Strike Force against Sunderland

An opportunity for Wilder to test a strike partnership, and someone who can play CAM to support them.

I honestly don't see a problem with any pro playing on a Wednesday and a Satdi. Feckin snoflakes.

I used to play Rugby Satdi, Football Sunday and midweek, and I'm an amateur.

I used to play truant 5 days a week, and it nevver did mee enny arm.

Gribbin has just completed a fairly gruelling 67 minutes for the U23s this afts. Jake Young is an U23 regular this season. He was NOT selected today. Stephen Mallon, who is an experienced U23 player, been on loan in Australia. He hasn't featured much for the U23s this season. But, for the record, he also didn't play this afts.

If any, who from the current crop of U23’s do you think deserves a place in the squad on Wednesday?

A tricky choice , as you could make a case for any of them starting the game.

I'd prefer not playing Leon though. What is the point really? He does not have a future at the club, other than if we suffer with a lot of injuries. I'd rather focus on giving those game time who do have a future at the club.

The simple, mathematical answer is none.
a) we have a "some left overs, might be in a shop window" bloated squad from our Championship days. eg Leon Clarke.
b) we have a "signed for the right reasons, but work in progress" bloated squad. eg Kean Bryan
c) we have a "got to build a PL squad, & quickly" bloated squad. eg Ben Osborn
d) and, our best U23 prospects are already on the pathway where they are loaned out to League clubs. eg Rhys Norrington-Davies

That means that the current U23 squad are "very young" & somewhat inexperienced & are developing. None of that should be seen as particularly negative. It's just the point of the cycle we're in. Given our rapid rise to the PL.

Not really bothered about the League Cup, so I’d definitely start Sharp for this one. If we lose, we lose. If we win, we are guaranteed to be thrown out of the competition for playing a very obviously suspended player. Either way we can just focus on the league.

JackSUFC I've been busy extricating myself from the West Midlands & writing two Blogs before Beddy Byes. I always feel I've short changed when I say none (as I did in my earlier answer). It's just the first team squad seems a long way off for those currently playing U23 Football for United. Even for a Cup game. Although maybe they'll have to shift an U23 striker up to the squad for Wednesday. I prefer easier questions like...
Who are the most experienced U23 players we've got at Shirecliffe at the moment? Stephen Mallon & Reece York. Although Mallon has already had one loan spell in Australia. I'd expect they're looking to send him on another loan if/when they can.
Or
Forget whether they're close to the first team squad at the moment, any you like the look of? Harry Boyes, full of energy, free flowing, good on the ball, always looking to make something happen.

How close is the ex Manu striker surely perfect game for him

There's no Besic on that either. Clarke not having a number is irrelevant, if he's named in a matchday squad he'll be given one, just like any numberless youth teamer ever or Brayford on his way out a few years back
Obviously for a "youth teamer", but i thought Leon was named from the off?

Ta. Like you and others have said before, our quick rise to the PL has left the progression from the academy to first team even more difficult. It’s just how it is. But at least we’ve got the likes of RND and Slater are able to go out on loan to EFL teams.

I’d love it if we constantly had lads from the academy breaking through and our record is better than a lot of clubs, but I know we’re not going to have a David Brooks every season.

I’d start McGoldrick if fit. The lad needs a goal and against lower league opposition he might get more chances to make his mark. He obviously needs to build his confidence up in front of goal. Think I’d go with either McBurnie or Robinson along side him.
Nowt wrong with his confidence he’s getting chances getting in position for chances take Mousset out of that no one else is getting in the same positions or putting the other levels of work in
They will come he will score

Let us know when you're planning to come good nstead of always having your hate figure and talking 💩
There you go with the hate word again.

It reveals much, if you care to go in to a bit of psycho analysis !

For anybody declaring Sharp in the line up and getting upset about being told about his ban, an internet search soon puts that to bed.

McGoldrick won’t be fit, McBurnie is carrying a knock from the warm up on Saturday

Robinson needs to get his confidence up and Moose deserves a start. Clarke on the bench. Morrison in behind.

If Moussett is now fully game fit then I'd save him for Liverpool, if he's not, then give him the first 45 then bring him off, partnered by Leon. I'd give Morrison, Luke Freeman, Kieran Freeman & Osborn a run out as well, may as well keep them match fit
