new players in those positions (assuming we sell Mousset and Robinson) and given Sharp will be 34 and Didsy will be 32 at the start of the season, we can probably expect less of a contribution in game time from them both.

It will be another busy summer ahead for wheeling and dealing.

What makes you think we will be selling moose? I imagine he will be the first name on the team sheet next season after having a full pre season with us and wilder getting him up to full speed.

Smith one of next season’s 4 strikers, despite looking average in League 1?

Mousset sold, despite being one of our best strikers?

I’m out.

Has Mousset pissed on your marigolds? He's probably our best option going forward.

Top scorer, probably top assister, good finisher and genuinely looks dangerous whenever he comes on. If he'd started last night he'd have made our lives a lot easier.

He had a lull but who wouldn't with the things he's been through in his personal life.

One of those podcasts posted earlier this week, probably the Monday Night Club said that if we had a striker similar to Jamie Vardy then we'd be top 4.

He doesn't seem to fancy Mousset. It might just be because of off the pitch reasons and he has had a few niggles but he hasn't really started many games this year. He's clearly our most skilful, quickest and most dangerous striker, yet he's normally a sub. Strikes me as odd unless he's not pulling his weight in terms of defending from the front.

Just had a look and of his 24 games, 14 have been from the bench.

No way will he look to offload Moose unless he really does show no signs of knuckling down.

When he starts we look far better as he presses quicker than any of our other strikers so we defend far better from the front and his sheer pace and strength mean defenders don't have as much time on the ball.

Sharp and McB try their hardest but for me Moose is our best option providing he gets his down and puts in the work.

He went off the boil a bit after the deaths of a couple of people he knew (one might have been family, can’t remember) and he’s probably the best impact player we’ve got, if you were a tiring defender he’d be the last person you want to see coming on, so it’s not that surprising. It’s his first proper season as a genuine first team player. I’m sure he’ll start some of the forthcoming games.

I hope his 10 minutes last night were down to not being 100% (had strapping on his leg). If not then it's a bit worrying if Wilder's reluctant to give him more than a few minutes when we're looking utterly toothless.

It might help Moose's chances if we played for a win as often as we play for a draw...

Well we were poor up front last night .Apart from one header we were toothless.I admit the two strikers did not have much support but one effort on target playing second from bottom is very poor.It will be a big problem next year more so than this year because of our great defence propping us up .We can not expect them to do it again surely and if we do not have Hendo we will need more goals.

It’s easy to just blame strikers for a lack of goals.
Our real problem is creativity in midfield, although better quality finishing would not go amiss.

Get Clarke off the bench and get a young'un on there, surely one of our academy lads is worth a 10min run in the current climate???
Can't be any worse than our current crop of subs??

Sell moose are you for real? we need much better pace up top, sharp and mcburnie shouldn't be playing together fact

Moose needs a run in the team now, he looked at it last night.

Yes goals are important, but if you do not concede then the amount of goals needed to gain points is reduced.

Its called maths. We are doing great at one end, & OK at the other, but could do with improvement.

As Werner has signed for a package of £102 million over 5 years you can see what we are up against.

As seen elsewhere, posted by the Leicester fan,Vardy 1million, Mahrez considerably less. It's still possible to bag a bargain, it's not solely about throwing money at it.

Is that his wage or the total package including the transfer fee?

Scoring more goals from strikers HAS to be our main focus next season.

A week after promotion, any football program CW appeared on, he said that we would tweak our 3412 - and so it was a virtual flat 5 in midfield and a defensive 3 that have been more economical when getting forward that we ended up with.

We all have to accept that the objective that CW eluded to of "not getting picked off as we pushed forward" has been 100% achieved, but to the detriment of scoring goals.

For me, we cannot go into next season without changing the forward line in some way and looking to score more, but still maintaining a solid defence.

Robinson will probably go to West Brom - they use him how Preston did and it seems to work for him and it has to be a possibility that Moose could be moved on, although personally i'd like him to stay as he just hasn't looked fit all season. perhaps it was his late signing that counted against his season.

The rumours aren't going away about Dennis from Bruges and improving the squad and first team is still much on the cards of CW and the money men.

It's an area we MUST improve on.

Correct money is not what is always needed to buy quality.Look at Stevens and Fleck and our skipper who cost half a mill.Sometimes it is timing that can get you a decent player when he is nearing the end of his contract just like Fleck who cost nothing. Then look at some of our big money buys and compare. Also the loan market can bring you a quality player like Hendo you just need to get in there at the right time.

I suspect our excellent defensive form this season will not be repeatable next season, particularly if there is no Henderson. Fleck and Lundstram have also done well with goalscoring but you wonder again if that is sustainable.

In which case, the forwards must score more goals.

Sharp has done about as well as could be expected.

Mousset started really well but hasn't scored in ten games or so.

McBurnie's output is disappointing.

McGoldrick is having a historically bad season in terms of goalscoring.

Robinson did not look good enough.

I was really surprised to see both Sharp and McGoldrick get 2 year deals. I hope there is room in the budget for another goalscorer. We need one.

Anyone would think we are in crisis looking at this thread! So what we don't have a 20 goal a season striker? Our team ethic is just that, playing as a team. Each man is as important as the next. All of them contribute.

Mcburnie was playing really well before the lockdown and looked more like his old self when we put the subs on
I wouldn't judge anyone too harshly based on the other night might take. A few games to get up to speed ,we had a similar start to the season and took a while to get into our stride

Hope we do bring in a couple of really good options next season as i Think we need them and the rest of the side doesn't need as much competition

I think consistently over the last couple of years we’ve created few chances, but scored a higher proportion of them. Our game seems to be about creating higher quality chances.
