We now have 5 on the books
Sharp
Hanson
Evans
Lavery
Clarke
All will be decent but I suspect non outstanding in the Championship.
What do people think is that it or will there be incoming or outgoings.
My guess is for one more incoming.
I'd get rid of Clarke , people raving bout him end of season saying if he wasn't injured he'd score 20 . Went he played 18 games without a injury and didn't score, and he only started scoring when the pressure was off and we virtually already won league so he could Jusy enjoy the football. I'd keep Hanson just to bring off bench when we need height. Imo chef won't play too many games anyway he will probably be injury prone that's why I wouldn't have signed him. If I was to bring a striker in I'd go ward because he's proved he can score in a relegation battle side , so even if we are in a battle he should be able to score

Re released him , and Everton have offered him a contract with there under 23's to give him a second chance there and like a 3 rd chance in football. I think they feel some How they are responsible for it
Hmmmm, you mean a bit like us and Ched? Don't get me wrong, I am glad he is at the Lane and really want him and Sharpy to blast all and sundry off the park but, I do think we bought him to be seen as helping his rehabilitation into the football world.

We have to show some intent and sign a top class forward if we want to compete. I worry none of the current bunch will get too many goals.

Yeah , I guess but it's worse for us given Baxter only had 18 months off , and Evans had a good 3 plus years not playing football , personally I think we bought him just based on one glory season and they didn't take in to mind , his poor championship record with us.

Gregory will not sign, we are looking for youth and pace.

Hope you're right. He might be a Blade and decent player but I'd hope we'd be looking at a bit better than a player pushing 30 with one season in the Championship to his name.

Especially when we've already got Evans who's far from guaranteed to perform, and are linked with Holmes who's in a similar position to Gregory.

But Baxter had all that time strolling around on the pitch, generally not being arsed. I bet Ched at least did a few sit-ups in his cell.

Someone like Sullay Kaikai on loan?

Possibly. The likes of Danny Ward, Nick Blackman, Sammy Ameobi, Chuba Akpom and Izzy Brown.

But I'd also be happy if we got a good big man like Sam Gallagher and didn't sign anyone like that, and maybe just signed a pacy winger instead.

That said, I'd like both, but it would surely mean offloading Hanson.

Lee Gregory IMO will complete our strike force.

Sincerely hope not from what I've seen of him. He'd cost a lot of money and be no better than what we've got. If we want to boost the attacking options then let's go for some young athletic Prem reserve kid with loads to prove.

On £15k per week, with a Range Rover and an internationally known agent who couldn't even begin to point to Sheffield on a map.

Oh, yes please!

Perfect scenario would be tall lanky rapid lad from a top Chelsea/City/Arsenal on loan but I feel that in order to get one we would have to guarantee First team football and I'm not sure CW will take anyone who comes with pre determine plans to start them

I am not saying that this is the time but we have to look at sometime about trusting and moving up our young guns instead of farming them out and bringing in on loans, the youth from PL teams.

We do look at them...by farming then out to lower league clubs to smooth out the edges and judge then in someone else's first team.

If we want someone young, quick and versatile on loan who's good enough to be 'guaranteed' games then Izzy Brown from Chelsea could be a great option. Been at Rotherham and Huddersfield this season and impressed. Chelsea likely to loan him to the Championship again.

I understand what you're saying. But there has to come a time when we put our faith in our young players rather than the young players of other teams - even if they are PL teams.

I'm more than happy to let CW decide if that is the case or not, to be honest.

We should always look at our academy first but I don't think we currently have any players that are tall with pace and technique and have an eye for goal that could play either wide or central in a front three. If we could loan that type of player, it's something we might consider.
A good loan can give us something we couldn't afford to buy permanently. What we don't want is another Kofie. I'd certainly be perplexed if we bought in a central midfielder without giving Whiteman a chance but I'd assume CW knew what he was doing.

there are too many average or aging strikers amongst our 5 who remain (assuming Done will move out quickly). It is the one position that concerns me as we move up. Look at the expensive 'quality' strikers signed by the pigs and apart from the last 5 games they almost missed the Play-Offs , which would have been a failure given the money they've spent.
Whether we can count Ricky Holmes as a striker , I'm not sure - he certainly had a blinder going forward at the Lane - but you have to think he was trying to impress CW that day.

yes he only turned us from contenders to champions
did nowt

Yes I was there and think it was all he did that match and many others I saw afterwards other than fouling lots and knocking lots over the bar, like when in the clear at Oxford, skyed it, the game turned after he was substituted. He was part of a winning formula so can't knock what happened this season but is one goal every 4 months going to be good enough next season, not so sure. We could do much better.

We were actually top already when he signed!

1 goal in 13 appearances is poor for a striker, but in this team it's pathetic!
He was bought to assist the team by taking defenders away.it worked like a dream. His goal tally means diddly its what he gave the team that counted and it was a lot

Sometimes a forward is there to do all the shielding for others.hes one of the best Ive ever seen at the Lane for unselfish working for others.Id say he was our most influential player in the run in. He only scord one but 50 per cent of the others we scored were due to his work load.

Dominic Solanke from Chelsea would be my #1 target. Season long loan.

Chelsea will have seen over the past few years how invaluable Championship games are. The loans to Vitesse in Holland are great for picking up their 'footballing' skills but they need to play competitively in England before they can be considered ready. We'd have to get in a queue but if we can sell ourselves to Chelsea and explain why we should be the ones to look after him for a year why not?

Tammy Abraham has gazumped him in their ranks by doing just that.

I know he's our messiah but I wonder if Wilder has friends in the game?
I wonder if premiership teams want to help him out or they appreciate our style of football?
Saying that, most premiership managers won't even know their academy lads names let alone what style of football United play.
