I’ve noticed a lot of posters frothing at the mouth for another striker... and I don’t get it?
Sure 18 goals between the 5 strikers we have as things stand isn’t a great return. But I don’t feel like any of them (except Didzy) missed loads of chances, so surely we need to focus more on personnel that can create more chances?
We spent £38 mil on strikers in the last window, so I feel that unless we can shift Robinson for a decent fee I can’t really see us buying a new forward.
What do you lot think?
I think the combined age of three of last season's strikers, Sharp, McGoldrick and Clarke is over 100 years old. Now, there's a clue for you?
Clarke has left now - gone into a care home I think. But that still leaves Sharp and McGoldrick who are, let's face it...in the "Autumn" of their careers.
We then have Mousset - who doesn't seem to know whether he's on this earth or Fuller's Earth. Would you pin your Premier League hopes on him delivering week in, week out, if you were Chris Wilder? Would you?
And of course we've got Oli McBurnie - a child trapped in a man's body. Who, if he stays out of trouble, could make a very good contribution to the team. But he's a one-dimensional player is Oli. He's a blunt instrument - and when he's at his best, as he was towards the end of last season, he's great. Very good at winning the ball in the air and holding up play - but you need a bit more than that in a team. You need a mixture of aerial power, speed, pace, skill. You need different types of strikers.
I don't disagree with your other point though - the problem is not just the strikers, but those providing the ammunition to them - and that's another area where we can and will improve I think, if some of the rumoured signings come true.
But your question is about strikers - and for the reasons I've given, I think it's essential to get one (or two) in.
